Usawoti wrote:

Ah! This'd be Knowledge (nature).

Usawoti wrote:
Usawoti is just matter-of-fact informing her, he doesn't care either way which she does.

Perfect! Thanks! I was having trouble understanding the underlying motives of the back-and-forth (I could see it being meant in several different ways, so I figured I should clarify).

Usawoti wrote:
how much time do we have to actually speak to her, the vortex seemed imminent

Well, you've, at least, got this round; even though I post what happens, below, you've a few moments to change your mind or say something different. Inarus will be gone in... four seconds ago. You can still hear him yelling back niceties to the lady, though...!

Inarus wrote:
I think it'd be knowledge nature.

Correct!

Inarus wrote:
But since I told the GM I'd be taking 10 for all knowledge checks, if I don't get any info, I'll just assume I failed the check.

Hurk~! Er, uh, yeah. Yeah, that... uh... that's totally... what... uh... hm.

(That is to say: I may totally need reminding sometimes. I can get distracted and forget, though I try not to. I'm running another game, got little sleep last night from Eldest son's leg cramps, and was very distracted today by Youngest son's runny diapers, and my own physical aches.)

... oooooooooooops. *nervous chuckle* (Sorry.)

Inarus wrote:
Not as if I'm a wizard with astronomical knowledge checks, anyway

!! Close e-daggum-'nough~! With a take 10 of 33 (or 34?), that's extremely impressive. DC 40 is stuff that's so esoteric, there's no reasonable way to know it, while 35 is so obscure that even the most sagacious of researchers and specialists who've spent lifetimes learning things may well be in the dark. You're auto-identifying CR 23 creatures - your character literally knows, without trying, about most anything you'd run into; you basically auto-identify even the mightiest non-unique forces in the omniverse. And you even auto-identify (after a brief glance without looking too hard) around 14 to 19 of those~! There are a total of ~27 unique creatures, and three non-unique creatures in print (at least of those on that page) that you can't auto-identify, and of those, only three - all unique - that might be beyond Inarus' ability to identify. At level 11. That's... more than astronomical enough, I'd say!

In any event, you'd both know that she's an alraune - a kind of plant creature that takes on the basic humanoid shape of a gender that the nearest creature likes. Usually eats creatures for sustenance, but then again, few things do not.

As Inarus is happily sucked into the hole, there's a brief moment of a view that looks kind of like and infinite, eternal sky, before the reality of the almost mirror-like walls slam into him (he takes no damage), and he bounces around for a bit.

Usawoti moves Mope a little closer to the storm, and informs the alraune - for that is clearly what she is - that she may come or go as she prefers, before (after brief resistance) also releasing himself into the vortex. Mope has exactly zero desires to enter that vortex, but... oh well. The horse flies for the second time in his life, and enjoys it about the same as the first.

Usawoti manages to hear, "why would anyone ever want to go in that-" as she desperately scrambles away from the portal, briefly trying (in vain) to catch either he or Mope, before her voice is no longer able to be heard above the wind. And only a moment later, she is gone.

He, too, briefly experiences the sensation of an infinite sky, before quickly being disabused of that notion by the mirror-like walls (in spectacularly painful fashion), slamming into himself, and sliding down the hallway after his now-draconic friend.

The winds rush through the tunnel roughly, and Inarus, Usawoti, and Mope all slam into the sides more than once, painfully (technically should be nonlethal damage, I... don't want to bother looking it up/calcuating based on size/power/etc.) but without any lasting or real damage. Both (together) can recognize the pattern the tunnels follow: "gluttony" and "air" in a spiky language written atop each other, with some of the tunneling probably wrapped about other, similar, tunnels saying different things.

After some time, they come to a rest, rather disoriented from their flight, the vortex continuing behind them, at least for now. The mild fog and its cloying scents of smoke with a heavy, heady sweet smell is back, but in full force. They all feel relatively hungry.

A big pair of smoke-like forms shifts before them.

"~͆͑͏̞mͣ̎̀̀͐E̜̼̣̭ͅa͠Ṱ͔̥̘̜ͨ̄ͤ̃͌̋ͣ~͆͑͏̞" says one with a voice filled with malevolence.

