[Hero Lab] Our plans for Ultimate Equipment and Paths of Prestige

Product Discussion

Silver Crusade Lone Wolf Development

Hi everyone,

We wanted to provide a Hero Lab update related to Pathfinder and the major new books Paizo is releasing at Gen Con, “Ultimate Equipment” and “Paths of Prestige”. Both of these books require a substantial amount of work to implement in Hero Lab. “Ultimate Equipment” contains thousands of items, a large number of which are new, while “Paths of Prestige” encompasses 30 new prestige classes. Each of these alone represents a large amount of content for us to add, but the two combined are huge.

Unfortunately, we only received the "Ultimate Equipment" material from Paizo on Tuesday, with "Paths of Prestige" arriving earlier this month. This means that we have substantially less lead time than usual to get these two massive books entered into Hero Lab.

We’ve already begun incorporating both of these books into Hero Lab. Based on where things currently stand, we wanted to let everyone know that we do not expect to have add-ons for “Ultimate Equipment” or for “Paths of Prestige” available in time for Gen Con. We will release these add-ons as soon as they are ready and will keep everyone posted as to their potential release dates.

Please note that it remains our goal to release material for Hero Lab at the same time new books are released. Based on recent discussions with Paizo, we believe it will be easier to achieve this goal in the future. Unfortunately, those changes will not help with these two upcoming books.

Thanks in advance for everyone's patience as we scramble to get these books ready as soon as possible.

This is great news!

On a related topic, how would I add a spell from one class list to another in Herolab, in this case a magic circle pf protection from a wizard/cleric list to a witch's so that it becomes an option I can choose with 3rd level spells complete with the information when I print the spell sheet?

Ever since I upgraded OSX to Lion, none of the mouse hover functionality works in HL. So I'm back to pencil and paper for the time being. Otherwise I would definitely spring for these new add-ons.

None at all? I'm now on Mountain Lion, and if I go and hover over the star next to one of my favoured classes on the classes tab, I get the popup describing favoured class. I'm almost 100% sure that it used to work ok on Lion too. Do you have any apps installed that modify the OSX user interface in any way?

You might get a quicker official response if you submit a support request directly on the Hero Lab site.

What circumstances are you doing this under?

House rule adding this to the witch's list?

Archetype ability adding this to the class?

Feat/Trait adding this to the class?

The details of how to accomplish it will differ in each case.

(I apologize that I don't have access to any information about how to deal with Mac bugs - I'll send the appropriate person an email about this thread).

Thanks Mathias,
I know this wasn't the place to bring up my issue, and I didn't mean to insinuate that I'll stop supporting HL over it... I just dont feel like registering on Lone Wolf forums for now and I know HL will be there waiting for me when I do. For the time being the return to paper and pencil is refreshing. I thought maybe if I waited it out my bug would just resolve itself in a future HL version release.

brock, no the other one... wrote:

None at all. I dont even get a popup if i hover over a question mark. To be clear, I didn't just upgrade OS, I upgraded machines. Brand new MacBook Pro retina display, and HL was the first program I installed, so no, no apps.

Thanks for the Heolab update. My 'lab-fu' is weak, so I can't offer to help code. Eagerly look forward to throwing money at you for the updates though. :-)

I'd bet beer on it being something to do with the way that HL was ported to the Mac not yet supporting the Retina display. Hopefully someone official will spot this here and raise the issue to be investigated.

I'm happy to try and replicate the problem if someone wants to send me the necessary hardware :)

I'm curious if I should try mountain lion, but I have gimp and Inkscape running really well, which has given me a little trouble before, so I don't want to rock the boat.

Mathias,
I just want to add my voice to many of the well deserved "Thank You"s. Your company has made a great product. Keep up the good work!

Launch the editor (Tools menu...Launch Editor), the create and save a new file.

Go to the "Custom Ability" tab.

Press the "New (Copy)" button at the bottom left. In the list of items that pops up, scroll down until you find "Dimensions" (this is the patron entry you add for this archetype).

