Today we're introducing favorites for messageboard posts. They're basically an internal bookmarking system, so you can refer back to posts you want to be able to find later. Favorites are public—everybody can see what you've favorited, and can see who's favorited a post.

To favorite a post, click the "+" beneath the reply link. You can remove your favorite at any time. We show a count of how many people have favorited a post next to the "+", and if you click that text, you can see who favorited the post.

There is a new "favorites" tab on your user profile page, which shows all the posts you've favorited. There's also a tab to show you which of your posts have been favorited, including those you may have posted under aliases.

A note about the terminology: We've specifically selected "favorites" rather than "+1" or "like". Anybody can favorite a post for any reason, not just agreement with the sentiment expressed or how it was said.

The display on the "favorited by others" tab is messed up right now. We'll fix it as soon as possible.

Wow Gary, you're so popular. I want to be like you.

I haz all the favorites!

OK, the "favorited by others" tab should be fixed.

It looks like "show favorites for this post" is probably broken for archived threads. This will be fixed tomorrow.

Liberty's Edge

Edit: What is the "sessions" tab about?

Those are for Pathfinder Society games. :)

You see the sessions tab on your own page if you are a Pathfinder Society member. It displays your reported sessions played.

Edit: Ninja'd by the cookies queen!

Thanks, Paizonians!

Awesome work as usual PMG, I will have to buy you a drink next weekend.

Can you un-favorite something?

I was, uh, usability testing when I intentionally screwed up by favoriting my own post instead of clicking the link to see who favorited it. Completely on purpose. That will be $580.00.

Nevermind, found it.

For anyone else looking for it, it's on your profile page.

Suggestion, though: a favorited post ought to replace the "+" with a "-" for easy correction if you accidentally favorite something.

It does, I swear. Are you not seeing it do that?

It does indeed.

How did I miss that, even I was suggesting it?

The Power of Stupid User, that's how.

(edited, rephrased)
Will the function be suspended (or at least display of the number of people who favourited the first entry on a thread be temporarily blocked) on RPGsuperstar forums with regard to entries currently being voted on in a round of RPGSuperstar?
It's on my mind here as to whether the ability of people to 'favourite' actual Round 2+ entries currently under the vote could influence the result in some way in tight situations? I know Paizo allows exit poll threads, but I'm in some doubt how closely comparable those are with a situation where posters could anonymously favourite an actual entry on a thread with just a mouse-click?
Anyway, I'm probably worrying about nothing, but I thought I'd raise it now, well ahead of RPGSuperstar 2012 rolling around...

Further Edit:
Umm, I can favourite my own posts???

Paizo Employee Senior Software Developer

Dunno about rpg superhero, that's far enough off that I'm not going to worry about it just yet. This rewrite of the message boards code means we have to redo a bunch of that code anyway.

Yes, you can favorite yourself. I'm on the fence about making it more obvious that someone's done that.

I think this is fixed. Also, the "favorited by others" tab is less stupid now.

Now with 75% less stupid!

I don't suppose you could figure out a way to favorite an entire thread? So when we go to the thread it goes to the last post made?

A nifty alternative would be if favorite threads collected into their own collapsable section like the Advice, General Discussion, Off-topic, etc. are grouped.
