9th/12th lvl quadstalt with 3+ feats per level is a pretty massive jump up in power levels than what I was previously expecting, even with me expecting it to be high powered.
This may additionally be complicated by our Psionics only limitations. There are only 10 Psionic classes and if each of us are getting 4 apiece then I am expecting nigh complete overlap with each other. This might not be nearly as much of a problem with normal Pathfinder since there are way more options but I would not be surprised if we turned into a collection of independent one-man armies.
Plus that might mean we might be getting like 30-40 feats each! There’s only so many useful Psionic feats so I would be expecting Psionic Body with a whole buncha Psionic Talent feats being used as filler to be popping up (you get 2hp and 2+1pp per Psionic Talent). Using 20 feats, that grants +40hp and +228pp. 30 feats gets you +60hp and +500pp. A whopping 40 feats would net you +80hp and +860pp...
For comparison, a lvl 20 Psion gets 343pp.

I’ll have to wait to see what Seb comes back with.

feels good to be missed. :)
The main reason I quit playing so long ago was due to a bad case of writers block, I just couldn't hear the character's voices anymore. It became very difficult to roleplay a character when he couldn't talk. I just couldn't make it work. :p
So I had an idea for getting around that that I want to try, I am going to revive one of my favorite characters whose voice I already know well and that will hopefully be enough to properly return. ^_^
So here I am rebuilding Midiotoziggeroto and having a lot of fun doing so! Level 8 is a good bit higher than what he used to be and I am expecting some more high powered build rules so I get to do some theorycrafting. I am still trying to stick to the heart of the hyper, talkative and mobile toon I used to know :)

Well that’s interesting timing. :)
I was talking to a friend about one of my favourite characters from a long time ago (6+ years!) and how much fun I had playing out his personality. The conversation really went great and got me hyped up about the character and the idea of resurrecting him so that I could live vicariously once more. So I came back here to see if I could find a place for him (it has been a while since I have last played on these boards).
First day looking and what do I find? Why nothing but a game looking specifically for Psionic characters! And as a bonus I got here right at the start of recrutment (instead of hours before the deadline like I remember being the norm...) so that's hugely helpful ^_^

A bit about Midioto:

Midioto is an Elan Psion (Nomad) with the Speed of Thought and Fast Steps feats. These mean he gets to run around quite fast and (as a move action) teleport all over the blinking place with a series of distinctive POP! noises. He also frequently uses his powers to hover in the air, allowing him to POP! into existence anywhere on land or in the air as he desires, albeit he can get pretty clumsy if he does so too quickly, not like that's ever stopped him though!

Midioto is young, impulsive and absolutely bursting with eye-straining energy. He is constantly high on life and in a rush to explore the "next exciting thing." Midioto is never one to sit still and has a curiosity streak to rival 9 cats' worth of lives, which when combined with Midioto's locational abilities can lead to the occasional headache and raised eyebrow. A few times he has occasionally tried to carry multiple conversations with people on completely opposite sides of the room simultaneously. He also practically vibrates when being told (often) to simply "shut up and sit still!" It doesn't last long...
Visually, Midioto is so infused with power that it leaves his very body awash in brighter-than-life pastel yellow.

Midioto also tends to be a collector, depending on which version of him, in one he collected power stones, gems and crystals with an almost mania-like fixation. I might try something like that again.

I have 2 versions of Midioto, a lvl 6 human and a lvl 3 Elan. I'll be using the Elan obviously :p
Midioto is an Elan Psion Nomad who basically embodies the concept of freedom in movement. He also tends to be just as freely thrifty with his Power Points, he has a lot and he rarely hoards them.
I am going to have to upscale him quite drastically (he was originally mid-powered lvl 3!) so I am not yet sure how well he will take to the ramped up power levels. It should be a fun way to get reacquainted with him tho. ^_^

As for the world you are creating, it looks like a lot of fun :)
I can see the appeal and challenge in trying to make the game work without any humans or magic whatsoever and I think that's neat. So I will try my best to also make Midioto fit into that ideal.

btw, Elans, especially if they have the Natural Healing power, can be significantly more robust than you might expect. I would not be suprised if in a pinch that my Psion could be able to tank as much damage as a meatstick, self-heal back up and continue on as if nothing happened. :p
Sure it might deplete my reserves but Elans are THE poster boys for Self-Sufficient-In-A-Can syndrome. :p

THORAK!!! Midioto calls out from the back where he had been watching the groups rear.
After the shadows dissipate, Midioto rushes over to the fallen Dwarfs body.
Untrained Heal check: 1d20 + 6 - 2 ⇒ (10) + 6 - 2 = 14
Sniff. Looks like hes gone :,(
Midioto then helps with making the grave in any way that he can, but he is mostly just uselessly in the way.
After they had buried him Midioto turns to the group
We should probably say something over him. Who knew him the best, or longest?

Afterwards;
OK. Sniff, lets get going we should be moving on. Quickly.
The loss of a partner seems to be weighing heavilly on the young lad.

So we are just going to convinently forget that we have ressurection magic? Yes? K, just checking :)

Merry Christmas and Happy New year everyone!!
First off, sorry for going dark this last (checks) month... (Wowzers)
After dealing with some med difficulties and a VERY hectic Christmas schedule this just kinda got left to the wayside :(

On the plus side, I had an awesome Christmas, spent with lots and lots and lots of family and friends :) Truly I am blessed with that. Plus the meds worked EXTREMELY well and I was able to enjoy all of it! (And it was the busiest Christmas I have had in many years by FAR!)

Overall, a great month and I had a blast :) Now I am really itching to get back into this, as I missed it a lot. Sorry for the absence, but I'd like to jump back in if that's alright?

PS: How was your guys Christmas? What was a highlight?

