Realizing how tough his opponents are, Barnabus will strike the leader and Intimidating Glare one of the other two as a move action!
Strike: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27
Damage: 1d4 + 11 ⇒ (2) + 11 = 13

It was stated that Barnabus would have two rounds before a couple of us showed up, so I thought I'd go ahead and post my action for the 3rd round.

Wesh walks into The God's Revel Inn to witness... a brawl? Momentarily confused, Wesh quickly recovers when he sees the dwarf from earlier.

Gods take me if I let a dwarf beat me to the Captain.

Still, the dwarf seemed to be outnumbered and Wesh didn't think the Captain would take kindly to someone who was unwilling to work with others.

With that thought in mind, Wesh begrudgingly decides to join the dwarf in the fight against the others.

No swords for this fight, I guess.

Having assessed the fight, Wesh moves to flank the rightmost half-orc.

Move action (if possible) to flank the rightmost half-orc. Standard action to unarmed strike that half-orc.

Unarmed Strike: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14 (+3 BAB, +4 Dex, +2 from flanking
Damage (Non-lethal): 1d3 ⇒ 2 and
Sneak Attack: 2d6 ⇒ (3, 4) = 7

If the attack hits, Wesh will accompany the blow with the Bewildered Debilitating Injury. (-2 to AC, -4 to AC for Wesh)

Initiative: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11

Dhavyn skidded to a stop at the sight of the brawl going on before him. He let out a small snort of amusement as he contemplated how to get past all of them. He gave a shrug and decided simplicity was the way to go. So he drew some sand of various colors mixed together from his pouch, spoke a few words and blew it towards the combatants.

Assuming he could clear a path, he then hurried to the meeting point.

Color Spray, 15' cone should get everyone, Will Save DC 16. Not actively trying to avoid splashing my potentially soon-to-be-allies except for Barnabus, since Dhavyn hasn't had any interaction with Wesh. Sorry Wesh!

Initiative: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22

Barnabus connects again on Huldren with a vicious counter knocking the man out cold. As Dhavyn sprints by he unleashes a combination of different sands that make mystifying colors. The Half Orc on the left of Barnabus slumps over stunned, the one standing half orc narrowly dodges Welsh's attack and lands a glancing blow on Barnabus hoping to get vengeance for his leader.

Will Save: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (3) + 0 = 3
Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17

Will Save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8

Wesh frowns as his blow misses the half-orc. Before he has a chance to act again, the Undine man he had seen before appears nearby, draws something from his pocket, and blows it in the direction of the brawl. In the direction of Wesh...

Wait, what..., is all Wesh has time to think before he is overwhelmed by the spray of colors. All goes black and Wesh can't seem to get himself to move no matter how hard he tries.

Color Spray's effects for a creature with 3 or 4 HD:

Dhavyn glanced back and was mildly surprised to the see what he thought were the results of his spell - everyone down except for Barnabus! He looked pleased with himself and hurried along, tossing back. "Are you coming, Barnabus? You were moving so fast earlier!" He let out a small laugh.

I apologize for the confusion, the other half orc is down as well. So Huldren is out could and the other two are currently stunned. Barnabus don't pay attention to that last 3 points of nonlethal. Dhavyn it will take you one more round to get the top, Barnabus it will take you two. Dain you appear at the door at the top of the initiative so now. You should roll initiative to see where you land in the order. Currently it is Dhavyn Barnabus Welsh.

Do you climb up the stairs, Dhavyn, Barnabus? Also, Capricia you appear with Dain so roll initiative if you do not mind.

Yup! I sort of indicated that previously, <grin>, but to make certain...

Dhavyn kept on moving, determined to be the first to arrive, or barring that tied with Barnabus for 'first'. He glanced back at Dain and called out, "Hurry, hurry, or you'll be late!" He let out a small chuckle.

Outside of the tavern a small crowd of racers have gathered discussing the fighting going on inside and obviously leary of plunging into a brawl. Capricia ignores them and flips on through and is just in time to see the last half orc spit on the floor and wordlessly turn away grabbing each of his companions by the collar and hauling them away to the side of the room.

