"Hmm," Kessel says, "I may be able to cause a distraction, supposing you're able to take these two out quick, but they're not likely to remain interesting in the lute once the blades come out."
"They'll never know what hit 'em." Magnus whispers in reply from the shadows, freezing into stillness as first the lantern light, then the guard's voice filter down from above.
Keeping his eyes shaded by the brim of his hat, Magnus eyes the quickest way up to join the guards, in case Kessel can't convince them to come down here.
Heh, I'm seeing a scene from Star Wars now. "Hey buddy, come give me a hand with this!" :)

The guard who spoke begins walking to the stairway. His companion also starts heading to the top of the stairs. Light from the bullseye lanterns stab out here and there among the stacked crates.
"Paulua! Sound off mon! You playin' some joke I'll get one of the saugs to bite your stupid ass!"
Kessel Cobey |
"Hello?" Kessel says stepping into the light, "Was it me you heard? Is Paulua your greeter? He went back to mind the door. Me, on the other hand, I'm coming through to give my respects to Jemerae."
Kessel shows his hands as he slowly approaches.
"Very keen ears you have," Kessel says, "Though I wasn't sneaking, few people can hear me when I don't want to be heard. Color me impressed. I must say though, keen ears, spotlight . . ."
Kessel careful pulls out his lute,
"I can't help but feel inspired."
Kessel gently strums away on his lute, attempting to fascinate the two guards:
Each creature within range receives a Will save (DC 10 + 1/2 the bard's level + the bard's Cha modifier) to negate the effect. If a creature's saving throw succeeds, the bard cannot attempt to fascinate that creature again for 24 hours. If its saving throw fails, the creature sits quietly and observes the performance for as long as the bard continues to maintain it. While fascinated, a target takes a –4 penalty on all skill checks made as reactions, such as Perception checks. Any potential threat to the target allows the target to make a new saving throw against the effect. Any obvious threat, such as someone drawing a weapon, casting a spell, or aiming a weapon at the target, automatically breaks the effect.

1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 131d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
The two guards stare fascinated at Kessel, mouths slack with a vacant pleased look
Ok. I think that anyone approaching them besides Kessel would allow them another snap out roll. However, a successful Stealth roll vs their diminished Perception will allow you to get within striking distance of them without breaking the fascination
Magnus Darkenstar |
Magnus will follow San's example. Taking 10 on stealth gives me a 21.
Noting San's slow, cautious approach to the mesmerized guards, Magnus follows his fellow magical warriors example and moves ever so slowly and silently towards the guards. His noiseless approach gives credence to the stories of the elves famous stealthiness.
Don't want San facing two at once when they snap out of it! :)

As Egan's arrow flies, Magnus' rapier flies and flashes, quick as a snake he has taken two jabs at the guard as well, one of the strikes flashing with magical energy.
Full attack, regular strike and Spellstrike with Arcane Mark
Att 1 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 161d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Att 2 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 251d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Confirm crit for att 2 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
Erm, presuming not? Less he has a low/flat foot AC? If so 2X Dmg for Att 2 = 12pts

The guards are just in regular clothes and FF right now so that does crit
[Magnus' flashing blade draws a second smile along the second guard's neck. He chokes out a gush of blood and collapses on the floor[/i]
The warehouse is again silent. The party can see a door near the landing they are at. A small sign on it reads 'offices' and it is painted with the eschuteon of House Akkavin. It seems to be the only door, the only other thing is the walkway the two guards had been patrolling above the main part of the warehouse
Magnus Darkenstar |
Magnus gives Kessel a thumbs up and a smile, salutes the corpses, flicks some drops of blood from his blade and returns it to it's scabbard in a swift motion.
He mimes dragging the bodies to behind nearby crates, and bends over to grab the shoulders of the man he and Egan took down, careful to pick up the guard's shoulders from behind so the man's blood doesn't get on his clothing.
After quietly placing the bodies where thy can't be seen easily, he glances to the door labeled 'offices'. He looks at the others, points to the office door and the walkway above.
"Which way now? The Low road or the High road?" He whispers with his usual grin.

San:
"We cannot risk detection at this sensitive ... Snaavrak has promised ... The Hidden Fin stands ... "
"Strangers have come ... Questions about ... Can't risk Opalline involvement "
"Question the newcomers ... Jemerae and a few fins... Keep it quiet. "
Magnus Darkenstar |
Sorry, busy. (As usual) I think we have an accord? :)
Magnus flexes his fingers to loosen them. He listens to see if the people inside sound as if they might be coming out.
So, do we wait for them to exit and tag them as the leave the room? Or introduce ourselves? :) Magnus votes for introducing ourselves. :D
Magnus Darkenstar |
Lol! Plan 'A' it is then! :) So San leads with a Web, followed by Magnus and Felicia who head straight to flanking positions, follow that with the usual (beating things into submission). Hoping to take at least a prisoner to get some answers. Sound right? ;)
With a grin, Magnus throws open the door, bowing for Sanvoros to precede him.

The door is thrown open by Magnus, revealing a large room with a round table in the center. The men sit at it. One is dressed in fine clothing, with the sigil of House Akkavin worked into the breast. Another is a muscular Eastern Islander, dressed in half plate and carrying a large sword. A third looks to be a local. Dressed as a prosperous merchant, with the slightly pop-eyed look the party has seen about town.
Along the wall half a dozen men stand. Eastern Islanders and Opalline. They start as the door swings open, then reach for their weapons