When you find it, copy the Id that's in parentheses next to the name - cWitDimens - down on a piece of scrap paper, then choose OK.

Along the top, find the Unique Id - enter a new Id for your copy, such as cWitDimenA.

Along the right-hand side, around the middle, find "Replaces Thing Id" - enter the original Id here - cWitDimens.

Change the ability's description text.

In the bottom-center, find the "Spellbook Bonus Spells" option, and click it.

Find the Blink entry in that list, and click its "Cond." button:

Phase: First, Priority: 500
count:Classes.Witch >= 6

Press the "Click to add another bootstrap" text, and find the magic circle spells, then check all 4 and press OK.

See how each of the other items in this table lists "Witch" in two different columns - set the same for these new spells.

On each of these new spells, press the "Cond." button, and copy everything that was in blink's Cond.

Delete the blink spell.

Press OK to leave this form. Save this item (ctrl-s) and save the file (file...save), then close the editor. (because you're dealing with a replacement, the "Test Now!" button isn't an option in this case).

Back in the main Hero Lab window, go to the Develop menu, and make sure that "Enable Data File Debugging" is checked there, then choose "Quick Reload Data Files" from that menu (or ctrl-r). Everything should be working now.

The file you created in the editor can be emailed to the rest of your play group - they'll just put it in the same folder, and then they'll get the same change in their copies of Hero Lab.

Silver Crusade Lone Wolf Development

If the editor won't let you save the item you've created, you'll unfortunately need to to a little bit of grunt work copying things. Press the "New (Blank)" button on the bottom left, and switch back and forth between the copy and the new one, copying everything exactly as it is. Then delete the one you created through "New (Copy)", and save the one you created through "New (Blank)".

There is at least one issue on the retina displays that is known at this point. I'm not aware of the specific problem you're reporting here, though. Then again, I'm not the Mac expert - that's Colen - and he's buried in the iPad code right now.

In any case, check out the thread below on our forums for one suggestion of something to try. You don't need to have an account to view the thread.
http://forums.wolflair.com/showthread.php?t=21834

If this doesn't solve things for you, let us know and we'll tear Colen away from the iPad code to look into this.

Hope this helps...

Nah, let him work on the iPad code, I'm looking forward to that for sure.

Liberty's Edge

Agreed. The iPad code is easily what I am looking forward to the most.

And for those a little disappointed on the lack of Andoid tablet support... given the impending release of the Microsoft Surface this Fall, I think a lot more disappointment is probably coming your way. The kind of people who are most likely to buy the Surface RT are Android tablet purchasers, or those who would tend to buy one. The kind of people most likely to buy a MS Surface Pro are users of Window laptops. Apple will easily survive the MS SurfaceRT. Will HP, Acer and Gateway survive The MS Surface Pro? Acer might, but I doubt HP and Gateway will.

If nothing else, the MS Surface is likely to make LoneWolf's future tablet development a lot easier.

How much dose this cost.

Grimmy, do you still run into the problem if you check the "run in low resolution" checkbox as described in this thread:

http://forums.wolflair.com/showthread.php?t=21834

?

Colen

That worked, thanks.

I don't know if its my imagination though, but it sure looked prettier without that selected.

Colen and Rob, thanks so much for pointing me to that thread, I'm loving having HL back up and running.

Is that a lot or a little grunt work?

It can be a bit of work, as you will have to cut-and-paste the values from each field one-by-one.

You will generally have better luck asking for help like this on Lone Wolf's Forums. The community is very active and helpful, in addition to the Lone Wolf staff.

Thanks!

Is there an update on the expected release date for UE?

"Coming Soon" is still the best estimate we have right now.

Liberty's Edge

Just keep at it Mathias. When it is done, I know that it will be great!

Liberty's Edge

I suppose that the "kits" ("Barbarian Kit", "Bard Kit", etc.) will probably be the hardest thing to convert considering all that goes in them....

Like Kevida, just keep pluging at it. I, for one, want it as polished as you can get it.