Well I can blast with lightning, or fire if you think that would be more effective. I can also attempt a more direct, mental assault.
Or, if you wish, I can port one of you guys up into the sky before we start where it is probably safer. Or if someone like Luca desires, I can port him directly into melee range of one of the shadows.

Midioto fidgets a bit, not desiring to get half-eaten again, and fiddling with his left arm a bit.

Ok. I can put someone safely into the sky, if you want. Or I can put someone directly into melee for an easy full attack. Or I can simply blast from a distance, but I can only do one of these.
Does anyone want a specific spot?

Also, if anyone wants mobility or to be placed somewhere at any point, just ask. Midioto would LOVE to feel useful and show off his powers a bit, and it makes it easier for me to know.

Well I should have little trouble with undead creatures. From my studies I have concluded that they should be easier to hit, and my elemental damage will harm them just the same... Havn't actually FACED one yet tho...
...Plus I can get you out of a tough spot Rivet, if you end up in one. Midioto winks at Rivet, then POP!s out of existance, swapping places with Rivet.
Cast Dimension Swap for 3pp on Rivet.
POP!
Rivet is now on the other side of the party and slightly disorientated.

Haha! But fun aside, ya. We could check out whats checking out what we left behind when we checked out of there. Just to see if there is anything worth seeing that we could see... Ya'see?

Wasting more pp and annoying more people :/ Mid is doing his job well!

Rivet: Explore old Camp.
Lwazi: Metal Chamber. Avoid Shadows.
Midioto: Metal Chamber.
Roy: Shadow Camp.
Roulette: Shadow Camp. (Yes, you get a vote, dagnabit!)
Gin: n/a
Luca: n/a
Thorek: (no vote)
------------=======------------
2 for the Metal Chamber
3 for the Camp (1 against)
2 unvoted

So, that should mean we are heading to the Camp, so Midioto will change his vote to solidify that choice.

Should I wait for a while longer for Gin/Luca to chime in or should I prod us along?

POP! POP! POP!
Midioto returns down to the earth and then explains what he sees to the group.
Great view up there. From what I could see, there seems to be some sort of metal chamber or structure bit into the hill over there. I would be quite intruged with that, it indicates intelligent design, same with the maze, which is that way. And shrouded in mist. There is also the river, over there, and its source is not far from here, but something seems off about it, it might be fed from underground? Finally, it seems something shadowy has claimed our old base, and that is worrying.
Midioto indicates each direction in turn.
So? Where would we like to go? Rivet? You think the old base? Lwazi? The metal structure? I would agree with that, I say the metal structure. The rest of you?

Is the elemental still here? He kinda got forgotten about :/ If he is;

To Roulette:
(Fragmented Elemental Speech) Hi! You live here, do you know anything about these places? Can you tell us anything else about them?

Then, exasperated, ge turns to Luca, Sigh. Translation?

What? You mean we can't eat owls? Well dang. I was pretty, pretty sure that we could. You can cook chickens after all... Oh well, I'ma try to cook it anyways. See what.. Midioto looks at the owl for a moment, Ugly, rock-faced birds of ugly taste like... Shouldn't have done that, there goes my appetite. :(
Midioto makes a disgusted face then packs the bird into his(someones?) pack and continues on.

I believe we should absolutely continue on! We have not actually found much of anything so far, and we have not gotten particularly far. We did get some food, so that is a huge relief, but we still have "lots of sunlight" left to burn. Midioto seems rather annoyed by his own comment but continues on non-the-less. I figure we should continue on, but first, let me get my bearings.
With that, Midioto POP!s directly up into the sky, and does a few times repeatedly until he is well above the tree canopy.
POP! POP! POP!
Once up there, he takes his bearings, and casts Know Direction and Location, then looks around and takes stock of the surrounding landscape and any notable features.

Alright, here is an excellent time for some direction and/or plot hooks. What do I see? What around here would be an interesting thing to explore? Do I notice something that would be worth the party heading towards it?

Hey guys, just a heads up.
Meds I'm taking just took a pretty nasty turn for the worse :(
It's been about a week and I have barely been able to post anything, and I'm getting behind on all (3) of my campaigns.
So sorry, my posts for the immediate future will probably be sporadic and short. Bot me if needed :(
I'll try and post as much as I can.

Had a long post about teleporting onto a hapless owl and gathering fruits but it got eaten. So just a short post this time :(

Hey guys! Watch this!
POP! Midioto disappears in a moment, reappearing on top of an owl a few dozen feet away, and in the next moment there is chaos as feathers, limbs, blood and screeches explode in a giant tangle as limbs go flying everywhere.
Finally subduing the frantic bird, Midioto brings it back to the group.
pant. pant. Heh. I bet these animals have never seen a move quite like that before! They are pretty docile, I would have figured that the giant raptors and such would make them wary. I'll have to write that down.
And then turning to Roy
Good job collecting those fruits. I am curious to see what value they may have back in the cave.

With the effort of the group, everyone manages to pack up the camp and relocate everything over to the cave and start unloading things there. Inside people work together to set up a temporary holding spot for all of the equipment and supplies and put them in a place where they won't get lost or damaged. It is a temporary effort as soon the rest of the caves will be explored and excavated to suit their needs but for now, it their immediate needs that are being addressed. A safe place and a solid door for their hole in the ground. Luxuries such as shelving, 4-post beds and permanent lighting will come later >_>

After a few hours, Midioto calls everyone together to take a break and discuss what their next big step is going to be.
Right guys. Good work getting everything over here and what we have managed to achieve so far. Rivet, I like what you did to set up a temporary trap over the front door. And Roy? I am impressed with your finesse with that pickaxe. Didn't know that was possible.
RIGHT! Someone brought up a good point, and that is that our food supplies are limited and we are going to need to find some way to restock them. Honestly, I am really hesitant on eating anything from here, as proven from that last apple I ate, but we might not have any choice. So I suggest we go out into the forest and see what we can scavenge up that might be edible. Whatever we find, we will debate later on whether we should eat it, or if its safe. But for now, we should at least see what we can find.
Any disagreements? No? Ok, great! Lets get this show on the road.
Oh! If anyone sees anything of interest while we are out there, let me know. We are still getting paid to explore this place so don't forget that!

