GM Granta |
Kavor makes it across safely, giving Farlen a false sense of confidence. He tries to cross more quickly, splitting the board completely. As he starts to fall, Kavor . . .
Yes, there is plenty of space to jump. The gap is 10 ft. at the widest point. Anybody who has an Acrobatics penalty needs to roll, the rest can just move across.
Kavor Doan |
Shouting a single arcane word, Kavor Doan slows Farlen's descent and the other wizard floats to the ground.
Farlen Mizzul |
"I knew I liked having dwarves around. Thanks for the lift. That really might have hurt."
Anything interesting in the is crevice? Does it look difficult to climb out?perception: 1d20 ⇒ 3
"How about a hand up for this fat a** wizard?
Tahltria |
Watching the board crack under the weight of the dwarf she looks on disapprovingly. "Next..time..us..first..dwarf." She backs up and then effortlessly leaps over the crack to the other side landing on her feet.
on my phone can someone move my token to the other side please
Kavor Doan |
Although he usually gets along with elves, the dwarf takes offense at Tahltria's attitude.
"Don't pretend to be in charge. I'll act as I see fit, as will you. You were free to cross before me and chose not to."
Kavor lowers down his rope to assist Farlen out of the hole.
Tahltria |
Rather than answering back Tahltria remains quiet when Kavor snaps at her. Her face gives no indication if Kavor's words injure her rather she turns her back on the gap and let's Farlen help Kavor up ready to move on.
GM Granta |
Kavor helps Farlen up, and the rest of the party jumps across safely.
"I'm so sorry," Heryn says, "Is everyone okay? We'll get you a stiff shot when we go back upstairs. That'll make everything good."
Heryn leads everyone into the wine racks, "We are looking for the Barrowwood Estates Cabernet Sauvignon, 4690 AR. I think the label was dark purple."
"Found it!" Kavor shouts, but when he tries to take the bottle off the rack, it doesn't move. Instead, a secret door opens in the back wall. Heryn backs away in surprise, "Umm . . . I don't know what that is. You should make sure it's safe. You've been trained, right?"
After a short tunnel, you see a small room with a desk covered in papers. The room lit by a glowing stone above the desk, with four dark tunnels leading away.
Akter and Tahtlria check the tunnels, while the three casters move up to examine the desk and its contents. Before they can search in earnest, scrabbling and scritching sounds come from the tunnels.

- Kavor
- Spiders
- Althera
- Akter
- Farlen
- Tahltria
Kavor is up.
Farlen Mizzul |
Farlen grunts a little and starts up out of the crack using the rope from Kavor.
I think climbing with rope is a bonus but ... can I take 10?
If not climb with rope: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Oh well. if i didn't make it, i will knot the rope and try again.
climb knotted rope: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15
Kavor Doan |
"Spiders! Nothing we can't handle."
The dwarf concentrates, and his axe shimmers with arcane power. Gripping it in both hands, he strikes.
attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
damage: 1d8 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 4 + 1 = 6
Akter Phruse |
Akter proceeds to attack the spider in front of him with his longsword, swinging as he hoped the Dwarf was right.
Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7 Impressive!
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10 Oh that does it. I keep wasting my best rolls! :D
GM Granta |
@Farlen: It was DC 5 with the rope, DC 3 with Kavor's aid.
Touch Attack (blue): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
Round 1
Effects none
Kavor manages to connect with the spider around the corner, but without enough strength behind the swing to crack its hard skin. Both spiders spit webbing at the people in front of them. Akter manages to dodge and take a hasty swing at the creature, but Tahltria gets caught in the webbing.
@Tahltria: You are entangled, and must make a DC 12 Reflex save or be glued to the floor as well.
Althera, Farlen and Tahltria are up.
Farlen Mizzul |
Farlen climbs onto the desk to get a clear shot and fires an acid bolt at the spider Kavor hit(red one i think).
touch attack with acid bolt: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
damage : 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
i assumed desk was difficult terrain, but might need roll. I also need movement help. I am on my phone. Thanks.
