Can an alternate class, like the ninja, take a rogue archetype?


Yes, as long as the abilities that get replaced exist for the ninja too.


That would be my take on it as well but I can see arguments that say otherwise. As a GM I wouldn't have a problem with it. Curious as to how others would handle it as well.


My personal take is: "Sure, why not?"

Reading UC, it says that the alternate classes act exactly as a base class, except they can't take levels in the class they were spawned from.

A ninja is a rogue, a samurai is a cavalier, and a antipaladin is a paladin. Every time a developer has discussed these alternate classes, they have confirmed it.