After another hour or so of preparation, the group meets up at the front of the cave, and checks their belongings.
Right. Roy? Rivet? Care to show us what you have got in place for our front door? And with that done, everyone set? OK! Onwards, towards the forest!

That should get us out the door and on the way. If anyone wants to add anything in at whatever point, feel free :)
I covered a fair bit of time including: Moving things to the cave. Setting up inside the cave. Fortifying the cave. Break/discussion. Preperation. Outside the cave. And then us starting the hike.

Once outside the Cave, Midioto will once again set up some of his powers for the journey, Casting Inertial Armor and Defy Gravity (4pp)

Lwazi narrows his eyes. "Midioto, why are you calling your arm a he? I think that is quite enough exposing yourself to the Maelstrom. We need you to get us home alive, not to become part of the Maelstrom yourself."

It was just a slip of the tongue. Midioto responds irritably. Its not the arm. Its this Dam sun. I cant sleep at night, or whenever. Heh. Still using Old-World terminology. But anyways, I cant sleep! The constant brightness is wearing me down, making me distracted and irritable. I cant sleep. And. I. Cant. Think. Straight...

As for the Maelstrom, I agree. Kinda. And also not. We are ALL exposed to the Maelstrom, I am realizing that it is all around us. Its in the earth, the plants, the sky. Heck its even in the very air we are breathing, and that worries me. This arm, he lifts up his left hand, woke me up a bit and I realized just how easily all of you guys could be affected. I NEED to figure out how to get us out of here, and soon. To do that, I need to be able to navigate the Maelstrom to get us back home. At the moment, studying the Maelstrom is the only thing I CAN do right now, at least until I can think of something else.
But I agree. No point killing myself in the process so I should slow it down and take it cautiously. However, I do need to keep going, I have got to get you guys back...

Midioto sighs a deep, weary sigh. Lwazi you get a rare view of how stressed and tired Midioto actually is and how much this is all weighing down on him before he perks back up and returns to his normal, excitable self.
BUT! In the meantime, I will continue to push forward with energetic optimism! And scientific curiosity! Cant forget that. Gotta stay positive.
And maybe this Spider Cave will be better and darker and I can rest there.

WOW! What a trip! Hey guys, I think I am making progress! Without a doubt I am still an outsider and unwanted in the Maelstrom, I think they/it/something views me as something kind of like a virus or foreign object. However, I think they are starting to warm up to me due to my repeated forays into it. Also, I have now been able to confirm that there are, in fact creatures that live within the Maelstrom itself! Its habitable! Combined with my previous experience where I am pretty sure I felt something, or someone who is incredibly powerful "out there" and I think that the Maelstrom might be a place we can go to, like exploring the bottom of the ocean or such.
Midioto stops dead, a thought so massive in its revelation has just struck him.
Ummm. Guys? Now that I think of it, I don't actually know HOW I can survive in the Maelstrom... Obviously its different, but I also think it should be completely antithesis to normal, carbon-based life. Heck, I don't think I even had to BREATHE out there... There's a possibility that time works differently out there, or maybe even not at all, and the periods of stasis that happen after each "jump" are a result of the differing realities correcting themselves...
Well now I know what I need to do experiment with for next time!!!
And Rivet!!! TELL ME! What did you experience???

Lwazi wrote:
Lwazi observes the 'experiment' with concern. Sometime later in the day he casually asks, "How is your arm, Midioto?"

Midioto recoils protectively for a moment as Lwazi asks. He thinks about it a moment then relaxes and shows him his arm. The arm itself looks normal and uninjured/uninhibited but the fingers do twitch and spasm a bit on their own.

Well, I don't think I can call him stable. It. but I also don't think its going to start mutating or changing on his own any time soon. I can feel elemental power flowing through it, and I figure that he should resonate with such magics, but I have not yet had the opportunity to do tests. However, I have lost a lot of fine motor control from him. It. It appears that the nerves may be damaged or tangled somehow.
I'll be keeping an eye on it for now, but I don't think we can really do anything about him for the time being.

He quickly retracts it and hides it behind his robes.
DC 20 Sense Motive:
Midioto is not lying. Probably. But the lads unease and constant misuse of pronouns hints that the problem might be more complex then can be communicated in a short conversation.

Who's willing to help me with an experiment?

Yay! Rest. I get my PP back!
Midioto wakes up once more, grumpy and irritable. The constant daytime is really messing with the highly sensitive lad and it was bothering him even when he was covered. It just felt... wrong.
Nevertheless, Midioto begins the day (I really need to come up with a better descriptive term then that... Cycle?) with what is becoming his new routine, and starts by casting Inertial Armor (1pp) and Defy Gravity (3pp). He then prepares for his excursion into the Maelstrom.
This time, he attempts some things a bit differently.
First he calls (Somebody) over to help him out with his studies.
Hi! Thanks for the help, first off, I am going to enter the Maelstrom, then I am going to send YOU into the Maelstrom! Exciting isn't it? Just think, I wont be the only one experiencing this and I will have someone to compare experiences with! I cant wait!
First, he gives his hourglass the his helper and instructs him to time his duration into the Maelstrom.
Next Midioto concentrates once more and casts Touchsight (5pp), becoming hyper aware of his surroundings, almost as if he could feel every minute disturbance around him.
Then, he pulls out a shard of obsidian (+3 Shard of Lore: Maelstrom) and grasps it tightly, the shard dissolving into his hand.
Right. Ready? GO!
Midioto POP!s into the Maelstrom once more...