"M̰̘̣̤̽̔͌̄eͪ͂͐̈̊͒ͨAa̙̞̦T̨~͆͑͏̞!" agrees the second.

"m͙̟͎͖̠̊̈ͤ͆ͯu͍͕̣̺̲ͣ̃̎ͮ͆ͨr̭̣̲̥̟̥̍̓̄ͅd̠̠̼͉͍̤ͯͯͩ̐͐e̳͙̮̗͕̱ͅr͌ͮ̌̒͆~a̛̕ņ̶̕d́~è͘ át̷̸̢!" they say in unison.

As they do so, the air around them floods with the same fog, only much, much thicker.

Roll for initiative!

The tunnel is twenty feet across at its widest - a ten-foot-radius - but the floor is curved and slick. Acrobatics check, DC 15, to avoid falling if you at more than half land speed. You're both around fifteen feet from the two large-sized creatures made of swirling vapors. Twenty feet behind you (more or less), is this end of the vortex. The tunnel undulates up and down and twists side-to-side - apparently every thirty feet it is too twisted from your current location to clearly see.

The fog in the area provides a bit of haze (generating a 10% miss chance) for anything within fifteen feet, and concealment (20% miss chance) for anything further out; but it does not block line of effect, line of sight, or anything else.

Also, you are experiencing a non-magical poison effect. I need DC 25 fortitude saves; on a failure, you face an increasing series of effects (see below); on a success, you're only slightly dizzy (treat as "dazzled" condition, and as if under the effects of the lullaby spell) and immune to the effect for 1d2+1 of rounds.

The instant you fail a save, for that first round and the next (second round), you are intoxicated (treat as "sickened" condition); after those two rounds go through, you must make another save or suffer further intoxication for rounds three and four; on the fifth round, another save or else experience delusions (treat as "confused"); on the seventh round, you must make two saves - the first is a will save against continuing delusions (as above), and the second a fortitude against fatigue. In round nine, you must again make two saves: one will save against delusions (as above), and one fortitude save against exhaustion. On round eleven, you must make a fortitude save against falling into a deep slumber for 1d6+1 minutes. After that time is over, it must be made again: on a failure, you transition into a mostly-normal sleep effect for 1d4+1 hours.

If at any time you succeed at a fortitude save, you are reduced to mild dizziness (as noted on a "success") for two rounds before being forced to make those series of saves again.

I don't expect this battle to last long enough to make this all that important, but Usawoti's take-10 Heal is more than enough to beat the DC 25 to recognize this for the extremely potent version of a drug that it is; in fact, certain instances of the Quahs would even consider this a sacred substance to use, if they were about to undertake a vision quest or spirit journey - unfortunately, he's on a literal quest and physical journey: so.

Ah! Oops! ... still enough to identify the alraune, not to mention more than hitting up some pretty obscure things... (told you I needed reminders... XD).

Oh, and, after rechecking your sheet, you'd be able to know these are more or less "drug" elementals - they're a kind of poisonous and advanced variant of the basic air elemental ("greater" in this case) infused with more-potent-than-normal psychotropic substances generally taken in by breathing. Usowati, with that information mentally shared by Inarus, you can recognize that they, too, are at least somewhat affected by their own stuff (despite typical elemental immunity).

Inarus/Mort:
Is your heroism bonus included in that Intimidate check? What about your initiative/fortitude rolls? Also: how, exactly, is your fortitude that (relatively) low? You had solid dragon hit dice, as well as some bard hit dice, and a constitution. +5 dragon +5 constitution +5 bard should ~= +15? I'm going by memory, so I could be wrong... either way, it failed, it's just that it seemed a tad low to me.

"This is odd my friend, you are smelling the herbs we use to commune with the spirits. Apparently if misused this place would consider them gluttony."

Nodding in agreement, Usawoti steps in front of Mope as he pushes the horse back a little so he will not get in the way of the fight.

