Is that what you really want to do?

Welcome! Please feel free to introduce yourselves, players not characters. Once everyone has checked in we will begin the AP

Many thanks! I finally get to play Kingmaker! And hopefully the board will finally stabilize!

I am the hero of the little guy, whenever I can be because I am one. Diviner 'cause I want to know everything.

I plan to focus on rogue if I survive for a couple of levels and eventually work up to the Arcane Trickster PrC. I hope that works out for this game. We will see, right?

Hello everyone and thank you for choosing me!

I'll be playing a ranger, serving as the group's ranged damage dealer and as a backup melee character.

I also plan to focus mostly on skills that will help us get along in the wilderness.

May the dice rolls be in our favor!

Christ above, this site, huh? But yes, huge thanks for the invite, Relic. Stoked about finally trying Kingmaker.

Also looking forward to reading all the characters' bios, but a cursory glance tells me that the whole party consists of dudes, yes? With Relic's blessing I'm changing Sigmar Darastrix into Sigga Darastrix, simply to avoid a complete sausage fest. Adds a little colour to the party.

So! Sigga is the melee barbarian/soon to be sorcerer/soon to be Dragon Disciple. Not sure if she'll succeed in any of those roles, but we'll just have to see, won't we? I finished up her profile and added an 'appearance' section per Relic's original recruitment request and for those who like to reference these things in their posts. Also threw in an equipment list. Looking forward to playing with you all.

Hi guys!

Looking forward to the game.

*burp*

GM: Even if you aren't ready to start gameplay yet, opening a gameplay thread will allow us to dot in and then we will be able to see the game on our campaign page.

Yay! The board is back up, again....

Sorry Relic. Re-read your request and realized I didn't do as requested. "Introduce yourselves, players not characters"

So, I'm Randy Gibson from Raleigh NC. Retired Marine and employed doing IT support for the US Postal Service. Been playing D&D since 1977 but pretty new to this board. PBP on d20WorldOfGreyhawk.Yuku.com until it died/transitioned to Tap-A-Talk, then died again. (Post mortem still pending as the board is in use by a couple people. I post pictures there and link them to the Gauntlet game I'm running here.)

I generally haunt the couple of threads where I do play so I should have no problem keeping up my end on this one. If something does happen and I have to be away for more than a few hours I will post details as I know them.

And finally, If anyone feels I am doing something wrong but doesn't want to post it here for everyone, my personal email address is randall.gibson@rgibson.org.

And if this is more than I was supposed to post, sorry but I'm thrilled to finally get into a Kingmaker game

As far as real-world introductions go...

My real name is Pete and I was first introduced to D&D in around 1978, when I was eight. Fell in love with the concept and that never wore off.

Yeah, that means I'm another old guy. But I have found that roleplaying improves with age. :)

I live in Toronto, Canada (which is EST). I work nights at a hotel, and I have a fair bit of downtime there, so most of my posts will be in that time frame (i.e. after midnight). I often am unable to post on weekends.

I've been PbP'ing for almost 4 years now. I love the format as it allows a lot of things that are difficult in F2F games, though I GM a F2F game and play in another.

Willing to exchange emails with people by PM if folks want, but I'm not willing to post my email address openly because it will be copied by bots.

Is that what you really want to do?

Welcome!! I am excited to begin this journey with you. My name is Clint and I have been playing D&D since 3.5 and converted to Pathfinder in the beta. I haven’t been playing as long as Pete, but I have been playing awhile.

I started doing PBP about a year ago and was becoming burnt out due to games going away. I then decided to start DMing PBP. I am able to post between 2-3 times a day, but that does not mean this is expected of everyone. The minimum that is recommended is 1. If for some reason you are not able to post for a few days please reach out and give us a heads up.

I am getting the write out going for the first post and will have that on here shortly. Still waiting for one more character to post. Lordar.

Sigmar can become Sigga that is not a problem.

Not super comfortable sharing too many real-world details about myself on an open forum, but I can say that I'm relatively new to these boards. Bit a late bloomer with tabletop gaming in general, really; I've been playing PF a paltry five-odd years which doesn't feel like much compared to what's been shared here.

I can say that I really like the PbP format though, as it gives a far greater focus on the individual PC than the average face-to-face session. When taken into this written, narrative format, the game allows for more character moments and a better look at every PCs' thoughts and motivations. It makes for good roleplaying which is why I'm here.

On that note, I sometimes write overly long, meandering prose-ridden posts about feelings and other bull. Apologies in advance for that. Also I'm pretty sure my time-zone is not at all neighboring your own, so expect posts at odd times of the day.

Male Human Ranger 2 | HP: 20/20 | AC: 19 (21 w/ shield) | Init: +4 | Fort: +5, Ref: +7, Will: +2 | CMB: +4, CMD: 19 | Attacks: Rapier (+6 hit, 1d6+2 damage) , MWK Longbow (+7 hit, 1d8 + 2 damage) | Perception: +8

My real name is Jake, and that's about all I'm comfortable sharing with internet strangers. I've been playing pathfinder for about 6 years, mostly IRL. I have some experience with PBP, but this is the first time I'm doing one on these boards, so bear with me while I get adjusted to it.

