Hal weaved back from the skeletal soldiers then back in again, his fists lashing out at the skeletons as they opened their defenses with their strikes.

Striking out with determined fury, Halister's attacks strike hard against the plate armor of the skeletal champions but seem to have no effect.

The Skeletons have an AC of 23, so Hall needs to roll a 13+ to be able to do damage, unless I am missing something. I may not be clear on all the bonuses every9one is applying, but I am sure that everyone gets a +1 from Atheressa's insper courage ability, and a +1 from Bless

In a fit of rage, Miagnik steps into the battle zone and channels a blast of flame into the Drowned Maidens and one of the armored skeletons

Hallister manages to land a damaging blow on one of the injured Skeletons knocking it to the floor

Mae lies on the floor. Her breathing is slow and labored, and she appears to dying

Windel shouts for all the help he can call forth and another healing wave of energy flows through the party

With this help, Maelodakh coughs hard, and seems to improve somewhat, but remains unconscious

And then there is another explosion of cold

This time, Hal didn't have any enemies to dodge behind when the blast hit. His whole body was suddenly covered in small cuts from shards of frozen bone and a thin layer of frost.

He was pissed. Mae didn't look like she could take another blast like that. "Get clear, and get Mae out of the blast zone! I'll hold her off!

Moving adjacent to the Drowned Maiden and readying my action to attack once Mae is safely around the corner.

Dodging to the side, Miagnik was able to sheild himself just enough to where the lat blast of icy cold did not harm him past his heat aura.

He wanted to burn the Maiden, make her explode into an icy pile of nothing. But Hallister got in the way and shouted about protecting Mae.

He knew he could, he wanted to end it, but his friends might not survive his anger this time.

"Graagh, fine, do it Hal!"

Picking up Mae's unconscious body and throwing her over his shoulders, Miagnik through himself past his allies. He made it to the corner where he swung Mae's body around the edge and looked back at Hal before shouting "Now!"

Picking up Mae and moving to D51, then dropping Mae's body to D50.

Round 5, wrap up

The corner is filled again with a blast of cold sea, wind and ice assault the heroes, but Hallister will not relent, and he presses forward shouting for the others to retreat before the inevitable.

Rownig is pelted with frozen brine, leaving small cuts across his face. Nearly blinded the rogue has no choice left but to flee and he staggers away unsure of where he is headed he finds himself in the opposite corner of the turn in the passageway just as Stephanie gets to her feet, and with his last strength he shoves her into Atharessa’s arms as the dwarven maid turns and runs.

Miagnik grabs Mae and struggles with all his strength to reach the corner and some protection form the large stone door in the event their is another freezing blast.

Moralane runs to stand next to Hallister, dropping her bow and drawing her sword she aims to run the maiden through.

Moralane's attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14

Her sword is blocked by the Drowned Maiden's scimitar

Round 6...

Hallister strikes the maiden with his axe, but the blow is not enough to destroy the monster.

The air is still, cold, and quiet, everyone seems to be alive, and for the moment, alright.

A sense of doom seems to hang in the air, a feeling of hopelessness and confusion.

And then Atharessa looks at Miagnik, notices how his thin dark hair is frozen straight back away from his face, and she points, stifles a giggle, and then laughs out loud uproariously.

Hal stomped over to Mae's unconscious body like a thundercloud, snow drifting off of him in little flurries. "Windel, wake her up so I can knock her out again."

Miagnik lets out a low breath that was easily visible in the chilled room. Glancing back he saw that everyone seemed to be alive. His joints were cold, face body covered in a thin layer of frost.

The giggling turned to laughter made him spin to look back at Atharessa. He stared at her for a moment as Moralane made her observation.

"What?" he asked looking at her directly.

Windel begins to pry and he lays his healing hands on Miagnik.

Moralane stifles an outburst of laughter when Miagnik turns to face her and she sees that he is outlined in frost.

When Windel has aided Miagnik, the goblins normal fiery disposition begins to return and the frost begins to melt away.