As Capricia enters a bald heavily tattooed man stands from the shadows of the small stairwell which Dhavyn is climbing and grunts to draw the groups attention,

"You'll do," he raps his chest with his knuckles, "Yamtisy, Bowson. Good fight. Up here," so saying he turns and heads upstairs.

Assuming you will all follow

The Bowson heads over to a table taking a seat putting his feet up and thrusting forward an open ledger, filled with rows of scrawled signatures and marks. He nods to a quill and looks up expectantly. A cursory inspection reveals it to be a crew manifest, and it seems to be more a place to keep track of share entitlements than a contract.

Five minutes later Captain Lanteri strides in with a cocked pistol rammed painfully into the base of a familiar half orc's neck, "People tell me this vermin and his friends impersonated my crew and earned themselves a thrashing. So me and Squealer here had a little conversation and decided it would only be fair if he and his fatheaded cronies handed over all of their valuables to the victors as a little apology. Hand them over Squealer."

Gritting his teeth in pain the half orc limps forward and places a bundle of items at your feet.

Capricia enters the tavern with a flourish, and when the bosun Yamtisy announces himself, she jogs up to him, does a polite and graceful half-bow, and extends a hand.

"Capricia Belacrest-Maxeme, at your service." Assuming the half-orc shakes her hand, she grins mischievously and points out to the others, "Technically, lads, it appears I was first to reach Captain Lanteri's bosun!"

* * * At the Table * * *

"The promised reward was an officer's share, correct?" Capricia asks before signing the contract. She makes sure that she's getting such a share before putting quill to paper.

* * * When Capt. Lanteri Enters * * *

"She's the sort of captain I can see myself serving under without reservation."

The cocky pirate lass makes no move toward the pile of loot, however.

Shoving the beaten orc out the door by the face, she pulls a thin, light green handkerchief from a vest pocket, wiping the muzzle and looking you all over as you plunder the goods.

"Rounds on me...but we'll need a new table." Her drunken bosun rolls her eyes and takes an extraordinarily long time to pick the crew manifest and herself out of a sloth of extreme comfort, heading upstairs.

Lanteri strides strongly forward with an aura of confidence, and its hard to not feel her attention. "So, heard of the treasure yet? I imagine you might have some questions before signing on..."

The crew manifest lies open on the table, with a quill and ink ready nearby waiting. A quick perusal reveals it to be a pseudo-legal document, binding you to the service of Captain Lanteri for the duration of recovery of Redclaw's treasure. Your are to be "boarders and repellers" with board, grub, and grog along with a "non-negotiable" 1/16th share of the booty.

"Patience isn't a virtue I believe in. I want to get back to the sea. Still, I understand you might want more information about what this is all about. Now is your chance."

A few full bottles of dark rum are brought in.

Capricia likewise offers her hand to the captain with a smile, introducing herself. "Though I belong to the Maxeme family, I've no loyalty to their fleet, at least not yet. I'm on a bit of a sabbatical on the high seas before I head back to Little Oppara to reunite with my kin."

Capricia fires off a list of the ships she's served aboard over the past couple of years. She adds that she apprenticed as a carpenter aboard one such vessel and owns a set of top-quality carpentry tools. She also confesses that she's nearsighted and would make a poor choice to man the crow's nest.

Again, she holds off signing the manifest until she sees if any of her new shipmates will question just how 'non-negotiable' the non-negotiable 1/16th shares are.

Dhayvn kept heading up the stairs, giving a nod to the bosun that introduced himself. He rolled his eyes at Capricia with her antics and long-windedness. He glanced at Barnabus and Dain, shaking his head. He didn't respond otherwise to her claim to being first or anything else she spouted off about, mostly ignoring her in favor of focusing on the bosun and the captain.

"A pleasure to meet you both. I look forward to this treasure hunt. I am Dhavyn Stormborn." He paused and saw the name on the treasure in the manifest. "I'll sign up but I would like to know a bit more about the treasure we are seeking, how long of a journey does it look to be, do you know of anyone or anything guarding the treasure, etc? Any information can be helpful if we are to serve alongside you properly."

He went ahead and signed his name regardless, however. Then he began looking over the loot and splitting it up in to equal shares - and looking to the captain to see if she expected one - for himself, Barnabus, and Wesh since they were the only ones involved in the fight after all.

He noticed the rum and gave a little shudder, still not fully recovered from his earlier drinking contest binge and after-effects.