I should be able to post once or twice a day, and I will of course let you know if I'm not going to be available for a while.

Understood about people's privacy concerns. Guess I'm just not as concerned for various reasons. I do respect all of your choices though.

Game on Jake, Clint, Pete and Sigga! (and Lordar?)

Is that what you really want to do?

I sent Lordar a message yesterday. I am going to give it another day(ish) and see how it pans out. With the boards being off and on as it been it could be that they haven’t checked since they came back up.

Feel free to jump on the gameplay thread and get to know eachother in game.

As I’ve said before, I am excited to run this game for this group. Let’s roll some dice!

I'm so sorry. I'm a noob in PbP and Paizo forums.

I'm from Madrid, Spain. I'm computers engeneer and I'll play a Paladin of Abadar, focused in Diplomacy and Social skills, and as a secondary fighter/healer (too much 'secondary' things, but... here I go!).

@Lordar your Detect Evil is a (SP) Spell like ability. It just happens. There are no verbal or any gestures you would it. No one would know that you did it.

Thanks, it's just to clear this, because a master in my group plays it as concentration is clearly visible, so, I prefer to ask.

Ok, now, I have more time to write this.

My real name is Juan Pablo (Juan, or John, if you prefer a short translation).

I've been playing all kinds of rpg since 7 years old, from d&d 1e, to FATE, Pathfinder, 7th sea, Kult, or D&D 5e, but I have played only once by post (Mage), and master ran away at fourth post...
And this is the reason I missed the discussion and game tabs in this forum.

Oh! I play PF ACG as well, my group loves it.

So, let's pleasure Abadar and bring law and commerce to this game! ;)

Spell-like abilities do provoke attacks of opportunity, so presumably there is some kind of visible effect, even if it is that the character is concentrating somehow instead of paying attention to combat.

Brother Belchfast wrote:

Really? I figured it wouldn’t because there is no verbal, somatic, it doesn’t require material components, and it also does need a focus.

I actually never knew this, being a SP my playgroup always played it just as the spell. So we always played it that the person/monster knew you were casting a spell on it. But someone on the boards showed me the error of my ways. Completely changed how I viewed SP and they instantly became even better to me.

SRD Magic Section:
Usually, a spell-like ability works just like the spell of that name. A spell-like ability has no verbal, somatic, or material component, nor does it require a focus. The user activates it mentally. Armor never affects a spell-like ability’s use, even if the ability resembles an arcane spell with a somatic component.

Hmm.... I've always played it as the character had to focus/unfocus their vision to 'see' an aura. So it might be noticed, or might not, and an inexperienced person probably wouldn't know what you were doing. They'd probably just think you were bored. (The 'glazed eyes' look!) Are you detecting evil or just thinking really deep thoughts?

Female Human Barbie 1 | HP 14/14 | AC 15/11/14 | CMB+4 CMD 15 | F+3 R+1 W+3 | Init +1 | Perc +0 | Rage 5/5

See, this is why I like PbPs. Because here you have to make all this rules malarkey make sense in a living, breathing world. Doing an AoO simply because the rules say you can is all fine and good, but actually describing how the paladin's eyes momentarily turn a shade of gold and how your character knows he can take advantage of the holy warrior's distraction due to this... That's the good sh*t, right there. That's what happens when the game takes place in written language. Love it.

Is that what you really want to do?

@Belchfast once you have a chance head on over to the gameplay section and we can then get this show on the road.

Is that what you really want to do?

Good morning! Hope all is well. I am glad that the servers are back up and we are able to continue. I know we are still waiting for Brother Belchfast to check in on the gameplay, but we can continue on.

One thing that we will be doing as part of the Kingmaker AP is building an kingdom. Hopefully this is no spoiler, it was talked about in the Player’s Guide. I am attaching a link here and in the game info for the Kingdom Building Rules that we will eventually need. I would like all of us to be aware of hope the system works once we get to that point. We have plenty of time, so do not feel like you need to rush and read it all this weekend.

Hopefully Brother Belchfast joins us, but I am looking forward to the game. Have fun!

At this point, perhaps, as paladin of Abadar, could I know what could be the reason for the new taxes, and if the new taxes are 'legal'? I mean, if they are not destructive for commerce?
So, Oleg pays his taxes to which side? And I know we are near a civil war...

Is that what you really want to do?

@Lordar, those are great questions to ask. Over in the gameplay section you should give me a knowledge local check, or maybe ask Oleg.

I know you are new to the forums so here is how you do a dice roll on the forum.

{dice=K-Local or Int}1d20+0{/dice}

Except instead of { } use [ ]

Where it says +0, that is where you put your K-Local or Int modifier.

The dice checks can be a little tricky at first, but we are here to help you out along the way.

Awesome! Also, if there is anything that I could tweak to make things better for you all please don’t hesitate to reach out to me either here on the discussion page, or if you would prefer you could always send me a PM.

I’ve been having fun.

A tactical note about Belchfast:

Before the bandits walk through the gate I can cast bless.

