The Temple Thief: Inquisitor Archetype

Homebrew and House Rules

A temple thief is the solo agent of secretive churches, sneaking roguishly in enemy lands to assassinate heretic chiefs and recover stolen holy treasures.

Holy Sneaker (Ex): At 3rd level, the witch hound gains the trapfinding ability just like a rogue of the same level. If the witch hound has levels in rogue or another class who gives trapfinding, these levels stack. This replaces solo tactics.
Rogue Talents: At 3rd level and every 3 levels thereafter (6th, 9th etc.), up to a maximum of 7 at 18th level. This replaces teamwork feats.

This archetype is similar to my Witch Hound, which gave an inquisitor some witch hexes. The teamwork feats are my last favorite part of the class and I liked the idea of a more "roguish" inquisitor. It's also similar to my Spellfilcher archetype, in the alternate magi thread.

Perhaps a unique ability?

And definitely a change to the spell-list. They should at least get Mage Hand and Silent Image!

I was thinking to the Concealment judgment from SGG Inquisitors' Judgements as a special ability.^^
Good idea with spells, I'll take a look on the list.

Ideas:

Swap Trapfinding for Monster Lore. Solo Tactics is so much more powerful than trapfinding.

Mmm... what if I give him the full Archivist ability? Would that be powerful enough?

Which part of it?

Right now, the Temple Thief gets half their level to perception to find traps and Disable Device. If you gave the Archivist ability, they'd lose those bonuses.

The Exchange

The way you described the archetype, it seems that they would get Sneak Attack, or a bonus when looking for Magical Items. Relic Sense would be a good name, and it could replace the Monster Lore ability. That might be going a bit far, but it would match the description better.

You know, the Witch Hound had the same problem. Solo Tactics was felt to be too powerful to replace it! On the other hand, Monster Lore is too good flavor for me to be replaced.
I was thinking to a specialized inquisition, but I'd like to keep choices open for the character...

What about this:

A temple thief is the solo agent of secretive churches, sneaking roguishly in enemy lands to assassinate heretic chiefs and recover stolen holy treasures.

Holy Sneaker (Ex): The temple thief adds Disable Device to his list of class abilities. He applies his Wisdom bonus (rather than his Dexterity bonus) to Disable Device checks and can use Disable Device to disarm magical traps like a rogue. This ability and Sacred Bandit replace Solo Tactics.
Judgments: The temple thief can use the Concealment judgment (from SGG's Inquisitors' Judgments). He can't use the Distruction judgment.
Sacred Bandit: At 3rd level, the temple thief can use sneak attack like a rogue with 1/2 of his level for a number of times a day equal to 3+ his Wisdom bonus.
Rogue Talents: At 3rd level and every 3 levels thereafter (6th, 9th etc.), the temple thief selects a rogue talent, up to a maximum of 6 at 18th level. At 12th level, he can select advanced rogue talents as well. The temple thief may replace the last rogue talent learned with another anytime a normal inquisitor might replace the last teamwork feat learned. This replaces teamwork feats.

And of course, I'll think to some spells to add to the list, maybe Aram Zey's spells, very fit for a rogue spellcaster...^^

The Exchange

What does Sacred Bandit replace?

Solo tactics.

Not all abilities of an archetype need to replace something. But in this case, Holy Sneaker mentions it.

The Exchange

Thanks Cheapy, missed that. It is still missing something, I can't really tell what yet. Maybe it has to do with spells, or proficiencies, but if I can come up something I'll let you know.

Thanks, any suggestion is welcome.
Maybe I could give Concealment as a bonus judgement rather than a replacing judgement?
I think to add these spell to the inquisitor's list too:

Aram Zey's focus (2), Aram Zey's trap ward (4), Aura of the unremarkable (3), Borrow skill (1), Mage hand (0), Open-Close (0), Oscure object (2), Persistent image (5), Pilfering hand (2), Shadow step (4), Silent image (1), Spiked pit (3),

The Exchange

Add Vanish(1), Invisibility (2), Invisible sphere (3), and Shadow Step (4) and you got yourself a great archetype! After all, how can you break in to temples to steal back your relic of Iomedae if you can be seen?

RPG Superstar 2013 Top 8

Question: "number of times per day" on Sacred Bandit: is that rounds per day or attacks per day? Also... weird name for that ability.

@Flak: Attacks per day.
@Tirq: Do you mean, adding just those three spells?

The Exchange

Well, there is four, but yes.

Ok, gone^^

I'll rename the archetype Temple Raider, in Harrison Ford's honor^^
