Isaac is about to say that the manticore should be stuffed for the crew to see, but everyone seems to insist that it gets hung in his office. He relents and helps in decapitating the monster and saving the body to possibly get parts to sell. To the enemy crew, he says, "As fer ye lot, yer lives shall be spared an' ye shall keep yer ship." When Captain Hamiyaz bows to him, Isaac nods his head at her in agreement and respect.
After two days, when the Shrike arrives at Tidewater Rock, Isaac aids in getting the ship to the dock. When Lady Smythee greets them and says she has bad news, Isaac says, "Greetin's, Lady Smythee. Wha' be th' bad news? Anythin' we can be resolvin'?"

Arhiel beams at Lady Smythee when she sees her. The days at sea were so distracting she didn't fully realize just how much she'd missed the older woman. It all hit her at once at the sight of her wife... and she was near tears of relief... Her heart sank when she heard that there was bad news though... and worry beset her.

Agasta smiles and takes Arhiel's hand as the group comes ashore. To Isaac, she says, "Perhaps you can help--but only if one of you is as good at healing as you are with a blade or spell. Come, I'll show you."
She leads anyone who's intrigued up to a small second-story room, where you see Mardus Siggs, the young man who'd asked about joining up with you, lying on a bed, drenched in sweat. There's a bloodstained bandage wrapped around one thigh, and his grandmother sits by his head, wiping his brow with a damp cloth. Lady Smythee says softly, "When Mardus was returning from herding the goats last night, he and Regis, one of my guards, were set upon by a band of sea devils--sahuagin. Regis managed to hold them off while Mardus made it inside, but ultimately Regis was killed and Mardus took this blow from a spear. The spearhead was barbed, and it seems like the wound may be infected. I'm worried that he might not last much longer..."

Looking Concerned Diana says That is Terrible news indeed, but think I can help Mardus at least. A brave young lad like that should not die of an infection! She gets to work, pulling out her healer's kit, cleans the wound, and casting some curative magic.

Diana cleans wound as best she can--she's not sure whether it will be enough, but you'll just have to wait and see. It is definitely infected, though. And the healer's kit does help. As she works on it, it becomes clear to her that the lad's leg also needs to be set properly; as it is now, it will heal crooked, and could leave him lame for the rest of his life. A separate heal check to reset the leg--again, healer's kit can help to build a splint, etc. A note about the healing magic: the infection is a disease, not hit point damage, so remove disease will help more than cure spells.
Lady Smythee watches, concerned, but then sighs as she sees that Diana has it well in hand. "Well, I'll leave you to it," she says, and turns to the rest of the group. "What news from the Fever Sea? It's nearly night now--will you be staying the night here?"

As you're leaving the room, Lady Smythee smiles at Arhiel. "Well, I'm glad to hear that you'll all be staying. Let's go let any of your crew that are staying with you inside...the guards who were out taking care of the goats should be back momentarily in any case." She leads you down the step-wise ladder and toward the front porch, opening the door with two guards at her side as she does so. You can see some of the keep's workers coming down toward the lagoon from the hills, lit up by the setting sun. Agasta is shaking her head. "Sometimes I worry about this place," she murmurs. "I fear--"
Her shout is cut off by one of the guards. Out in the lagoon, shapes are emerging from the water--and you recognize them instantly from the spines, crests, and toothy maws. Sahuagin! A group of eight rushes toward you out of the lagoon, brandishing tridents, ignoring the workers coming from the hills as they make for the door into the keep!
COMBAT! ROUND ONE
Surprised as you are by their emergence from the sea, the sahuagins' rush takes you all off-guard! The two guards crumple immediately under the rush of fishy bodies and stabbing tridents, and Agasta cries out in pain as one of the sahuagin rushes onto the stairs and stabs up at her, grazing her side. "Filth!" she cries. Two sahuagin at the back of the group raise crude crossbows, and Arhiel cries out in pain as their bolts bury themselves in her shoulder.
As you respond, the lead sahuagin roars, "Manpen yukai! Khaphachao samad husuk thoengkhuaam man!"
11 points of damage to Agasta, 6 to Arhiel, and the guards are down...but the party is up! I took my best guess as to where people might be standing.

One of the sahuagin snarls at Isaac over the guard's body. "Fool! All that lies above the waves is Krelloort's, and he will take back what you stole!"