Oops--forgot this earlier.

Lore (Shackles Pirate Captains/Lords--Jemma Redclaw): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22

She notices your glance and reassures you, I need none of this plunder, consider it a signing bonus as you will. Smirking at Dhavyn she lowers her voice and draws in closer "Redclaw...aye...A scourge of the seas from years past. She was a relentless fighter—she even replaced her arm with a claw of red metal...Numerian-like. Her ship, the Fearsome Tide, seemed able to sail indefinitely and was never seen in port. They say she amassed quite a trove of gold, art, and even magic. Once she disappeared, most assumed her treasure was lost. But now I know how to find it. I don't know of any guardians per say but I am sure a few exist. There are some things we must do before we set sail so I know not the length of our journey but it will not be too long of a voyage.

"You don’t make captain of any ship without making a few enemies. My husband he told some friends about Captain Redclaw’s treasure before he met me. Now that he’s passed, his so-called friends, or whatever scum they’ve told about it, may well come to take what’s rightfully mine! Not to mention that even though the Magpie Princess was already half mine, a few argued I shouldn’t take it upon my husband’s death. Some argued... strenuously. We’ve dealt with most of them, but there’s a featherbrain or two who still mean me harm...'

Dain signs the manifest and then examines the magic items.
Spellcraft (Amulet): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30
Spellcraft (Amulet): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26
Spellcraft (Spear): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11 Drat.

I believe Dain can identify the potions without rolling Spellcraft? What does he detect?

Both amulets are amulets of nat armor +1, you have to identify them somehow I thought, I know perception and spell craft both work for potions.

Wesh recovered from the color spray spell and found himself firmly at the rear of the small party now following the captain to her quarters. Thoroughly humiliated, Wesh would likely have walked out of the place then and there if not for his need for income... and perhaps a bit of redemption.

As they proceeded up the stairs, Wesh stared fiercely at Dhavyn's back. It was the Undine who had sealed Wesh's fate and humiliated him in front of everyone else. If Dhayvn were to turn around, Wesh would soften his expression and nod in acknowledgment at the Undine's gaze.

I have enough enemies as it is. I don't need to make new ones, Wesh thinks to himself.

Once inside the room with the Captain and the others, Wesh sees an opportunity to be useful after listening to the Captain and the others.

Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14 To identify the potions
Appraise: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11 To identify the value of the items.

After his once again feeble attempts at impressing the Captain and the others, Wesh decides it is time for him to join in on the conversation.

"What do you know about these so-called friends? Any weaknesses we could exploit?"

Wesh glances down at the manifests and notes that Capricia had yet to sign it. He also notices that some of the others seemed to recognize each other. Were they friends from before? He felt like even more of a loner now.

"What sort of guardians do you think we'll encounter? The way you describe it, it doesn't sound like it'll be too difficult. I know from experience that first impressions are rarely true, though, so I want to know what we're up against. We need all of the details so we can properly prepare before setting sail."

"For what it's worth, like Capricia, I'm accustomed to sailing with pirate crews, so I'm sure I can be a valuable resource to your ship. This will be one of dozens that I've sailed on."
Bluff: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (14) + 10 = 24

Lanteri glances at you as you begin speaking, she looks you up and down after you finish. "One of dozens is it, well I would love to have one as experienced as you on my ship," she takes a sarcastic tone. "Not many weaknesses that I can think of, names Hyrix Snowfeather, a tengu used to be a jinx eater, led a mutiny on my ship, he is skilled with spell and sword." She shakes her head, "Enough talk about that bird brain, I know not the guardians we may face but I am unworried. I need extra muscle for that reason and it is why you are being offered a large sum of gold to stand on a ship and hit things."

Sense Motive: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29
Appraise is item by item isn't it? Nothing on the potions btw

Capricia glances at Wesh as the captain sees through his exaggerations, amusement dancing in her eyes briefly before she turns them toward the crew manifest. Knowing that Yamtisy is an officer aboard the Magpie Princess, the redhead scans the document to see if the bosun's down for a 1/16th share and then checks what a regular crewman is due. If things seem to be on the up-and-up, she signs her name.

