True Courage Shines Brightest in the Dark!

The Cult of the Whispering Way weaves a wide-ranging conspiracy throughout the horror-tinged lands of Ustalav aimed at freeing the Lich King Tar-Baphon, better known as the Whispering Tyrant, from his eternal prison in the dungeon of Gallowspire. This 22" x 34" poster pits the iconic paladin Seelah against a horrid servant of the Whispering Tyrant. Folded copies of this poster were sent to game stores everywhere, but we've set aside some rolled copies for sale exclusively right here at paizo.com. Each poster will be shipped rolled in a tube.

This may be coming off as trolling, but I'm actually curious: How come you can sell this in a tube, but not things like the Inner Sea map, especially for such a low price? Are you taking a loss for marketing purposes?

If you mean the Inner Sea Region Poster Map, the main reason those aren't folded is that they're the same exact maps from the Inner Sea World Guide, and those are folded as part of the printing process; it was easy and inexpensive to have some extra copies set aside and shipped along with the book from China. While it's possible that we could have asked them to ship some non-folded copies, we'd then have to ship a whole pallet from China just for a small number of posters, which would have cost quite a lot on a per-poster basis. (And asking *them* to tube them would be even worse). By keeping them folded, they were able to just add a couple boxes of posters to the same-sized boxes full of books; that's pretty much free shipping.

The marketing posters are printed in the US; it costs a lot less to ship that pallet. (We roll them and tube them as we sell them.)

If you mean the Inner Sea Poster Map Folio, that's a different answer altogether.

The Map Folios are intended to be a retail product, and that fact drives the answers to a lot of questions: things like what format it should be and how many copies we should make... and *those* answers help determine where we can have it printed and how much we're willing to pay for it, and all of those answers together inform the suggested retail price (which has to cover our costs and our desired profits, our distributor's costs and their desired profits, and the retailer's costs and their desired profits).

These marketing posters, though, are *not* primarily designed to make a profit—they're mainly designed to increase retail awareness (and hopefully sales) of another product that *is* designed to make a profit. And that change in fundamental requirements means that when we ask all those same questions, we'll often come to different answers.

The funny thing is that even though we plan the marketing posters as a marketing expense, that fact that we've set some aside to sell through the site means that everybody who buys one is helping to defray those costs, and if we sell through them all, we'll actually come pretty close to covering the cost of all the free ones we sent to retailers. Achieving our marketing goals without actually losing money is a wonderful thing, so thanks to everybody who buys one—your support helps spread the word!

Awesome poster. Ordered!

Picked up the Inner Sea World Guide poster on this order too, but this one? I almost ordered two. (I realized if I did they would only ship two per tube so I did not increase my order to three posters.)

Had I only noticed the Ultimate Magic poster before I finalized the purchase of this one...Oh well, two tubes coming my way. :D

Thanks for the answer. I figured it had to be something like that. I'm glad to hear these sell so well!

Shadow Lodge RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 8

I ordered this and two other posters a couple of weeks ago. The other two arrived in great condition, but this one had been mangled in transit. I emailed paizo about the damage and they got back to me before the end of the day. Four days later I had a new Carrion Crown poster in perfect condition.

Great game, great art, outstanding customer service.