The Maelstrom:
Spending 5pp to Time Hop into the Maelstrom for half a minute or so, then doing another Knowledge check once I'm in there.
Lore: The Maelstrom: 1d20 + 17 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 17 + 3 = 31
Once inside the Maelstrom, Midioto will also attempt to perceive his surroundings with his enhanced vision, feeling everything within 60ft of him automatically.
Perception (with Touchsight): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
Fort for Riptide: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
Frozen For: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4 Minutes.

Then Midioto returns to the real world, frozen once more.
After a good 4 minutes, he slowly thaws out and looks at his assistant excitedly
That is great! Now its YOUR turn! Are you ready?
Once his assistant is, Midioto will cast Time Hop (5pp) once more, but this time on someone else.
Assistant in the Maelstrom:

Welcome to the other side!
Feel free to make a perception roll or something and see what Icehawk has to offer you :)
Once you exit the Maelstrom (about 6 rounds later) you need to make a DC 30 Fort save. Success means you are stuck in stasis for 1d4+1 rounds. Failure means you are stuck for 1d4+1 minutes.

Midioto will hover around his assistant while he thaws, extremely interested in everything he can observe. Once he thaws, he will hound him with questions, Well? How was it? What did you see???

Later, as the group readies to leave, Midioto looks around at the group, a satisfied look on his face
Right. Well, we are exactly 5.1 miles from the Spider Cave, in this direction. He points with his finger, So that should take about an hour and a half, walking. We should probably go a bit slower to keep alert and safe but it won't take long.

Once at the cave, Midioto Responds to Roy, Well, we did clear out the cave the last time we were here, however that might have changed since then, and we might have missed something. So we should go at this as if it is still inhabited. We should be able to leave most of the stuff near the entrance and explore the cave with greater care this time.

Assuming everyone agrees...
Great! With everyone in agreement then we should make preparations to move everything in the morning, or rather, when we next wake up... Stupid light cycle here. No freaking nighttime. At least I'll sleep better in the cave.
In the meantime, we should begin packing up camp. You, get those supplies gathered together. You, gather up the remains of the Raptor. I'll help Gin pack up the Alchemy Lab.
When we move, it would be best to move as a group, leave no one behind. Make sure we take the most valuable things in the first trip, in case something happens to the camp while we are gone.

Sorry for being kinda bossy, but I decided it would be good for Midioto to take charge and get things moving.

Midioto keeps himself busy with packing up the alchemy lab as best he can.
But at some point after that, and before everyone goes to bed, Midioto will once again attempt to explore the Maelstrom.

The Maelstrom:
Spending 5pp to Time Hop into the Maelstrom for half a minute or so, then doing another Knowledge check once I'm in there.
Lore: The Maelstrom: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (7) + 17 = 24
Fort for Riptide: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
Frozen For: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5 Minutes.

Once he Unthaws, he will attempt it again.

After all that, he finally settles down for a much desired rest.
So what is the watch going to look like? Who's up first?

well its 3pp per person to pop them in and out, and all I really need is line of sight, so if we have a fist sized hole through a wall in the side of the mountain then we can have a "secret" escape route.
It does take about 1 round per person. A move action to pop out, standard action swap places. Rinse, repeat.

Also, it shouldn't be TOO difficult to set up a trap at the front entrance. Simply have a trapdoor above the entrance with lots of rocks above it. have a rope or some other system in place so that someone on the inside simply pulls it and the roof caves in, blocking the door.
Its a lot of work to reset it but it would be a quick defense if something comes.

Also, I have a Ioun Torch. If I gave it to Rivet, he should be able to duplicate it so that we can string them around inside the cave, so we can see.

Oh, I also plan on telling Roy some plans for a lab/storage space. The lab would have lots of benches and shelves to hold stuff, and an adjacent enclosed room that can be used to "test" stuff. Lots of light in that room.
Attached to it, I would also ask him to carve out a storage room where we can store the materials we have found, and so we can easily access them from the lab.
Lots of shelves of different sizes :)

Lwazi, you may, or may not remember the first time I tried to teleport into the Warp, and came back. At the time I had said that I think there might be something Cosmic watching us, and your conversation with Roy might jog that memory.
This is kinda metagamey so feel free to ignore :)

And to everyone:
We are starting to amass some resources, which is cool :)
Any thoughts on what you would like to do with it? Just wishlisting here.
For me, crafting an Agile Amulet of Mighty Fists would be my first pick. In the future I intend to transition more into a melee focused caster and this would help me actually hit, which is good. 4k usually, 2k to craft :)
Edit: Just remembered that I can't craft it :( Does anyone have Craft Wounderous Item?

What about you guys?

--At some point after we return to camp--
POP! Midioto appears next to Roulette the elemental and immediately enters a barrage of questions.

Fragmented Elemental Speech:
Hi! Finally a chance to talk! You are so interesting and I have many things I would want to talk to you about! Do you have a home? Or are you nomadic in nature? Do you travel in packs or individually? You say you are a young one, so how old are you? Drat, I wonder if there is any real way to tell time here... Its getting difficult... You see, where we come from, the sun sets, it does this thing where it moves in the sky and eventually reaches then end, then it goes down. At that point there is no sun! Can you believe it? The entire outside looks like the inside of a cave, there is no light! We call that night. It sure is different than here, we do this thing called "sleeping" during that time, where we, uhh, shut off? I think that's the word? We do that until the sun comes back up again, and guess what? It appears on the OTHER side of the land! If it sets on the left, then it rises on the right! Neat, eh?
Midioto takes a breath before continuing...
This may, or may not be communicated very well, and undoubtedly Midioto will call Luca over to help translate.

Forgot to include this earlier with my talk about the note;
Hmmm! This adds more credibility to my theories about multiple dimensions! Is it possible we have 3 "First" expeditions? This raises so many exciting possibilities!!!