Botting Diana and Jaina...
ROUND TWO!
Diana raises her morningstar as she strides forth. "Begone, sea scum!" Her words fill everyone with vigor as she blesses your party and jumps down into the surf. Jaina follows, grinning madly, and socks one of the sahuagin in the jaw. It spits out blood and hisses angrily at her!
Agasta, now covered by Diana, beats a hasty retreat into the keep, pulling out a potion as she does so. "Don't worry, I'll join you soon!" she says grimly. In the surf, the sahaugin close in on your group...
Isaac manages to fend off most of the attacks of the two that close in on him, but the one Jaina punched, clearly in a battle frenzy, lands a snapping bite on his shoulder! Jaina, focused on that one, doesn't notice another one scurrying up beside her until its trident pierces her side. Diana, shielded as she is by the waves themselves, holds two of the sea devils off while the two in the surf reload their crossbows and take aim at the only target on higher ground: Arhiel.
...but they're heavy crossbows so they don't actually fire this round! 2 damage to Isaac (who should really be at full hit points,
since several days have passed), 10 damage to Jaina, and you guys are up again!

As he says this, he swings his cutlass in a complex flourish, finishing with a spin over his head, trying to intimidate the monsters into cowardice.

Hi all. Diana is back. Seems you have found some action while I was away. :) A note on the ongoing spells and effects: believe Edward's Inspire Courage is at +2 now and it stacks with Diana's Bless except for the +1 morale bonus to fear saves. So in effect are +3 to hit, +2 damage and +1 on saves vs charm and fear.
Round 2 for me. Bless was was in Round 1

So, after far too long a delay...
ROUND THREE!
Jaina punches the nearest sahuagin in the mouth, leaving it to reel backward into the surf as she whips a quick but ineffective kick at the other beast. Edward and Arhiel begin casting arcane spells of protection and enchantment, while Diana clobbers one of the sahuagin with her morningstar. All of the sea devils are momentarily distracted, though, by Isaac's speech and the glittering, whirling cutlass that he wields. You see a brief flash of fear in their eyes...
But Agasta has quaffed her potion, and she draws her own cutlass now. Peering out over Edward's shoulder, she mutters, "Is there an opening out there? I'd rather not be made mincemeat, but no one attacks my f%%@ing home twice in a row like this!"
The sahuagin, meanwhile, have rallied, and are attacking again. The one that Diana struck stabs and snaps at her wildly, churning the water into froth, but she holds it off coolly with her shield; on the other side of the stairs into the keep, Isaac grunts in pain as his foe's trident pierces his side and he ducks under its jaws. As one of the sahuagin (blue) circles closer to the stairs, hemming Diana in, it glances upward...and freezes. "She wears it! She has it!" it cries to the others, pointing at Arhiel. "Take it! Seize it!" It tries to make good on its words by stabbing up at the sorceress, but Arhiel is shielded by the stairs. Diana beats back another assault in the surf, the sahuagin now eager to dispatch her and get to the stairs, but she can do nothing about the two sahuagin who let fly their crossbow bolts at Arhiel. One thuds into the doorframe behind her, while the other is deflected only by her recently conjured magical armor...
Isaac takes 8 points of damage, and the party's up!

ROUND FOUR!
One of the sahuagin suddenly slumps into the surf as Edward's spell knocks him unconscious; the other staggers, but remains upright. Not for long, though; Diana's morningstar caves his skull in. Edward and Isaac both bring blades to bear on the sea devils, but they're both deflected--Ed's by the keep's doorframe, and Isaac's by the beast's tough, scaly hide. Jains comes to Arhiel's aid as well and, though her first blow falls just short, manages to land a mighty punch on the scaly creature's head, eliciting a roar of pain!
Agasta, cutlass drawn, pushes past Edward and Arhiel's onto the stairs. The sahuagin below stabs her in the thigh as she rushes past and leaps into the surf to stand next to Isaac, but she barely seems to feel it. She hacks at the sea devil there--not without skill, but it's hide still proves too tough for her blade.
The beast retaliates and, as though magnetized, its trident finds Isaac's flesh once more. It snaps at Agasta, but is clearly distracted by the greater threat. On the far side of the stairs, the roaring sahuagin turns toward Jaina and, enraged, sinks its trident into her leg. She's stabbed in the back as well, and Diana takes a blow to her side, as the two sahuagin with crossbows pitch them aside in frustration and charge in with hissing roars!