Bards have weak fort save - at level 11 its only a +3. I assumed the dragon bonus was a flat +8(as per pm), including all stat bonuses. So working on those calculations it would be +8(dragon)+3(bard)+2(heroism), total +13. Honestly in my body swop I gained a lot of things, and I did consider asking if the dragon bonuses included stats, but decided it would be greedy to do so, since I got a whole new slew of natural attacks, better stats etc.

I have no ranks in intimidate - so its cha bonus(+4) with further +2 for heroism?

Tailslap should also be at -5, because I don't have multi-attack feat. I think bite should be also a +19 base normally instead of + 20, since I don't have weapon focus (bite). Still, Inarus manages to land a solid claw through the twisting, churning creature that so recently harmed the dragon. The dragon gains the rather unusual sensation of raking claws through solid air, and the elemental screeches and leaks some of the very smoke from which it's made, only adding to the cloying fragrance and heady intoxicants all around.

EDIT: I checked, you're immune. I increased all of your attack-values by 1 as a result. Miss chance still applies, and the above is the outcome thereof.

I need to get them off of Inarus Seeing the two smoke monsters attack his friend, Usawoti slides to the side of the 'wounded one' "I will try and distract this one Inarus, let me know if you want me to heal you or use a hex, I seem to not be much help in this fight!" Don't worry about missing the nat 20. If elemental immunities apply, you can't crit em anyway.

Usawoti swings, missing because of the heady smoke and confusing shiftiness of the smoky fog in the room.

Though his teeth, one claw, and tail miss the wavery, slippery creatures, Inarus manages to strike a first claw and his jagged horns into the air element before him, releasing ever-more-fumes into the air no game effect, this is descriptive, and weakening the creature of air. The creature roars with each tear - the sound of a surging tornado combined with an odd hiss - and focuses on the insulting dragon all-the-more!

Their retaliatory slams simply slide off the slick armor and scales of the beasts, landing ringing blows that the dragon simply ignores. No damage dealt this round!

Both elementals glower.

They hate Inarus.

Inarus tears into the smoke monster, allowing its fuming essence to flood forth and fill the air with the sickly-sweet cloyingly greasy scent, missing only a final swap of the tail, due, mostly, to the creature's wavering under the deadly assault.

EDIT:You ninja-dragon-kitty-you! :P

Dragon bites the swirling cloud of vapor and it cracks like fine porcelain hitting a stone floor, as the swirling smoke simply poofs into the surrounding environs, the creature effectively dissipated, as Inarus simply consumes the remains with a great puff of air.

Though quickly turning his claws toward the other, it takes some time to get his rhythm as his claws and tail miss, though he manages to gore the air-like creature.

"D̷̙̠̞͉̱̱͓ͅE̬̞͇̕V̸̧̖͝O҉͈̦Ù̞͚͈̘R̵̴̟̰̜̞̙̙̠̙! I̺ ̡͙͓̩̖̕͠À̘̙̟͍͝Ç̪̻̪̻̞͢ͅC҉̷̬̭̗͔̦E̸͉̣͕P̵̧͓͓̥̲͙T̨͖͍̦̩͚̼ͅ!̧͔̜̦̣̠̜̖̱ it cries.

Upon it's words, a... darkening of some kind floods through it.

It attempts to slam into the dragon, but something interferes, at least with its first attack merely bouncing off a light barrier that briefly flashes into existence around Usawoti; the second hit, however, strikes true and slams, hard, into Inarus.

Seems magic circle just started to become effective against this guy, now, and it just successfully smote Inarus (take 10 Knowledge is enough to recognize a "Smite Good" effect, and that it just became a fiendish creature).

Congratulations Usawoti! You're back in the land of the dizzy!

What happens next depends on if Usawoti hits for ~40 points of damage. So. Choose from below as appropriate. You guys have hit with enough accuracy to have figured out: it's AC was 29, and is now 30.

40 damage hit:
As the shaman surges forward and slams into the elemental, it dissipates with a sudden burst, suddenly inhaling the roiling cloud!

Less damage hit:
The shaman slams into the creature, landing a solid blow against the solidified smog, but, despite its obvious weakness, the creature still stands.