Midioto returns the green slime and venomous fangs back to Gin then responds to Lwazi.
I agree. We can't yet use much of the ingredients we do have, however it would not be amiss to start planning on what we would like to use them for. It would also probably be a good idea to try and set up a safe location with which to store these ingredients. I also do not like having those Raptor remains just lying out in the open. They may attract other native wildlife.
Say, Roy. Would you be able to dig us an underground vault with which to store these materials? I can draw up some plans for you to follow later if we can do that.

Midioto frowns when Roy attempts to defend himself, the youth had already accepted the man due to the present circumstances.
Don't worry Roy, I believe you. An I think we should all act on the assumption that the things here are what they say they are. Besides, we know that there are current sentient beings here on this island. He gestures to the Elemental, And we have too little knowledge here to know truth from fabrication. The rules here are different, and that seems to apply on a fundamental level. Our main objective at this point is to absorb as much knowledge as we can, so that we can base our later observations on our initial findings, and through that, begin to determine what is real.
Roy. Give me you knowledge, and give me your skills and that is enough.

Then Luca and Roy leave the camp for a bit and Rivet suggests relocating camp.
That may very well be a good idea. With the magical pickaxes that Roy and Thorek have, we should be able to fortify the cave MUCH better then our open fort here. It may very well be a better location.
HOWEVER. I am starting to run on empty! We should rest here and recover at minimum before we do! And if we do decide to do that, it may take a fair few trips to relocate everything of importance from here to there. So we will have to decide on that.

I am assuming that Thorek is still here, we haven't lost him. yet...
And the cave will be a good place for Roy (and I guess Thorek too) to use their lovely pickaxes :)

--Later, after Roy and Luca return--
Midioto gathers the group together once more
Alright, listen up guys! Rivet has brought up a very good idea. He is suggesting that we relocate our base to the spider caves. His reasonings include that it would be significantly easier to fortify and barricade, and safer too. Light sources may be a concern but if we can figure that out we may be better off then here.
Now I want your guys opinions and concerns on the matter and then I would like to take a vote on whether we should move or not. Any comments?

Midioto would vote to relocate.

Midioto finishes his tests, and with a POP! he teleports a little ways into the air.
Cast Defy Gravity 3pp

Ok guys, gather round! I have some interesting discoveries from the materials we have gathered so far, and I figured you guys would be interested to know about them.
POP! Midioto returns to the ground, he then picks up one of the purple apples. It seems to take him some effort.

This is an Adam's Apple. It can be significantly addictive and seems to initiate change in things. Specifically, it acts as a catalyst, not causing mutations itself but rather causing other things we eat to mutate. It would also probably make for a great catalyst within a potion! As for my case, as I did not eat anything afterwards I should be ok... The Warp Jump was a bad idea, but that should have passed now...

He puts the apple down and picks up a sample of the green slime.
This lovely stuff is called Gelato, and its potent stuff!! It makes a great curative as it seems to bond any wounds it is placed over. I wouldn't use too much tho, I would need to run further tests to determine its long term effects but I suspect they wouldn't be enjoyable.

He sets the sample down and picks up a few strands of spider silk
These durable threads are very cut resistant, and would make for some very high quality cloth, if anyone can sew... I couldn't come up with a catchy name for them, all I got was Spider Man! Spider Man! and a red-and-blue tights. Any ideas?

Setting that back down, he then picks up a fang.
These potent puppies would obviously make for a great venom or toxin, but I doubt that any one of us can actually brew poisons? Gin, maybe? If not, I am pretty sure I could extract the essence within to enchant some other items, it just wouldn't be as effective.

Lastly he picks up the paper very gently with 2 fingers of each hand.
And this. This is probably the most scary of the lot. The magics emanating from this bad boy are impressive. This things old. Like really old. And held together by powerful abjurations. Yet it is still rather fragile. The contents seems to be about a previous research team that was posted here, and it seems they ran into one of our raptorbunny friends only theirs might have been significanly larger. It mentions losing a dozen to the attack, so they must have had a significantly larger party too.

Midioto then reads the note out loud for the rest to hear;

Note wrote:

Day 5-

We've encountered a mighty beast, titanic in scope. It was taller then even some of the tallest Giants. The beast has strange tendril like limbs, a body like a centaur, and dozens of pairs of maindbles running down it's chest. This creature, and others of it's scope, seem to be unfathomably durable, due to a lack of any internal processes to fail- the only way to truly defeat one is to tear it up until it can't move. We have dubbed these creatures primal beasts. A dozen of the subjects were lost to the beast, a fortunately low number to be sure.

It seems that some of these beasts have derastic effects on the envorment around them- in the distance, we can see a figure in a firestorm, and another a sandstorm.
Dispite all this, this place is turning out to be the bounty we had expected- resources aplenty. I will continue to update my book on ingredients I have discovered, and combinations I have tested.

-sal-vallana.

After doing so, Midioto carefully folds up the note and sticks it inbetween a few pages of his unending notebook. Hey Lwazi, mind if I hold on to this? I figure I can keep it safe and preserved inside this magical book.

If not, Midioto returns it

Well? Any thoughts on these? Or possibly where we should investigate next? That maze looks interesting and designed. Or we could go back to the entry point, try and get some answers there.
It seems that having something to do has been good for the youths mind, keeping it off of other... Failures.

Sorry. That took time. It has been a long day. Late night. But I got it up. Also Midioto is taking some liberties in naming things ^_^ He is a researcher after all!!! (And he hasn't yet named something after himself. >_> Yet.)

I'll, uh, I'll make myself useful now...
Midioto POP!s over to Gin, Hey. You figure now is as good a time as any to get that lab set up? I would very much like to do some tests and whatnot on these materials we have aquired and the lab would help tremendiously.