Dhavyn nodded to the captain's dismissal of the 'plunder'. It had been only prudent to check. He was just joining her crew, after all. He listened as she spoke up about Redclaw, the woman, the myth and her treasure. He soaked it all up, nodding slowly. The arm sounded very interesting indeed, but theoretically they would be dealing with guardians leftover and not the pirate herself.

"You say she disappeared? Not killed or her ship was sank or anything, but...disappeared?" He frowned as an uncomfortable thought hit him that they might have to deal with Redclaw after all, or a version of her. He kept that quiet for the moment, as there was no sense in bringing it up without proof.

"So there will be others after the treasure and/or you as well. Disappointing but not surprising."

He glanced at Wesh but then looked back to the captain and suppressed a chuckle. He saw the joke now in using the term 'featherbrain' earlier. He took the Tengu's name and made a mental note, thinking if he had heard of him before, but the name didn't ring any bells.

Barnabus, in his fatigued stated, climbs the stairs and then follows the party and the Captain. He has bruises and welts all over his body from the brawl. The dwarf clasps Dhavyn's shoulder as they walk and when the undine looks back, he mouths a "thank you" to him. He moves to the manifest and marks a "BB" on the manifest as his signature. Wesh can't help but blush. His bluff had been called and he was left with nothing to vouch for his abilities. At least, nothing he was willing to tell the others about. He didn't know what spies Taldor might have. Even this far abroad, there was always a chance word could get back to Taldor of his whereabouts. If that were to happen, he would be forced to run once again. That was something he didn't want to do.

"How many folks do you have crewing your ship?" Capricia asks, hoping to get a better feeling for whether a 1/16th share is indeed what an officer gets. "And are there any shipmates we may want to give a wide berth to?"

I want you reporting clean and sober. We have some work to do before we set sail so you will have time to settle your affairs."

Dhavyn gave Barnabus a respectful nod in return, a small smile fleetingly slipping across his lips.

He cast Detect Magic and looked over the spear and then the two remaining potions indicated by Dain. His eyes lit up a bit as he looked over the spear and one of the potions, seeming to indicate he could tell what they were possibly.

He glanced at Capricia and shrugged. "I have some limited ability to cast healing spells, though that is not my primary focus usually. Are you injured?"

Hmm. Large crew. Big ship?" He was a little disappointed that they were told to forgo the rest of the festival, but the prospect of work and then treasure-hunting thrilled him!

He picked up one of the amulets, glancing inquiring at Barnabus and Dain for any objection before donning it.

Dhavyn could toss in 200 gp towards a wand.

I also suggest we sell most if not all of the non-magic stuff and divvy that up. I leave it to the group if they want to include Capricia and Dain in that split since they weren't in the fight, lol.

Perhaps some of the gold from selling unwanted loot can go toward the wand of cure light wounds.

If the loot's being shared by all--even those not in the fight--Capricia would be interested in a sap (mwk or normal), 1 or more of the tanglefoot bags, a potion of CMW for emergencies, and one of the amulets (she's built to be mobile in combat, and would lose the ability to use Acrobatics to dodge AoOs if she were to wear medium armor, so one of those amulets is on her to-buy list in the future).

Capricia nods politely as Wesh and Dain introduce themselves. Both seem quite well-spoken for pirates...rather like herself. When Dain announces that he's a mage of some sort, Capricia realizes he'll be someone she'll be protecting if and when combat breaks out. Wesh, however...he's a bit of an enigma at present. Perhaps he's someone she'll be swordfighting alongside, at least judging from the four short swords he's armed with. That makes her decision easier....

"I've got a heavy sailor's chest of gear back at the inn where I'm staying," she announces to all, though her eyes are on Wesh. "Would you be so kind as to help me carry the damned thing here? I'll repay your kindness by buying you supper and a few drinks."

Wesh stares at Capricia for a moment with a dumbfounded look on his face.

Aren't you... uh... taken? Wesh thinks to himself, remembering the two men who had accompanied Capricia for a time. Perhaps he had misjudged their intentions or perhaps it was just Capricia he had misjudged. Always best to make the most of every opportunity, no matter how unexpected an opportunity might be.

With a nod, Wesh says, "I'd be happy to assist you, milady. Your company is the only compensation I need. And if there's anyone buying supper and drinks, it's me."

