Intersection or Player space the center of a channel?

So, in case the title doesn't explain clearly enough

Let's say you have cleric that channels. Does he pick an intersection he touches as the center of his channeling burst? Or does the burst extend in 30' on all sides from the edge of the space the channeler occupies?

Depends on the campaign. If you adhere strictly to a grid, the center of the channeling should be the center of the cleric's square, which leads to interesting ideas as to what happens to people whose squares are half in, half out of the burst area.

On the flip side, if you play without a battlemat, it's simply a matter of DM and player agreement:
DM: "You might miss Fred."
Player: "Well, I specifically want to get everyone in."
DM: "Okay, Fred crowds a bit closer and you're okay there."

If channel energy was a spell you'd have to pick an intersection, because it targets an area.

It's probably best to assume it functions according to those rules.

Edit: wait a minute. Channeling causes a burst, which is defined to target a grid intersection.

So channeling would necessarily be less effective for large or huge clerics, because more of their channeling burst is "used" by their large body size in one direction of the burst, though it still extends 30' away from them on the side the channel is actually centered on. But they can change how far it extends from their body by changing the origin intersection at will to avoid healing enemies...correct?

(yes, this is assuming a battlemap is used)

Yes, that's right.

If you want to have an explanation for that in game, think of it as channeling originating from your (un)holy symbol.

All right. I still think that's weird, and it's not at all how I've been doing it, but if that's the consensus, I'll need to houserule it.

Thanks!