Midioto waits until the lab gets set up then gathers up the ingredients that the group has collected so far so that he can examine it, however he ends up dropping one of the fangs, as it seems that he has become rather clumsy.
OOPS! Sorry!
If the lab gets set up, he uses that, and add any appropriate bonuses to his rolls, if it does not, he continues anyways without it. Time permitting, Midiotos plan is to check everything that he can, and then cast Call to Mind on any checks that he fails. Note, he only gets the re-roll if he fails the check. If he passes, disregard the re-roll.

Midioto sets himself up in the lab and begins working with the materials.
First he examines the purple apples, shaking slightly as he does so.
K: Nature: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17
Then concentrates, calling anything else he can to his mind. (1pp)
K: Nature rr: 1d20 + 10 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 10 + 4 = 19
Next he begins to work on the Green Slime, but quickly realizing that he does not have the necessary knowledge, so he "Borrows (1pp) Gins Knowledge for the task.
Craft: Alchemy: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (9) + 14 = 23
I gain 5 ranks in Craft: Alchemy, +3 FCB, +6 Int: +14, for 1pp. However, the spell does not last long enough to also cast Call to Mind, so only 1 roll here. Also, apparently NONE of us has K: Dungeoneering ^_^
Midioto then calls over to Lwazi; Hey Lwazi! You had those magical papers, right? Mind handing them over here and I'll take a look at them?
If Lwazi does not, Midioto will continue on. But if he does;
Midioto then casts Detect Psionics/Magic on the papers, and then concentrates on the papers for a while. Depending on what that tells him, he will just shrug and read the papers.
Next (assuming his eyeballs have not disintegrated) Midioto will examine some of the spiders webs.
K: Nature: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26
Then concentrate again, calling anything else he can to his mind. (1pp)
K: Nature rr: 1d20 + 10 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 10 + 4 = 26
After that, he observes the spider fangs once more.
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 10 = 29
Call to Mind only works on K checks.
Finally, he examines the venom itself, attempting to learn what he can.
K: Arcana: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14
Then concentrate again, calling anything else he can to his mind. (1pp)
K: Arcana rr: 1d20 + 10 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 10 + 4 = 28

GM:
Lastly and secretively, Midioto examines himself, to see what he can learn.
K check: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26

Spent 4 pp total.
If anyone does not want to give me the materials, just say so and you keep them, disregarding the appropriate roll. Also, if anyone wants to join me in identifying these feel free to join :)

I DO have 2 more of those, but that was rather unstable. Otherwise we could return to our initial portal, we might have more luck there.
but... maybe?

Midioto looks visibly uncomfortable.
BUT! I can keep researching return strategies from here. Plus the Company should be able to reach out to us, from their end, if they determine there to be a problem, we just don't know when that might be...

At this point I am kinda waiting for a prompt. Am I supposed to interact with it? Can I speak through it or should I attempt to travel through it? Midioto would know what to do here, so he will go ahead and do that, whatever it is.

Its OK guys, its still OK! This should still be within my calculations, this is a different method then the one we used to get here, so it is manifesting differently.
However, this IS very powerful MagiTech and this IS a very chaotic location, so this is very difficult. But I still got it...

At least, I THINK I still got it. Ya, this is working...
Midioto, ever the optimist. :)

I'ma about to do something. One sec :P

Hello :)
It looks like I won't have time or energy to fully apply for this, which is a shame, that entity angle seemed fun.
On top of that, I doubt I would be able to add another game to my repertoire and still keep up with all of them, so I would have probably not joined anyways.

Still, it was fun theory crafting a character for this and coming up with different ideas/backstory points for him :)

At one point I was looking at an Aegis/Psion egoist, and that combo is SCARRY! Aegis gives you good defences, free enhancement bonuses and powerful build. Psion gives you expansion and later access to animal afinity. So you could wield an oversized Greataxe then grow to large size, making the axe deal 3d8 damage, with enhancement bonuses from lvl 1 ^_^ you also have full access to Metamorphosis and all of the many abilities available to it.
Overpowered, but fun :)

Then that evolved to a Steel-Soul/Glory-of-Old dwarf aegis who would take Stalwart at lvl 2, giving him some saves around 12 fort, 9 ref, 11 will, against spells and the ability to completely negate a spell he saved against, rather then being partially affected.
So near immunity to spells. Which I thought would be fun to combine with the Ire of the entity. It would give the GM free reign to chuck as many spells at me as he wanted, in addition to whatever else he had in mind.
I was going to combine it with Aether Kineticist for Con based ranged attacks, and telekinesis to complete the "Magical Dwarf" theme.

Then that evolved into something very different. I was thinking of a Swordsman who was capable and effective with any sword he picked up, regardless of its origin. He was also a blacksmith and made swords.
So, a fighter who made extensive use of the "Feat Taxes" rules, especially the ones that allow feats to apply to weapon groups instead of individual weapons.
However, Pathfinder encourages focusing on 1 specific weapon and its difficult to utilize 2 weapons, let alone more, so I needed a class that could buff me, specifically rather then the weapon I wield, so that I can keep up.
So pair him up with the Egoist Psion! He would have less focus on expansion, but a large focus on Metamorphosis for enhancements. He would also use Inertial Armor, so he would be running around without armor.
I don't yet know if he would be favored/ired by the entity, but that was his idea :)

Ya, it was fun building these characters :)

As for the modified Psychoportation Circle, Psionics does not really have a good planar travel power, and I wanted something that could sit there for at least a little bit, allowing multiple people to cross.

Then I found out that there IS a power called.... Planar Travel that I somehow missed seeing for a looong time, a few years at least.
Previously, the only method I knew about was Astral Caravan, which required everyone else to manifest a 1st lvl power, and then took weeks to reach our destination, which would not work here.

So I just modified the Psychoportation Circle power to include planar travel for the simplest effect.
Since its doomed to fail anyways, it doesn't really matter.

