Not to my knowledge. The only things ever advertised are the X-year contracts, and that's all they discuss when you speak to them in a store.

I imagine if they do offer some sort of prepaid service, it's probably very bare-bones, very no-frills, limited minutes and limited texting, so they can convince you to either jump to the contract to get all the bells and whistles, or charge you extra when you go over the arbitrarily-low limits.

I actually use my phone extremely rarely for actual calling, doing most of my communication in texts or over Skype, and I wouldn't be surprised at all to hear that prepaid smartphone usage had an even lower data limit than my current contract (2 GB/month before they start charging extra). And that's not even getting into putting a limit on texts each month (currently have unlimited).

So yeah. The entire business is geared very strongly toward getting you on a contract. Add in what Drejk said, that the salesman/woman has no motivation to let you get away with anything but signing a contract and getting him/her a commission for the sale, and it just simply never comes up, if it's even an option at all.

Mornin', FaWTLpods!

My D&D game is tomorrow. Thank you, TL and lyn, for the advice!

I'll try to post kind of a liveblog, blow-by-blow of the game if you guys are interested.

In other news, I've finally dragged some of my friends to the D&D encounters session at our local friendly gaming and coffee shop. Kickstarter continues to tantalize me, as always, with amazing games like Fellowship and Masks that I don't have the money to back.

Somehow, my joker player has evolved into a sophisticated roleplayer. I'm so happy for him! He went from crude jokes to in-depth characters overnight, it seems.

Didn't matter. He was still in pull-ups at 3.

Then one day he just told us, "Oh, I've decided I'm going to use the toilet from now on."

Never another accident.

Yay Synos game time has come again!

Unfortunately all the ones on the list I wanted, I think I already have =) Your generosity is still greatly appreciated! Hopefully there'll be someone here who wants some of these and doesn't have them yet =D

Seriously people, some of these are great games (even if they're not for me, for example I tend to avoid horror and shooters), and Synos offers them completely free, no strings attached, all you need is a Steam account. I highly advise you take him up on the offer =)

As, sure, they're just sittin' there doing nothing. Might as well share them with people who will enjoy them. Besides, I get a kick out of it when I see someone playing one of them down the line. :)

If you missed the link before, it's kept in my profile now, so everyone should feel free to take a look and claim what you like. There's a few additions I haven't had the time to update the online list with, but no really big names in there.

Damn. That almost makes me feel bad about how good my package is. Free calls to anyone on the same network, free texts to any network, and unlimited data for €20 a month. I saw the internet dealie was bad a few pages back, but I didn't expect the phone deals to be so bad too.

Glad to! We went through it once and will do so again. One thing we never did, but was recommended, was putting Cheerios in the toilet: for boys, it could be a "fun game" to aim at them and try to hit them. We've got two boys, but I could never bring myself to actually throw the food that they eat into the toilet.

Incidentally, my eldest is yelling at me about how he's going poopy right now as I type this. I'm being very well informed.

Edit: If you like Demigod, btw, you should consider giving other MOBA's a try. My friends and I regularly play DotA 2 which, while it has a steep learning curve, can be very enjoyable. Heroes of Newerth (HoN) and League of Legends (LoL) are two other popular ones, and I believe they're all free to play.

Hah! I only ever did it single player. Makes sense the lifespan would be shorter. I did really enjoy it, while I played it, though. Yes... I tend to "do it wrong" with most games.

(It's effectively a very contrived version of Capture the Flag; pretty fun, though.)

SMITE is also a good MOBA. Great for beginners who are more used to action RPGs than isometric ones.

But I just learned how to draw it! And it's fine art! Fine. Art.

We don't get much of that in here parts, even when a famous artist donates a sculpture for in front of the football stadium it looks like a diseased penis, and so many people have it!

Fine, I'll change:-(

Isn't that what most "famous artists" donate to places?

I just thought it was, "Ah, crap! I looks like a warped sexual organ and/or boring everyday uninteresting object! I'll donate it, get a good tax break, and make good will with the locals!"

This is not a knock on artists, by the way. They need whatever help they can get. This just seems to be the typical "donated"... thing, whatever it is, by whomever it is.

Actually yes, I would have a hard time drawing Order of the Stick

also drawing highly stylized anime and western cartoons.

it's like trying to write in someone else's handwriting. Even Ogata, who draws Death Note with a similar level of realism to myself, stylizes things in different ways, so if I were to emulate that style I would have to contradict my own habits.

Or emulating the style of Jack Kirby or John Romita, come to think of it. (I don't read a lot of western comics)

Oh, don't get me started. During my time at U.C. Davis they installed the infamous eggheads. To the tune of around $50,000. Each.

Yes, an artist got the idea to make a bunch of egg-shaped heads with varying facial expressions.

And that idea was worth $50,000. Per. Egg.

I always feel the world would be a far more reasonable place if, instead of an unlimited budget of other people's money, sales reps, corporate decorators, and so forth were required to pay for things out of their own salaries. Maybe increase the salary by $20k-$50k (or whatever) and say, "You need to entertain this many clients," or, "You need to add artwork to this many buildings," but the sheer ludicrosity of what such people pay for "fine wine" or "art" appalls me.

(The eggheads don't bother me. They creep NobodysWife out.)

EDIT: And I mean, at least most artists are grossly underpaid, so one big windfall may be all an artist can expect in a lifetime of work. When my first tech company was going under, the sales reps held a 3-day $11 million 'corporate retreat' complete with exotic petting zoo (how many people can honestly say they've petted a giraffe?) while engineering was seeing 2/3 of its work force laid off. Spend 110 people's annual salaries on a 3-day jig as they are laid off? Why not? It's not OUR money!

wow.

In my experience, which is limited, as I learned early on that artist are their own, weird people who don't often socialize well with non artists, high art is its own world where money tends to materialize out of nowhere and go into pockets unknown. It is very much like mental health/anything in psychology that way.

They would probably let you put up a statue next to it, Fremont is the hippiest of hippy neighborhoods in Seattle, every summer they have a summer solstice parade where everyone gets naked puts on body paint and ride their bikes, I was pretty lit the first time I saw it in person, and a little confused.