The creature continues, desperate, now, at Inarus! It slams into him, but, despite the savage power it is now channeling, it's weakened by the force emanating from Usawoti, and merely clangs off the dragon's armor.

Not a hit:
The shaman hazes out and swings wildly, missing entirely.

Sssssssssssssoooooooooooooo I actually misrepresented the exact hp needed. Usawoti actually did it! But I'll count it as both of you for... reasons. Ignore the he killed it/hit it/didn't spoilers above. XD

That said: congratulations! You won a tough fight!

The shaman surges forward and slams into the elemental, working with his draconic ally to do the same, and it screaches in horrified agony.

"I̓͑̈́̾.̄̿ͣ͂͛.̾̅ͩ̇̊ͥ.̑ͩ̊ͥ ͆ͮ͂̈́ͧͧͧ̒Ḩ̶͡U҉̛Ņ͢.̸̴̸.̧̀. ͠G͓̳̼̠͎͚E̲̬̖R͉̪̥̣̟!͕̱͈͕̦̼͈ͅͅ" it says, before suddenly bursting into more of the fog.

The resultant cloud swirls, before the two heroes suddenly find they've inhaled the last puff of the creature.

Each of them feel a sharp flare on their body - in the place the star and mark appeared before - that settles into a dull aching hunger.

You each gain one total use of your "gluttony" ability gained from the gate. Inarus gains two.

The smoke is still lingering.

You hear a ringing sound, akin to the echoes of a muffled and whispered scream... which is exactly what it proves to be, as the massive thorn-vined flower from before slams into the hallway, vines desperately and fruitlessly scrabbling for purchase on the slick mirror-walls of the tunnel, the now-closed bloom rolling onto it's side near Usawoti.

A soft groaning sound can be heard from inside the only loosely-closed bud, as thick yellow liquid with a heavenly scent (minglinb well with the local stuff) drips out.

Usawoti sees the woman from above crumpled inside the bud of the flower.

Clearly, both flower and woman have seen better days.

The edge of one of the vines suddenly catches fire! It begins spreading towards the bulb of the flower, and the woman in the center.

As this happens, both Inarus and Usawoti feel a sudden, unpleasant tingle of primal magic passing across their skin.

"Usawoti! Can you create water? And I don't mean pee!" The dragon yells frantically, his forepaws flapping helplessly in the air, seeing the woman from above crumpled inside a bud of the flower, and the vines catching fire. ’Argh damn sh*t I can’t create water, and I don’t know if uprooting her from the vine is going to hurt more then it’d help…and I can’t leave her to die. Whether she’s some evil plant monster or not. Not if she hasn't done any harm.’ Then he hits on a bright idea. ’I may not be able to create water but I can summon something that can put out the fire.’

'Good thing Inarus is a dragon, I'm not sure we would have survived otherwise.' Seeing the smoke monster dissipate and feeling the brand change from a throb to an ache. Usawoti starts to ask "Inarus are you ok? Do you need healing..." hearing the muffled ringing screaming, Usawoti watches as the plant lady plops down in the tunnel, spooking Mope to final move to where Usawoti and the dragon are standing. 'Well at least Mope is learning to deal with Inarus, it's bad when the green armored dragon isn't the scariest thing around.' Usawoti stops daydreaming when Inarus asks about water. "Well yeah, I can. I mean I could if I prepared the right spell. But right now all I've got is lighting and fire, Why?" Looking from Inarus to the burning plantlady, Usawoti gives a knowing nod. "Oh, I see."

Once the water elementals have put out the fire, Inarus tries to stabilize the lady.

Waiting till his friend has calmed down a little, he looks from the burning plant lady to the dragon friend. "I told her if she wanted to talk to you that she would have to follow, you had already been sucked in by the vortex. Anyway, she must have known she would catch fire because she said we were insane for following. So it's really her own fault." Looking from the dragon friend back to the plant lady, he leans in closer to Inarus and covering hs mouth so the burning plant lady couldn't read his lips, whispers; "She is a plant person and traditionally an evil one to boot, she on the other side right? I wonder if Inarus is feeling well, How would you go about seeing if a dragon has a temperature.' Usawoti shrugs, being not really sure how to answer his friend. Id be ok to get wand heals, unfortunately I think we need to know if there's concentration checks involved before we try that - can we retcon the healing later? In a full primal magic zone we do NOT want to fiddle around with wands.