Once combat begins the most effective use of my abilities would be to grant a bit of luck to others in combat. This allows you to roll every d20 you roll in one round twice, and take the better result. So it's really great for people who have lots of attacks.

My actual attacks are mediocre but not bad for a secondary combatant. But it's probably much better to make sure that Sigga hits with her greatsword for 2d6+7 than me attacking for 1d6+2.

Male Human Paladin 1 | HP 12/12 | AC19/FF10/T10 | F+4 R+0 W+2(*) | Init+4 | S+2 D0 C+2 I0 W0 CH+3 | Melee+3 (scimitar:1d6+2/ dagger:1d4+2) | Know(Nob/Rel)+4, Perception+0, SMotive+4

AFAIK, our best combatants are Sigga and Halden, I'll support her in close combat to make flanking more difficult (provided they are more than 3), and Bertram can use magic at distance. Do we need someone to protect them from being engaged in close combat?
If you can finish one or two with ranged weapons/spells, it would be perfect.

Female Human Barbie 1 | HP 14/14 | AC 15/11/14 | CMB+4 CMD 15 | F+3 R+1 W+3 | Init +1 | Perc +0 | Rage 5/5

Bit of Luck is indeed great, especially if the archers in the group get Rapid Shot. Could also be good for Sigga's multiple claw attacks at lv.2, but the problem is of course it being a touch effect, requiring Belchfast to get up close and personal in combat himself. Then again, you have the HP for it.

But I wanted to go over the battle plan OOC just so everyone is on board and nothing is misunderstood. Using this as our map, Bertrand and Halden hide up on the wall-walk near the gate and rain pointy death on the bandits at Oleg's command. At the same time Lordar, Belchfast and Sigga come out of hiding and engage in melee. Lordar, do you want to hide in the bunk house per Belchfast's suggestion? That way you could put yourself between Oleg and the bandits as he retreats to his own quarters (assuming he does retreat in that direction, of course).

We should make sure to leave the doors to the bunk house and the stable open too, to make the most out of the surprise round. Nothing worse than blowing a perfectly good surprise round on something as inane as opening a door... I'm hoping to get a shot in with Sigga's sling before going melee.

Male Human Paladin 1 | HP 12/12 | AC19/FF10/T10 | F+4 R+0 W+2(*) | Init+4 | S+2 D0 C+2 I0 W0 CH+3 | Melee+3 (scimitar:1d6+2/ dagger:1d4+2) | Know(Nob/Rel)+4, Perception+0, SMotive+4

It's perfect for me. I'm in.

I'd suggest to block some exits of the market yard, to limit some flee ways.

Male Human Ranger 2 | HP: 20/20 | AC: 19 (21 w/ shield) | Init: +4 | Fort: +5, Ref: +7, Will: +2 | CMB: +4, CMD: 19 | Attacks: Rapier (+6 hit, 1d6+2 damage) , MWK Longbow (+7 hit, 1d8 + 2 damage) | Perception: +8

Sounds like we have a plan. I have the rapid shot feat as well as favored enemy human, so I should be able to hit them pretty hard with arrows. I don't yet have precise shot though, so I will focus on any enemies that stay out of the melee.

Cleric 1 | HP 14/14 | AC 14/8/14 CMD 11 (15 vs. Bull Rush & Trip) | F +6 R -1 W +5 | Init -2 Per +4 S.M. +3 | STR +2 DEX -2 CON +3 INT +0 WIS +3 CHA +0 | Diplomacy +4, Heal +9, ACP -5 | Melee +2, Rapier 1d6+2 (18-20), Warhammer/Battleaxe 1d8+2 (x3), CMB +2

I'm happy with the plan overall.

I have enough HP to soak a few hits so I don't mind getting into melee range.

Is that what you really want to do?

Ambush is happening, everyone will get to do their action. One guy is by Oleg near the table, the remaining group is by the cart with their horses loading everything up. The dogs are wandering around.

Once everyone has gone I will roll initiative and get everything going from there.

We can do a few things with loot. You all can split up the loot as you’d like, or I can make a spreadsheet with everything that is on it. Up to you all.

A sheet open for edit would probably be the better option. That way everyone can take what they need/are assigned and can update the loot themselves, so the list remains current.

The open sheet sounds like a good option

Is that what you really want to do?

Sounds good. It looks like everyone has snagged what they want from this loot collection and the rest Oleg will be selling off. Maybe to help cover expenses/recoup what was stolen.

All 5 of you get 15 gold, 2 trail rations, and also everyone gained a horse with a bit & bridle, riding saddle, and saddle bags. The remaining horse Oleg will keep at his stable for general use.
Halden snagged the Composite Longbow mighty +2
Lordar snagged the amulet
Bertrand snagged the alchemist fire.

If anyone else wants anything from the list here, please write it down on your character sheet.

Yes, anytime you gain new items or use items feel free to update your sheet and the header if it is needed. Also, during combat if you take damage you can update your header then too.

Just checking. Since Lordar's mother was a cleric of Erastil he should recognize the symbol. Is the pendant a holy symbol of Erastil?

For the record, identifying the symbol of a major core religion would probably be a DC 10 check (which Lordar made). It's kind of like identifying a cross or a star of David.
