Sanctified Slayer's Slayer Talent into Ranger Combat Style help.

Rules Questions

My Sanctified Slayer turned level 8 recently, and I'm having difficulty understanding whether I can immediately take the second tier of the Ranger Combat Styles:

Ranger Combat Style (Ex): The slayer selects a ranger combat style (such as archery or two-weapon combat) and gains a combat feat from the first feat list of that style. He can choose feats from his selected combat style, even if he does not have the normal prerequisites. At 6th level, he may select this talent again and add the 6th-level ranger combat feats from his chosen style to the list. At 10th level, he may select this talent again and add the 10th-level ranger combat feats from his chosen style to the list.

I might be reading too much into this, but the "again" in the Slayer Talent trips me up. One interpretation is that since I'm above level 6, I can immediately pick the 6+ feats, but on the other hand, the "again" might imply that I need to pick one from the basic list first.

I was thinking of picking Furious Focus, mainly because I'm wielding a twohander and I already have Power Attack, but if anyone can sell me on any other Talent, I'm all ears. For what it's worth, [here](https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B9aNmFA2ZlBpYTJjNkhOQ29MNms/view?usp=shar ing) is a link to my sheet (slightly outdated, need to update).

EDIT: Don't know why the link fails. Remove the space in "sharing" and it should work. Can't edit it out, for some reason.

the same question occurs, when building a standard slayer. Are you allowed to pick Ranger combat feats at lvl 4 & 8?

Since the first talent only gives you the first combat feat list it is pretty clear that you can’t choose a feat from the second feat list. The second time you choose the feat it opens up the second list, and the third time it opens up the third list. It also clearly states that level requirements to choose the feat a second and third time.

So the first time you pick up the talent you gain a feat from the first list of your chosen combat style. Once you have at least 6 levels of slayer you can choose the talent again and pick from either the first or second list of combat feats. At 10 levels or above of slayer you can pick the talent a third time gaining any feat from any of the lists of the combat style.

The again means you have to have the talent before picking it a second time.

Yeah, the talent is a bit badly worded, but far from the worst thing in the ACG.

You can take it up to 3 times. Just once before 6th level, up to twice at 6th level and up to 3 times at 10th level. The rules with prerequisites is that a 7th level character is also counted as any level under that. For instance, a 7th level fighter fighter can still take weapon specialization, even though its prerequisite is 4th level.

To get access to the 6th level list you have to have taken the talent once. To get access to the 10th level list you have to have taken the talent 2 previous times.

Now the really interesting thing is what happens when you use retraining rules. In theory, you could at level 6 take the talent again and then use retraining to switch your pre-6 talent out for a post-6 version.

Hmm, thanks for that. I really don't see any combat feat I'd want for the character, so that either leaves me with taking a different talent, or retraining Power Attack into something else, then taking PA from the feat list, which is clunky.

Or I'll just take Ranged Weapons and take Precise Shot. Don't have a ranged weapon yet, and this makes me a decent switch-hitter, without needing to waste feats on PBS.

Making sure you are aware of the Faithful Combat styles. They aren't usually the best option, but maybe it has what you are looking for.

The forum software auto breaks links that are typed out. I don't remember their reasoning for this. Instead use the link formatting as I did when editing your post above and it will make the link. There is a button below with "show" in it right next to How to format your text. That opens up a list of special formatting for the site, including spoilers and links for urls.

TL;DR linkified.

EDIT: edited for spelling and focus

I figured out what's wrong. I used Reddit formatting instead of Paizo formatting. I've been juggling three different forum formattings, I get things mixed up every once in a while. >_>
