Okay, the story is that I haven't worked out in almost 15 years, in any serious capacity. Part of it is because of shin splints, and part of it is that I have just been lazy about it. Anyway, I have to be able to pass a physical fitness test in about 2 and a half weeks, so I decided to go out and try my best to get into shape. Anyway, I guess all the walking I have been doing has started to pay off, because I had no problems with the shin splints. Now I just need to get my endurance up to where it used to be. Hopefully two and a half weeks will be enough.

If you have a place to swim, then I encourage you to do so. I've often heard it is one of the best ways to get in shape, because you use a lot of different muscles.

I just started working out again quite literally a week ago. The searing agony in my chest was no joke, and it took a massage in addition to extra chest presses(or whatever it is I do) to make the pain stop. It feels good to work out again, even with my bad knee. I say start working out everything other than the knee- free weights for arms and chest are a good start- and a lot of exercises that require you to be on your back(in a non-perverted way). Start with small amounts of realistic sets that will still produce results(i.e. 3 sets of twenty) on an alternating day basis.

I'm not really worried about things like push ups and sit ups. I can handle that pretty well. It is the running portion of the test that I'm concerned about.

When I was dealing with running as a part of martial arts, I discovered that for me, running in place while bringing my knees up as high as possible helped out a lot- it put stress and strain on a different part of my foot(and I'm assuming shin) than I was normally accustomed to, so it wasn't as delibitating for me. Maybe it will work for you...?

Good luck with the exercise, David. How much will you have to run for the test? I think with the walking you've been doing, you should be able to build up to 3 miles in time for the test.
I've had shin splints too, and they're unpleasant. My daughter wants to play soccer for school this year (she's in 7th grade), and I am going to run with her to encourage her to run. My current excuse is that I'm waiting for the weather to cool down. :)

My big problem is I had students who enjoyed his music. I would hate for them to think that is how we act in our society. That and I can't imagine that he will attract many new listeners by standing up in public and telling the people who vote for the VMAs that they are idiots.

Congratulations are in order for one of our own people (that and extreme jealousy).

Solnes, what is the job you are applying for?
And speaking of resume's i have a meeting with career services at my school, to update/create a new resume'. My old one is so bad, I am ashamed of having it. That and I haven't really updated it since I got my associates. I have to weed out my past jobs because they were dead end jobs, that I had just to get by during my community college days. I have also heard that they can be brutal when looking over resume's. Stricter judges usually mean higher quality work.
enough ranting, hope you get that job Solnes.