"No, no--I'll be paying for tonight's meal in appreciation and recompense for your physical labor in lugging that chest of mine across town," Capricia replies. "If you have any strength left after that and can still bear my company, perhaps you could treat me to dinner tomorrow night...unless the Captain will be making us eat aboard her ship."

Not being one to push the subject, believing it to be rude to continue insisting on paying, Wesh replies, "Very well. I will hold you to dinner tomorrow night, though, assuming the Captain doesn't have other plans for us. If this chest of yours is as heavy as you say, we'd best get started right away."

Wesh motions toward the door for Capricia to lead the way. He glances over at the others, but figures they can choose their own path.

You have a couple land days. Dhavyn I am assuming you sign, I don't think you have stated it yet.

"That's that then. Enjoy your last free night." Lanteri winks."Come morning, crew will gather just north of here, on the short piers...there's still plenty to be done before we set sail for the treasure." She pauses for a moment and then continues, "I'll be at the Sturdy Seawall should you need something." Yamtisy hurriedly rolls the scroll and snatches the quill, like the annoyed little accountant she is, grumpily stomping half-wasted after her captain into the afternoon streets.

If you want to role play some here freely go ahead, tell me when you wish to move on and we can push to tomorrow.

Dhavyn gave a nod of respect to the captain as he bade them farewell.

He turned to Barnabus and Wesh. "Well then. Shall we go see about offloading some of this loot and divvying up the cash then?" He smirked at Wesh, "Though it seems like you other plans already, so I guess we shall have to catch up with you later for your share." He opened his mouth to ask which inn Wesh was staying at and then dismissed it. "Come to think of it, I suppose we will just see you in the morning when we all gather to start helping with whatever chores the captain has for us to get the ship ready."

Dhavyn's plan is go try and sell the stuff that they won't be using and then get the money split up in to pouches to hand out (depending on whether it's to all five or just the three involved in the fight). And yes, he is planning on being honest about it since he will be sailing with them for the short term at least, cheating your allies is bad form and can make for a quick death.

My previous post a couple days back must've gotten eaten; here's the gist of it.

Capricia's sailor's chest must weigh 100 lbs. on its own, not counting the 40 or so pounds of equipment stored inside it. With Wesh's help, however, the two new crewmates manage to stagger with it through the streets of Lilywhite to the God's Revel Inn. The redhead stops briefly at a shop en route to buy a grappling hook, just to be safe. She allows Wesh to peek at the chest's contents at this time in case he notices something crucial she's lacking. (The chest and its contents are on Capricia's character sheet under this alias.)

Once the pair reaches the inn and drags the locker to the room(s) Captain Lanteri's provided, Capricia decides to chat a bit.

"I notice you have an affinity for short swords," she comments. "Do you dual-wield them?" After letting Wesh answer, she draws her own weapon--a gleaming falcata--and readies a buckler on her off-forearm. "I employ a style called rondelero, quite popular in distant Taldor. I wouldn't yet call myself a master, but I'm dangerous enough, I guess. Are you ready for supper and some drinks? You've earned your reward."

Between Capricia and Wesh, the heavy chest somehow makes it all the way to the God's Revel Inn.

Muscles are most definitely not my strongest physical trait, Wesh thinks to himself as the pair finally set the chest down in one of the inn's rooms.

Normally, Wesh would have redirected questions about himself to other topics, but Capricia seemed a decent sort and the two would have to work together, so it seemed unwise to unnecessarily antagonize her.

"I do indeed dual-wield them. I figure if I can't hit an opponent with one, I'll at least be able to do so with the other. Their size also fits my fighting style."

At the mention of Taldor, Wesh's calm facade melts and his face hardens. Even in the Shackles, his past somehow managed to continue haunting him.

"Interesting name that: rondelero. Are you from Taldor?"

Wesh waits for Capricia's response then says, "I think supper and drinks would be good. I'm famished after lugging that chest all the way here."

I think it's probably best I keep an eye on you, anyway. Less chance of you wandering off and making contact with a Taldan handler.

As Wesh accompanies Capricia to the inn's common room, it's the drinks he's looking forward to more than the supper. If Taldan agents were nearby, he wanted to savor his last night of freedom. Perhaps followers of the Drunken Hero weren't so loony after all.
