Unlock a New Kind of Mythic Power!

Sure, your character’s mythic path tells you about the kinds of abilities in which he specializes, and perhaps even gives some clue as to his ultimate mythic destiny, but it doesn’t say anything about where he came from, and what made him mythic in the first place. For that, you can turn to a mythic heritage. This new aspect of mythic characters allows for further customization of your mythic character. A mythic character can choose a mythic heritage in addition to his or her mythic path, and doing so grants him access to a number of unique abilities that are designed to reflect the flavor of his heritage, while also being of value to characters of every mythic path.

This installment explores the demonic heritage, and characters whose mythic power comes from demons, the abyss, or similar sources of evil and chaos. Whether your ancestor was a demon prince, your powers come from a profane ritual that you were exposed to as a child, or you’re simply tainted in some way by the foul presence of the abyss, this mythic heritage allows you to tap into that dark power. The book includes 17 new mythic abilities, all of which are part of the demonic mythic heritage. Summon mythic demons to aid you in combat, wield a balor’s flaming whip, tempt mortals with promises of power, and render yourself immune to anything that would target your black and shriveled soul. This is the power of the abyss, and it can be yours to command.

The Mythic Mastery series of products builds and expands on the rules for mythic characters introduced in Mythic Adventures. Each Mythic Mastery provides new content and rules for mythic games, with a focus on a single theme or area of play. While some of the content provided in Mythic Mastery products requires the use of mythic characters and a mythic adventure, others, such as those focused on exploring mythic monsters, can be used in games of every sort.

Surprised this had not been done already

The subset of rules presented in this supplement is not only extremely intuitive but, for me at least, necessary. The concept is simple, to somehow link the source of your mythic power to what abilities are available to you as mythic tiers are gained. It does in fact makes sense, for example, that a ranged combatant powered by the demon lord Shax has some abilities available to him that a ranged combatant who drank ambrosia does not. Basically what a character gets is an extra list of abilities to choose from whenever he or she gains a new path ability.

In this apparently first installment they deal specifically with demonic heritage, and i have to say that the abilities presented perfectly represent what it would be to be powered by the abyss itself. Personal favorites include being able to grant weekly wishes to mortals, conjuring fiery whips, and even summoning powerful yet lesser demons to aid you.

I cannot recommend this enough and would love to see more heritages as soon as possible.

I have to bumping this for no other reason than how much I loved it and how badly I want more heritages to be developed.

We're glad to hear that you liked it! Thanks for taking the time to say so.

You'll hopefully be happy to hear that we're currently working on another mythic heritage right this minute, the draconic heritage, which we expect to have available some time in March.

Oh yeah? How many pages the PDF have? Any more details you can divulge? Sounds interesting.

I guess I need to write better reviews XD

The PDF is 7 pages long, 3 of them dedicated to 17 new path abilities available to characters who have the proper heritage. There are also very simple rules for the concept itself.

The best testimonial I can give is how one of my players was trying to become a demon lord by the end of Wrath of the Righteous. Now he can pick these as mythic path abilities to practically become a nascent demon lord, doing things such as summoning mythic balors to fight for him, granting mortals wishes, making all his evil or chaotic spells mythic, and even gaining the demon subtype (and all the benefits that come with it).

Hope this helps

I was hoping for more of a celestial thing (as a couple of players are trying to become empireal lords XD), but I will most likely purchase the draconic one anyway as I believe this is a concept that should have been part of the mythic system in the first place.

Sounds very nice.

And one of your players want to be a demon lord? Before this came along, what was his plan?
I do know in H4 Throne of Bloodstone that any PC that keeps the Wand of Orcus will transformed into a demon lord and set up his or her own rule on an empty layer of the Abyss.
It would also nice if someone have an alternate setting where the players play demon lords.

Before we were discussing exchanging some path abiities and feats for some of the basic treats of being a demon lord (the immortality granted by beng tier 10 does help along with the Divine Souce universal path ability). This books makes it so much easier. Now I will have to use it as a a basis for similar abilities ntended fo characters who want to start their ascension into the ranks of the empieal lords.

I know it's been a while, but anyone who's still interested in seeing a more heavenly sort of heritage might want to check out Mythic Mastery: Angelic Heritage.