ROUND FIVE!
Jaina puts down the sahuagin next to her when her second blow connects, and you can all feel the tide of the battle turning. Isaac decapitates his foe, and Diana brings her morningstar down on the head of the newcomer behind her. Arhiel's missiles finish that beast off, and there are only two left--one of whom is unconscious! Agasta, scowling, sloshes through the surf toward that foe, circling to pin it against the stairs between her and Jaina. "You dare attack my home!" she snarls. She swings the sword at the creature, but it barely even notices the blade get turned aside by its scaly hide. It stabs up at Jaina once more, roaring--and its trident punches right through Jaina's armor and into her chest! The ifrit woman collapses and the creature smiles toothily up at Arhiel.
Jaina takes a brutal blow for 20 points of damage and is unconscious! The party's up! Act fast!

The sahuagin blinks, and mostly looks nonplussed at Edward's flailing attempt at a threat that probably doesn't translate well...but then Arhiel's missiles slam into it, and Isaac, coming at it from the side, leaps forward and beheads it. It crumples into the surf, and Diana rushes to heal Jaina, who blinks and awakens as her wounds close up.
COMBAT OVER!
Royster McCleagh clatters down the stairs just as the fight is coming to an end, breathing hard and wild-eyed. "Milady!! Are you alright?!"
"I'm fine, Royster," Agasta says, scowling and sheathing her cutlass. "Though feeling a little useless...I'm afraid that I can't say the same for Roderick and Cavass out here, though. But it looks like they'll live, as long as we get them some healing quickly." She winces and clasps her own wound as the effects of the potion fade from her body.
In addition to the two unconscious guards, one sahuagin who was caught by Edward's sleep spell remains slumped against the steps, limbs bobbing slightly in the push and pull of the tides...

Diana will quickly attend to the two wounded guards with Cure Light spells trying to attend to the most wounded first, it that is something she can immediately identify.
Cure Light 1: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Cure Light 2: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
Once no one is in danger of dying she will cast more healing spells, starting with Agasta and then Jaina.

She thinks about it a bit then looks at her relatively new armband... "Could this be it? this bauble? It doesn't look that special.... but if it is, probably best to keep it out of their hands."

Isaac looks at Arhiel and at the armband. "Hmm... Not sur'. Bu' we shall be gettin' our answ'rs. Tie 'im up! I wan' to be findin' ou' why they be attackin' us!" He goes to aid Diana in aiding the guards and finding rope to tie the sahuagin. He turns to Agasta. "Ar' ye alrigh'? Anythin' we can be doin' to clean up?"

The two guards, with similar wounds (both stabilized at the exact same HP, funnily enough) recover quickly under Diana's ministrations, and limp back into the keep under Royster's watchful eye. Agasta, however, waves off the offer of healing. "I'm not that bad off. Tend to Jaina; she's had it worse than me." Turning to Isaac, she adds, "Thanks to you, there was no actual loss of life in this raid--which is more than I can say for yesterday's attack. You have my thanks, and as soon as we pitch these carcasses back into the surf you'll have the best meal we can whip up. Beyond that...I, too, would like to know what these scum-suckers were doing attacking my home!"
Disposing of the bodies is a swift and simple task, as is tying up (and transporting inside, I assume) the unconscious sahuagin. Once you're all inside for the night, you go to check on him. He's just regaining consciousness and, as his orange eyes blink open, he thrashes and squirms against his bonds, letting out a roaring hiss.
"RRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAARRRRRRGH! Releasse me! Let me go, you filth!"

"Agasta, I'm sorry if my desiring a pretty bauble brought them here... you said they attacked yesterday too? And there were losses? I'm so sorry... who? ... and we will have to keep a good lookout... they will probably be back, and perhaps in greater numbers, since they did not get what they sought." She sighs and runs her fingers over the armband. "Maybe this would be best not to wear openly for a while. They did seem to know where to look for it, even when I wasn't here. I'm not sure how we can store it so they won't be drawn to it. Otherwise, we'll have to kill them all, perhaps seek them out in their lair, but since we don't breathe water, that might be problematic."