Stephanie helps Maelodakh to her feet, and turns to the others with a look of determination mingled with self loathing and says as clearly as she can

Stephanie says
I recognized one of those frozen female corpses. We defeated once a while ago, and she exploded then. I, I just forgot that for the moment. Now I know that those three will be back. I don't know when, but I know they will be. We need answers, answers to questions we should have asked when we had the chance, and I'll be damned if I'll let Hall, or any of the rest of you stop me from going back and asking them now. I'm taking Mae with me, and we will hurry as best we can. When we return I Will use a spell to try and find the rest of you, but until we return my advice is for the rest of you to press on, as far and as wide as you can to clear out any of Omara's followers on this level, scout out the next level if you can. If we have the right information we know that Omara is not supposed to be back for another five days. If we can upset her base here as much as possible, be ready for her when she returns, take her down, then, if I can get back with the answers I need, we might be able to hunt down this queen, and face her and her maidens for the last time. Good luck, Rownig, Windel, Hallister, Miagnik, Moralane and Atharessa, I will find you. I hope to return before Omara does.

With that, Stephanie cloaks herself and Mea in protective spells and leaves.

Hal nodded briskly, still too angry to give a proper goodbye. "Thanks. Good luck." was all he managed to say.

He looked at Miagnik seeming like he was about to give the goblin an earful, but he didn't. In stead he took a deep breath.

"Row an' me, we're good at getting out of the way of explosions and stuff like that. Catching us in the blast of whatever hell you start tossin' around is good strategy as long as you can catch more o' the enemy than us."

"We're the only ones who can be taking that kind of risk though. You damn near got Mae and Stephanie just now."

"We need you t' be more careful. We all need t' be more careful. There was no reason at all for that fight to have gone the way it did. We had the bottleneck. We had the bend in the hall as cover. We could've gotten through that fight without a scratch if we'd played it smarter."

Windel rocks back and forth on his heels, a bit antsy as the royalty departs. He snorts then places a finger on the side of his nose and blows the nasties out. "Well I'm a bit short on the heal'n, but I can convert some of me spells to help individuals out. I've got plenty 'ol scrolls to help with though."

The abruptness with both Stephanie and Maelodakh leaving left Miagnik feeling a little shocked and left him with barely enough time to form any words to say.

"Wait I- Just... be careful both of you. Mae, don't you let anything happen Stephanie. And Stephanie rein Mae in a little. I can't be there to pull you both out of the fire if anything happens."

After the two of them left he felt the group was dimmer somehow. But at the same time, with Stephanie's task he felt renewed somehow as the remaining members of the group planned what to do next.

Looking down at the ring on his finger he listened as the rest of the group stated what they had left. "I've got a little healing stored from the other day still in here. I'm not out of magic either.

I suppose the middle would be best."

"I dunno. Mae's lit me on fire as many time as 'Nik has." Hal said lighting a pipe and exhaling with a sigh. He was on edge still but his nerves were calming. "We ready to move?"

Rownig pulls out another cigar and lights some tindertwig. He puffs a few times. He smiles as the leafy smoke fills his lungs, then pulls his twin handaxes. he flicks off some chunks and twirls them. "Ready."

Miagnik nodded and he looked back at the other two. He figured that Atharessa would probably be fine but he wondered if Moralane would be just as distressed with Stephanie's leaving as he was.

"You can say that again, Windel. I'm ready to go. What about you two?"

I’d prefer not to hang around here any longer myself, Moralane says to no one in particular, and then she turns to Hallister and asks Do you think Stephanie was right? If one of those creatures was the same one we fought last week and it came back then does that mean that no matter what we do these will come back as well?

And then Moralane turns and stares at Stephanie as she moves away.

Atharessa chasses after Stephanie and catches her before she gets too far down the passageway. The large girl picks up the small goblin wizard in her arms and hugs her close, and then as she sets her down Atharessa whispers something into Stephanie’s ear. Stephanie looks around the girl, back down the passageway toward Moralane and blushes.

Then she whispers something into Atharessa’s ear. And the dwarf turns away with one hand still stretching out behind her to Stephanie’s hand until they finally let go of each other.

Atharessa returns to Moralane’s side and stands next to her and as the two of them watch Stephanie and Maelodakh fade into the darkness of the passageway Atharessa leans over to Moralane and says

She said she knows, and it’s okay. She hopes she will see you when she returns and then you both can talk about it.

Moralane blushes and stammers out the words, I, I didn’t, she doesn’t, it’s not like, but we don’t. Oh just shut your face,