BUUUT the idea of a 2 hour long portal sitting right in the middle of our camp that juuuusst miight spew forth monsters and horrors of the Maelstrom into our living room hasn't been lost on me XD

The idea that I just summoned a psychologists circle to my location seems... Baad.
Lets see: I have ADHD.
Bouts of Mania.
Delusions of Grandeur.
Delusions that I can fly.
Delusions that I can alter reality with just my mind.
Delusions that I can talk to people "Telepathically".
Unfounded belief that the concepts of "Momentum" and "Location" are subjective, and that I can alter them at will.
Unusual belief that wearing this "Special Headband" makes me smarter.
Belief that I can "borrow" anothers skills, abilities and actual knowledge for a time, simply by looking at them.
Belief that I can heal physical wounds simply by poking my tattoo.
And he believes that someting is living in his hand, and it encourages him to do bad things... Ya THAT will go over well >_>

Ya.. Somehow I anticipate that summoning a circle of psychologists to a game world would be realllly bad for me :)

Actually, it sounds like a good way to get to know each other! What would a circle of psychologists have to say about you?

Activating the Stone (DC 18): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
DC 5 Wis check for BrainBurn: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8 (I could only fail that on a 1 and I almost did >_>)
Ghaaa! he yells out as the stone flings him 10 feet backwards.
Its ok! I was expecting this... I'll have to try again.
And he goes back to sitting crosslegged. In the air, 5ft off the ground.

Retry (DC18): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
This time the energies seem to explode outwards and onto the ground in front of him instead of being directed at Midioto himself.
The outline of a circle starts to appear above the dirt.
I got it guys! Quick! Gather around!

It took me a while to remember what it was, it is a modified Psychoportation Circled renamed as a Warp Stone.

Midioto POP!s over to the other side of Roy (He never really figured out that people are unnerved by things materializing directly behind them. >_>) and greets him.
Hi! I am Midiotoziggeroto! Hyperdimensional Technician for the White Butterfly. I am in charge of making sure the group has a return policy back home from here, and to study the Maelstrom from within. I love racing, apples, collecting stones, exploring new places and trying to master my Psycoportation Studies that I brought over from home.
I am fast and mobile, and I can get people out of tight places, and I'm pretty sure I can be in two places at once...
...Altho some people say I practically vibrate, or have an extreme case of ADHD...

Midioto extends his left hand to shake, but seems to reconsider as he immediately retracts it and offers his right instead.

Oop! I'll let someone else talk!
POP! Midioto appears off to the side of the group.

Another thought that crossed my/Midiotos mind is that if I AM right on the multiple dimensions thing, then whos to say that we connect back with OUR dimension?
We may be able to return "home" but not necessarily OUR "home" :S

Oh, Roy, would you mind using [b]Bold text for your speaking? It makes it significantly easier to find if I need to go back and find something you said a while ago.

Midioto sits there for a while, deep in concentration and mumbling archaic formulas under his breath when he suddenly stops and returns to the group with another POP!
Guys. I have a theory, but it should be theoretically impossible... Its just that, well this isn't the realm of normalcy, so maaaaayybe?
Anyways, I remember overhearing something back on Otune, it was some of the "Unspeakables" from the "Department of Mysteries" talking about a theory they had. Multiple dimensions. The idea is simple enough, just as there are multiple planes that we can connect to, specifically the Ethereal plane, which is very similar to our own, just a bit different. There are Theoretically multiple dimensions, each one a near exact copy of this reality, all of the planes and worlds combined.
IF, and thats a BIG IF, there were multiple copies of our world, but small differences between each, then it could THEORETICALLY be possible to have a White Butterfly company in each, and it could THEORETICALLY be possible to take someone from one dimension and transport him into another, or rather, into a middle ground somewhere, like the Maelstrom.
That way, both Companies could each send their first expedition, and both be first, at the same time.
The thing is, this SHOULD be an impossibility, but the Maelstrom just adds in way too many variables that I cant possibly know...

Midioto thinks some more, then pulls out a stone from under his shirt.
This may be a good time to use one of these, they are meant for emergencies and as a contingency for our return trip home, but this might necessitate their use. I only have 3 of them...
The stone he is holding is a Warp Stone.
Using this, I should be able to communicate with those back home.
Edit: Yes, Lwazi, I should be able to communicate back home using this.

XD Teleporting/warp anomalies/impossible theories are right up Midiotos ally, that is literally exactly what he did for a living before this ^_^
Of course he might be totally wrong too!
Time to use one of our contingencies!! Should work, right?
Also, anyone get the Unspeakables/Dept of Mysteries reference?

Midioto POP!s down to ground and infront of the unexpected guest.
Wait a minute! I recognize that emblem! Your from the White Butterfly? Did they send another expedition here without my knowledge? How did they activate a warp gate without my knowing about it?
At the mention of the newcomer being the "first" expedition,
The first? No, I am positive that we were the first, Why I had been working on the very technology that got us here. I don't know how you could have gotten here before we set THAT up, and I didn't hear anything about it being used before us, it is pretty cutting edge tech... Midioto thinks for a moment, then turns to the Imp Berith? You know anything about this?
When the Imp says no,
I gotta think about this for a minute...
POP!
Midioto reappears over on one of the logs nearby and pulls out his notebook with a look of intense concentration on his face...
He also seems to fumble with the book, having to prop it up in the crook of his elbow with difficulty.

That is a surprise to me, I have to first see your display (or effect of your spell) and then I get a Spellcraft check.

Thats weird.

Found this Faq.

What exactly do I identify when I’m using Spellcraft to identify a spell? Is it the components, since spell-like abilities, for instance, don’t have any? If I can only identify components, would that mean that I can’t take an attack of opportunity against someone using a spell-like ability (or spell with no verbal, somatic, or material components) or ready an action to shoot an arrow to disrupt a spell-like ability? If there’s something else, how do I know what it is?

