Still need a reflex save from Elsabeth to avoid falling into the pit. Also feel free to heal Markas (and Elsabeth if needed before moving on
Daniloth has a +10 (+12 to avoid getting lost) survival skill, so if he takes 10 and with the assist you are providing already it's easy for him to navigate through the labyrinth
With Daniloth taking the lead you manage to stick to the "main" path And avoid running into another pit trap on one of the side tracks
You finally make it out of the cramped passageways and into a clearing. The web-covered trees here are still as ominous as they were in the labyrinth and dead leaves cover the ground. A few hundred yards beyond, a low hill bare of any vegetation rises from the sea of green. But what catches your attention is a man in tattered clothes laboriously crawling in your direction.

Daniloth holds a finder to his mouth, suggesting that the group should be quiet. He then points to a nearby bush and circles around it while preparing his two short swords.

"Thank you my friend for tending to my wounds."
Markas follows the lead of Daniloth and whispers to the party, "Daniloth sees something, everyone quiet."

@Daniloth;In order to go into stealth you either need a distraction or be unobserved at the time, since the creature is watching you it notices you starting to move to the side and trying to hide and it knows where you are.
As Daniloth starts to indicate something is going on and starts to sneakily move to the side the creature flees (unless you use magic to catch it it will get away due to a head start and being able to climb among the trees)
The man on the floor has one last spasm before he stops twitching and is motionless now, face down on the floor.
Daniloth Winterglen |
"Well, I blew that," Daniloth says. "I saw a hideous purple creature with the face of a spider, but its hands were sickle-shaped claws. I thought it meant us harm."
Revvy Bitterleaf |
As Molos approaches the human he doesn't spot anything of interest with his magical vision...
..he does how ever quickly find out that the area in front of the human was hiding a web filled concealed pit trap.
DC 20 reflex save to avoid, or become entangled inside the webs (no damage)
Revvy Bitterleaf |
As Molos struggles around in the web some small spiders start to climb down from the trees and emerge from the nearby webs.
As you take a closer look ..you can see a few more move down and start to move towards you...followed by even more..
You have a few (you estimate 3) rounds...after that there will be a _lot_ of small spiders near you, who will be swarming all over you
Markas Songsteel |
"Someone cut him free quickly, we don't need to wait and see how many of those spiders show up." Markas moves towards the web with Molos and draws his scimitar to hack at the webs.
Any kind of roll needed here?
Seijiro Saketa |
"I have an alchemist fire which should burn the webs away, but I'm afraid it would hurt Molos too... " He refrains from throwing it, waiting for Markas to cut the webs.
Molos Voren |
"Throw the fire. I'll be okay," the tiefling orders, trusting his fiendish heritage to save him. Meanwhile, he pulls his own flask of alchemist's fire and tosses it at the webs and spiders rushing toward him.
Since I'm in the webs, I don't think I have to roll to hit them, do i?
Seijiro Saketa |
Seijiro waits until Molos' fire does it's damage, then throws his own alchemist's fire, not wanting them to augment each other by being thrown at the same time.
alch. fire dmg: 1d6 ⇒ 4
Revvy Bitterleaf |
@Markas you'd need a to hit and damage roll to cut Molos free ..but I think that unless you roll a 1 to hit and automatically miss your attack combined with both alchemist fires is enough to free Molos. @Molos..I actually think you'd still need a to hit, but not sure what could happen when you manage to miss..other then to splash yourself..which you are already doing
Working together you manage to destroy enough of the webs (and set a few tiny spiders ablaze) to get Molos out (all though it does deal him 2 fire damage from 2 splashes of alchemist fire) and the smell of burning, well....Molos seems to be masking the phermones a bit..but spiders are still gathering
You can run away now..or take 2 rounds to prepare to fight a swarm. Moving away now will still count as defeating this encounter
Fronar Gossamar |
@Molos - aren't you a tiefling? tiefling's have resistance to fire as a racial trait... unless you replaced it somehow.
"If it makes anyone feel better, I'll embellish the number of spiders when I retell our adventure at the inn over a pint!"
Molos Voren |
I thought the DM was saying I take two fire damage after my fire resistance 5 was taken into effect. If I'm wrong, please let me know, DM, because I do have Fire Resistance 5.
Seijiro Saketa |
Seijiro moves away, having no interest in fighting a swarm of spiders of any size. "Good idea, Molos..."
Revvy Bitterleaf |
The DM did not take into account any fire resistance because he totally overlooked that..so good tactics with hitting yourself with flaming oil ;)
As you guys move away in a tactical retreat which does not resemble you running away from a bunch of itsy bitsy spiders at all... you move in the only available direction
Past the glade, the gaping mouth of a tunnel opens into a bleak, cairn-like mound. Down the dark passageway, you find a grisly scene.
The tunnel opens into a large cavern. Thick layers of sagging webs choke the room from floor to ceiling. Beyond the mass of tangles, jade flames burn about a rough pyramid-shaped dais, bathing the whole chamber in an eldritch green glow.
Gruesome carcasses and human-sized cocoons dangle from ghastly strands. In places, walls are covered with worn-out bas-reliefs and faded markings. The air smells of dust, decay, and death
Beside that this reveals the nature of this unholy place it further tells that, though obviously inhabited by some kind of web-spinning pests, this shrine hasn’t seen any formal worship to Mazmezz in at least a hundred years.
Giant webbings obstruct some areas. The map shows the location of these web patches. Moving across one such square requires a DC 8 Escape Artist or DC 12 Strength check.
The strange creature that Daniloth spotted outside watching you is inside here as well..and it seems hostile.

Seijiro moves forward toward the north, but not so far as to enter into the webs... he readies an attack if the creature comes close enough to be struck.

I'm assuming Molos and Elsabeth are readying attacks? Since the creature is approximately 100 feet away lol.
Markas tries to get closer to the creature, all while avoiding the many webs located in the room.
Markas double moves (60 ft). Position on map updated.
Revvy Bitterleaf |
Elsabeth moves closer and I'm agreeing with Markas on this readies to attack the creature should it come into range
Seijiro does the same
And Molos moves forward and readies to throw some magical snowball should the creature come close enough to be hit (snowball has a range of close..which is 30 ft at your lvl..not enough to hit it..also you'd need to move quite a bit to get a clear line of fire at the creature
Fronar remembers some stuff about the area ..and the creature you are facing
(this is an ettercap; it has an poisones bite, can make webs like a spider..if rather good at getting spiders to do what it wants and is known touse traps)
Markas double times forward towards the creature

Daniloth,Fronar (knowledge checks at seeing stuff are as far as I know not an action) - readied attacks from Elsabeth, Molos, Seijiro

Elsabeth moves closer to the ettercap and as soon as she passes Markas a giant block of stone set it self loose from the ceiling and swings at her on a piece of rope! It rushes down to smash her into a bloody pulp (But because this is tier 1-2) but then the rope snaps and the block lands a few feet away, smashed into rubble instead of landing on top of her and smashing into her
NPC-ing Daniloth in to move things forward
Daniloth double moves forward
The ettercap moves forward and sling a view pieces of silk like strands at Elsabeth

but she is easily able to step aside at the web like substance lands at her feet
