New to the BB

I will be gm'ing my first bb soon. I am confused about a few things. As far as moving outside of combat, do the pc's just go where they want and do what they want and when they want as long as what they are doing is available to them? Such as going into a new room, if player 1 wants to use detect magic, can they do it from the begginning of the room, then move some more and do it again?

Pretty much. Notionally they move around in rounds, 30' (or whatever) at a time, but when they're not interacting with anyone else it really doesn't matter at all. Detect magic is a 0-level spell for anyone who would actually want to cast it, so yes, your player can cast it all he likes, over and over, all day long.

Just be sure to give everyone a chance to do something out of combat. They don't have to, but it's nice to have a "turn". Some players can start doing something and completely forget there is anyone else in the group or start directing the other players around as if they were their minions. That's when the GM needs to step in and give everyone a chance.