Although this isn’t directly stated in the Core Rulebook, many elements of the game system work assuming that all spells have their own manifestations, regardless of whether or not they also produce an obvious visual effect, like fireball. You can see some examples to give you ideas of how to describe a spell’s manifestation in various pieces of art from Pathfinder products, but ultimately, the choice is up to your group, or perhaps even to the aesthetics of an individual spellcaster, to decide the exact details. Whatever the case, these manifestations are obviously magic of some kind, even to the uninitiated; this prevents spellcasters that use spell-like abilities, psychic magic, and the like from running completely amok against non-spellcasters in a non-combat situation. Special abilities exist (and more are likely to appear in Ultimate Intrigue) that specifically facilitate a spellcaster using chicanery to misdirect people from those manifestations and allow them to go unnoticed, but they will always provide an onlooker some sort of chance to detect the ruse.

Thats interesting. I would also assume that this would apply to the text in the Psionic Spellcraft skill (they don't actually contradict).

That would mean I couldn't build an undetectable Psion mindmucker :(

Temptation?: 1d2 ⇒ 2
Roulette is cool. Ya I like that, it could work. I wonder just how large or small their population could be if they can get away without names. Maybe they use something different to identify each-other? Scent maybe?
Midioto cradles his left arm, seemingly distracted by it.

Once they clear the cave Midioto hangs back a bit, near the rear and then dissapears with a muffled POP! reapearing a minute or so later with another POP!
Once back with the group, Midioto recasts Defy Gravity (3pp) as it had worn off, and takes to the skies. POP!
I'll keep a lookout from up here!
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
Uhh... Guys? I think I hear something in the camp. Maybe something moved in while we were gone? Be on alert.

Midioto attempts to get close to the camp from about 50-60 feet in the air and see whats going on.

GM:
Once outside the cave, and after the others have moved a bit of distance away, Midioto will double back and attempt to harvest a few more fruits without the others knowing.
Fruit?: 1d6 ⇒ 3
3 of them, I guess. He can teleport 55ft in a go, so he should be able to get a good bit of distance if not completely out of sight and be back quickly.
Do I need to make any rolls for this?

Hi Ice! Consider this a dot while I read through things :)
I still have to determine if I am able to take on annother campaign tho...

Edit: drawbacks, background skills, Occult clases (just confirming), mythic? (I recall the old thread intended to go mythic at some point, are you? Should we plan for it?)

That said, the favor/ire looks fun :) I'm all for chaos!

Edit, edit: ooh! I have a mutated halfling using the aberrant aegis class who has a constantly mutating body that could be used with the ire rule quite nicely >:)

As for Wild Talent... That may just be an excelent use of that feat.
Spending a feat to gain the ability to essentially autopass* one concentration check is a HUGE benefit, especially since it only takes 1 round to recharge the effect.
Cast teleportation while grappled? Autopass.
On fire? Cast Energy Adaption. Autopass.
Archer delaying until you cast? Autopass.
Somehow standing next to a freaking dragon? Autopass.
GM throws Fiat at you? Auto-freakin-pass!!

Ya I am convinced that that is an excelent use of the feat and should probably taken by any wizard who has it available to him :)
It would be a lifesaver!
I'll be using that more often.

*And if you cant pass the Concentration check on a 15, you are F#&ked anyways.

Psionic Focus is mainly a mechanic used to limit your action economy.
Metamagic expends your focus (each feat expends seperately) and it takes a full-round action to regain your focus normally. Powers out of combat like casting a Persistant Inertial Armor at the begining of the day are basically unaffected, but you are generally limited to 1 metamagic power in combat unless you are willing to spend a full-round action doing nothing.

You can dump your feats into ways of getting around this but they can be a large investment.
Psionic Meditation reduces it to a move action to refocus, allowing you to metamagic multiple powers in a combat by effectively increasing your casting times to a full-round action.
Deep Focus gives you 2 sepperate focuses at once.
Psicrystal Containment lets your psicrystal (familiar) focus for you.
Metapsionic Mastery lets you stack multiple metamagic feats together for a specific, single power, but each feat costs an additional 2pp, reducing the amount you can augment it.

Aside from that, regaining your psionic focus also allows you to change your "Active Energy Type" wich simply determines what damage type certain spells like Energy Push does.

Certain spells, like Untouchable Aura give you an additional option if you expend your focus, this one lets you cast it as an immediate action.
Cantrips can be cast for free if you expend your focus.

Some class features also work off of your focus, like my Psions ability to teleport can only be used if I am Psionically Focused. This is the main reason I dont use Metamagic feats. I can't teleport if I use metamagic :)
A Wilder can Surge for free if he expends his focus, but at greater risk. It can be very powerful, at 19th a Chaotic Wilder can cast a spell at a +31 caster level for free! That can be any power augmented/metamagiced up to lvl 31, like a 31d10 Mind Thrust.
Ect.

There are also feats that only apply when you are Psionically Focused, like Speed of Thought, which grants you +10ft speed while you are focused, or you can expend your focus to get +40ft speed for a round.

TLDR: Psionic Focus is a limiting factor for some of your powers' enhanced effects and Metamagic, but there are other effects (like feats) that may ride on the limitation. Sometimes some class abilities may lean heavily on this mechanic.
Generally effects can either, a: work only while you are focused, or b:work by expending your focus.
You can only power 1 effect each time you expend your focus.

Cool. You know, if I had known about that, I could have probably prevented myself from getting half eaten :/

That also means I could probably make a completely undetectable Psion Mentalist, mind-muking everyone around me without them realizing that I am the one doing it :p
Being unable to see the effects of a spell, or use Spellcraft to identify it seems highly abusable and powerful, probably overpowered if your clever enough.
Edit: and Elans get bonuses to concentration checks :/