'I hope Inarus isn't delirious, I wonder how you would tell.' Usawoti smiles and nods to his green friend, he speaks slower and clearer, smiling while he does so, like one does when talking to a beloved elder who is no longer quite themselves. "There there now, Inarus, don't get yourself upset. I am only responsible for telling her you had left the jungle area on your way here. She is the one who tried to grab Mope and myself and she is the one who decided to follow us. It really isn't fair to her to take that responsibility away from her. She seemed like a competent evil flesh eating blood sucking plant and I don't think she would want us blaming ourselves for her decisions." nodding at the plant lady, "I'm sure if we need to get information from her there will be a way to do it. We both are able bodied casters and if nothing else when we find our elf friend he can help us figure out a way. You remember our elf friend Eravel don't you? We need to focus on finding him and my falcon Shuvuu."

Usawoti notices that Mope is starting to sniff and move a little toward the leaves that hadn't been burned, Usawoti pulls gently on the horses reins and offers him a carrot, to entice him away from the plant lady. "No no Mope, have a carrot instead, we don't know where she has stuck those roots."

"By passing judgement on an entire species just because generally the species are of certain depositions is dead wrong. Is it right to say that all half orcs are bad because orcs are generally evil? Is it right for the Shoanti to deny quah membership to anyone who isn't human? Or exile them from the clan, because they were raped by an orc?!" Inarus counters, his voice breaking a little. "And we can't choose what we're born as. Does that mean we deserve to face prejudice for the rest of our lives just because of what we are born as, whether we deserve our reputation or not?"

Inarus looks at Usawoti pull Mope away from the plant lady. 'Well at least that's a start. He didn't allow Mope to eat her up.'He softens his tone a little. "I can't compel you to do anything. But if you don't wish to heal her, at least let me bring her along with us. I don't want a wandering smoke monster to eat her up. She doesn't deserve that."

He goes to the plant lady and speaks. "I'm not sure if you can hear me. I am sorry that I can't really do much to help you. My magics do not work that way." 'And my healing wand has been destroyed in the Pit of Despair'He thinks to himself. "The best I can do for you is to see you to a safe place, so you can recover."

SPECIAL ABILITIES
Ageless (Ex)

A ravenous creature does not age as long as it is not starving.

Cannibalistic Healing (Ex)

So long as the ravenous creature has fed upon the flesh of its own kind within the last 24 hours, it has fast healing 10. Feeding on a creature of its own kind that was killed within the last hour heals all ability damage and ability drain the ravenous creature has taken.

Favored Prey (Ex)

A ravenous creature gains a +2 bonus on damage rolls against creatures and on Bluff, Perception, Sense Motive, and Survival checks towards creatures of the same type. Against a creature of its own kind, each of the bonuses increases to +4.

Hungry Frenzy (Ex)

A number of rounds per day equal to its Charisma modifier (minimum 1), a ravenous creature can enter a rage identical to a barbarian's rage ability. However, the rage only applies towards creatures of its own kind. If the ravenous creature is currently suffering the effects of starvation, the bonuses and penalties for the rage double, but the ravenous creature can no longer end the rage at will unless it eats enough to remove the nonlethal damage it has suffered from starvation.

If a ravenous creature has the rage ability from a different source, such as a racial ability or the barbarian class, it adds its Charisma modifier (minimum +0) to the number of rounds per day it can rage.

Hungry Special Attacks (Ex)

Any creature of the same kind as the ravenous creature takes a -2 penalty on saving throws against the ravenous creature's spells and special attacks.

Ice Shape (Su)

A young white dragon can shape ice and snow at will. This ability functions as stone shape, but only targeting ice and snow, not stone. A white dragon's caster level for this effect is equal to its Hit Dice.

