"Easy, my dear" says Edgar to Gabriel, sensing her fear.

As he tries to calm his own nerves after the scream, he hears Elthaslas trying to force open the door around the corner.

"Sounds like your kinsman may need some help. Follow me..." he says to Fanriel, leading her to where Elthaslas is trying to force open the door.

Female Elf Outlaw

Rather than return inside, Fanriel follows Edgar's lead and tries to help Elthaslas open the door.

Male Elf Seaman

Dolwen throws his weight into it as well.

did anyone see any windows or other entrances we can use? Elthaslas asks as they try to force the door.

I don't think this is going to work

M Dwarf Runebearer

Hanna & Rizzen:
"Inside? What of the creature that overcame the wall?" Interrupted mid-sentence by the disappearance of the light, Nargond heads back to the barn door.

Hanna calls back to Nargond, having gained the yard already, "Whatever it is, probably pales to what's brewing inside that inn. Hurry!"

She splashes across the yard towards the Inn's front door.

driving his shoulder into the stout wood door, Elthaslas is repulsed by the fine craftsmanship of the study inn door. Dowlen joins in with the efforts, only to be repulsed as well.

Rounding the corner, hanna and nargond rejoin the group on the front porch.

you do recall seeing narrow windows on the second floor.

The door is too sturdy. We won't be able to force it. Elthaslas says. Weren't there windows on the second floor? Maybe we could get in through one of them. Elthaslas goes back into the pouring rain and squints up at the building trying to see one of the windows on the upper floor.

perc 35: 1d100 ⇒ 52

I think the rain stopped.

"Damn and blast, we need to get in there and stop them from... " Hanna voice trails off "There might be a back door." and runs off around the Inn, splashing through the mud.

"I will always strive to write better" , 25 years gaming, 20 yrs DM

elthaslas does see the windows up top.

Halfling! Elthaslas call to Edgar shouting over the sound of the rain There is a window do you think you could fit through it. he says pointing to the window on the second floor.

Who can fit through the window?

M Dwarf Runebearer

Nargond shakes his head, then follows Hanna around the back. It's not worth taking the chance of one person being caught alone by whatever slipped over the wall.

Female Elf Outlaw

"What is out here?!" Fanriel whispers, somewhat frantically. "And did it sneak inside? We came outside to help, but there's quite a few unanswered questions."

Edgar follows his gesture, eyeing the size of the window, then the best route to climb.

"Aye, I think I can...just not sure about the climb" he shouts to the elf.

"Perhaps you could give me a wee boost up?" he says, indicating a hopefully sturdy drainpipe. "By the way, the name is Edgar, friend" he smiles at Elthaslas as he slings his bow across his back.

Edgar then. I will lift you up. Elthaslas bends down and cups his hands to enable Edgar to climb onto his shoulders.

huffing and puffing, Elthaslas finally is able to lift edgar up onto his shoulders and a final heave up to allow edgar the opportunity to grasp at the roof over the front porch.

The rain makes it hard for him to grip the ledge.

But finally, Edgar is able to grasp and heave himself up onto the roof of the porch.

edgar, the porch roof runs the length of the Inn. You have 5 windows to choose from. Counting from left to right, 1 thru 5, pick a number

Thanks for rolling for Edgar!

Edgar scrambles up, unslinging his bow and nocking an arrow once he gains his balance.

Scanning all five windows, he looks for the darkest one.

once he determines which one, he will approach cautiously, attempting to peer in

curtains block your sight as you attempt to peer into each window. a minute later elthaslas pulls himself up.

each window is pretty much the same from your POV

Seeing Edgar hesitating Elthaslas goes to the center window number 3 and attempts to open it.

str 31: 1d100 ⇒ 99 just in case I need one. anyone else coming up? I think I pulled my back.

Female Elf Outlaw

Fanriel continues to scan their surrounding, nervously looking up to see that Elthaslas and Edgar are in view. As soon as they find a way in, she intends to follow, so as not to be stuck outside.

Hanna runs to the rear of the Inn, frantically looking for a back door.

"I will always strive to write better" , 25 years gaming, 20 yrs DM

hanna rushes, and finds the back door. it too is barred shut.

elthaslas, try as he might cannot open the window. The fading light on the horizon through the thick trees reveal that the pins that hold the window shut are in place.

Female Elf Outlaw

Front door then, eh? Unless someone's keen on breaking stuff.

The Gods hate us. Elthaslas says in a resigned voice. He then attempts to kick the window in.

str 31: 1d100 ⇒ 55 I think I should get some bonuses on this roll considering I am trying to kick in a window not a door.

M Dwarf Runebearer

Breaking through a decently barred door would take minutes, at least. I suspect whatever's going on won't wait that long.

"Hmm. The front, then." Nargond again shakes his head, wondering once more why everything has to go wrong simultaneously, and then heads for the front door. Again.

Female Elf Outlaw

"We're heading back!" Fanriel tries to 'whisper loudly' up to Edgar. "Need someone to catch ya?"

Fanriel will try to help Edgar down, should he need it, then rush toward the front door behind Nargond.

"I will always strive to write better" , 25 years gaming, 20 yrs DM

what? and make this easy for you? lol

with a kick, elthaslas puts his booted foot through the flimsy glass pane. The tinkle of glass falling to the floor is muted from the large curtain that overhangs the entry. a musty smell like human BO emanates from the opening.

Elthaslas reaches through the broken pane and pulls the pins holding the window shut. He the opens the window and slips inside. He nocks and arrow to his bow as he looks around the room for something to use as a rope to help the others get up onto the porch and inside.

Sorry for the delay, guys. Life intervening in big way (work, if you must know!). I'm back, tho!

Edgar 'whispers loudly' right back down to Fanriel. "No, that is quite alright, my dear. Elthaslas and I will be going in the window..."

Edgar lets Elthaslas enter the middle window first. Once the elf is in the room, he reaches his bow into the window, drops it and the arrow gently onto the floor inside, and scrambles up and over the windowsill.

Gathering up his weapon, Edgar re-nocks the arrow and begins to scan the room, noting any doors.

Hanna stares disconsolantly at the barred door, then at Nargond's retreating back. With a heavy sigh, she runs back towards the front of the inn.

Female Elf Outlaw

With a quick nod to the halfling, Fanriel takes up a quick race toward the main doors of the inn. She's glad to see that the dwarf and peculiar nordland woman are doing the same.

a quick note Edgar and Elthaslas climbed up on the Inn's front porch. both the front and back doors to the Inn are barred. Fanriel was already at the Front doors, and I am not sure where Hanna, Nargond, and Dolwen are but I get the impression they are running laps around the building.

M Dwarf Runebearer

Well, we don't know the layout of the building, including back rooms etc. If we have to break our way in, we might as well at least not get lost doing it.

Female Elf Outlaw

Thanks Elthaslas, I had missed that.

Then could Fanriel climb the building at the corner beside the porch, rather than try the jump-then-pull-up method?

Discouraged to find that all of the doors seem locked, but not eager to be outside much longer, Fanriel wipes her hands try on the underside of her shirt and tries to climb up the corner of the inn and reach the porch above.

Have we gotten back around to the front, yet? Or anything else happened to stop/delay us?