Icewalking (Ex)

This ability works like the spider climb spell, but the surfaces the dragon climbs must be icy. The dragon can move across icy surfaces without penalty and does not need to make Acrobatics checks to run or charge on ice.

Ravenous Body (Ex)

A ravenous creature can eat other food, but only the flesh of its own kind satiates its hunger. It must feed upon the flesh of a creature of its own kind at least once every three days or it suffers the effects of starvation. When the ravenous creature's nonlethal damage due to starvation equals its Constitution score, it dies.

Snow Vision (Ex)

A very young white dragon learns to see perfectly well in snowy conditions. A white dragon does not suffer any penalties to Perception checks while in snow.

Sprint (Ex)

Once per hour, a ravenous creature can move at ten times its normal speed when it makes a charge.

NOTE: Inarus/Dishadraluongg are exceptionally vulnerable to its abilities. This is intentional. This is a very powerful creature, but Inarus/Dishadraluongg is also very powerful - I need to try not to overwhelm the PCs, but with the three PCs working together, this should be fine. If they lack unity, or are struggling, play up it's hunger-induced madness - make it functionally less wise than it might otherwise be, and decrease its fortitude saves due to starvation and weakness. Hungerfrost is currently suffering the Wendigo curse, and that very creature that cursed it will wait for the PCs to either stalk them, or see if they can survive long enough to open the way for it. Desperate for freedom, it will not actually attack them, if it has the chance to get free. Either way, Hungerfrost is nearly more animal than sentient creature, at present, driven mad by the various gluttonous airs and twisted curses placed upon it, not to mention it feeding on its own kind. Inarus, if you're reading this, you and your armor each take 12d6 force damage as exploding runes etch themselves onto your armor; reflex DC 25 for half for you, only.

Please have your character take Exploding Runes!: 12d6 ⇒ (5, 3, 6, 1, 3, 5, 6, 3, 2, 6, 5, 5) = 50 force damage, no save.

I would really hate to lose a PC to this. I'm just sayin'.

As Usawoti can't possibly roll an initiative high enough to go before the dragon, now that Inarus has made his valiant attempt, check the spoiler in the post above. Sorry, Inarus, I'm afraid that DC just doesn't cut it - 29 might have worked, but you're making a check at a significant penalty for the haste with which it was done. If you wish to fight defensively for the next minute, you can make it without that penalty, buuuuut... as it is, you're trying to accomplish it in 1/10 the normal time.

The dragon has a magic aura, maybe more than one.

The dragon breathes a cone of vile ice, and then immediately sets into Inarus with a savage fury and delight!
See the first and second spoilers above.
Aaaaaaaaaaalso... Usawoti's magic circle and weapon happen to be effective... I'm just saying... >.>

'Why did he do that? We're all dragons. Couldn't we have talked it out?' Even as his mind is in a whirl with the white dragon's actions, his trained reflexes kick in. Inarus somehow seems to duck completely out of the way of the icy breath and the white dragon's attacks bounce off his armor. His heart sinks as he realizes that the plant lady would not have survived that deadly blast. "You killed her! She never did you any harm! How could you!" Tears of anguish and rage flow from the dragon's eyes. "No more Mr Nice Guy!" He snarls savagely as his hindpaws begin to tap a pattern on the ground. "Die you foul fiend!" He unleashes a flurry of bite, claw, horn and tailslaps on the dragon.

Chose to do it this way, because I can't magic my weapon on the first round of combat and the DR/magic would negate most of my damage

GM - also I think there's a problem with the damage. 1d6d10? really? :P

"Kill him. That ravener deserves NO MERCY!" Inarus commands.

we got so busy discussing the flower we didn’t heal your wounds

’If It means that much I guess I could stabilize her for him’ Leading Mope along Usawoti begins to explain to Inarus, then he hears the noise coming down the hall and sees the white dragon. ’Oh crap, we got busy arguing and I never healed Inarus.’ Attempting to dodge the ice, Usawoti, focused on healing Inarus casts a cure spell to heal the green dragon.