Althera |
Althera takes a quick step to get behind her allies. She utters a brief incantation and sends a bolt of blue force against the "red" spider.
Magic Missile: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Sorry, thought I had gotten that as a wand. I'll check my paper sheets later, but my online one shows that I got a CLW instead.
Tahltria |
Reflex save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
Tahltria reacts too slow to dodge all the webbing that spews out of the spider's abdomen but she instinctively turns her body enough so that the webbing does not completely immobilize her.
Stepping towards the spider she draws Dirgesinger and all through the tunnel the hollow mournful sound cries forth. Thinking nothing of it she swings at the spider.
If someone could move me 5ft please to be face to face with the red...now dead spider sorry I'm on my phone
Elven curved blade swing+entangled: 1d20 + 3 - 2 ⇒ (18) + 3 - 2 = 19
damage: 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Crit confirm: 1d20 + 3 - 2 ⇒ (19) + 3 - 2 = 20
damage: 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
GM Granta |
@Farlen: Kavor attacked (and missed) blue, but you have a clearer shot at red. Climbing the desk is a move action, but no check required.
@Tahltria: Double check your math. I think your attack bonus should be higher.
Round 2
Effects none
Farlen conjures a handful of acid and nearly hits the spider with it. Althera sends a concussive wave or air into the creatures legs, twisting one completely backwards. Tahltria lumbers forward and thrusts her sword several feet into the spider's body, then draws it out dripping ichor everywhere.
Kavor is up.
Kavor Doan |
A 17 missed? These things are tough. I do have True Strike if I need it.
The wizard again summons arcane power into his axe.
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21
Damage: 1d8 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 4 + 1 = 13
GM Granta |
@Tahltria: Duh! I forgot my own entangle.
@Kavor: You were swinging around a hard corner.
Round 2-3
Effects none
Kavor moves into the tunnel and severs several of the spiders legs, knocking the creature completely off balance as it tries to bite back at the dwarf.
Everybody is up.
Farlen Mizzul |
Farlen with no chance of hitting the spider through the crowd jumps down and moves to help Tahltria get out of the webbing.
"Thank you for taking that spiders web for me. I could have sworn it was shooting at me. With your permission I will help get you out."
Farlen starts the rip away the strands binding her.
i guess Farlen can aid her in a strength check??? Or cutt away at the bonds with a crossbow bolt head.
Tahltria |
Tahltria starts trying to furiously rip the webbing off of herself and says nothing when Farlen comes to aid her. When he thanks her all she does is grunt and continue ripping at the webbing.
Strength check+caught in web: 1d20 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (19) + 2 - 4 = 17
GM Granta |
@Farlen: Aid strength check or deal damage with a slashing weapon.
@Akter: You aren't in melee, so changed to bow attack.
Round 3
Effects none
Farlen comes over to help Tahltria out of her predicament, and she easily escapes with his help. Althera's bolt of compressed energy strikes the spider right between the eyes, whipping its head backward. Akter tries to shoot an arrow down the hallway, but in the end he can't find a clear line of sight past Kavor, and simply fires into the ceiling praying for a ricochet.
Kavor is up.
Kavor Doan |
"Fall, vermin! The axes of the dwarves are upon you!"
Another mighty two-handed Arcane Strike.
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
damage: 1d8 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 4 + 1 = 10
Farlen Mizzul |
"Holy Hatchets, Kavor! If you hadn't saved my behind with that spell earlier I'd think you were pulling my leg about being a wizard. Your a weapon weilding warrior that's for sure."
Farlen knods to the lady Althera. "Nice."
Glacing around, Farlen asks, "We're all clear, right? What have we stumbled into here?
Kavor Doan |
"Well Farlen, between the spells, the axe, and my natural Dwarven charm, it's good to have many ways to approach a problem. Living as long as we do, I'm always amazed that more of my fellows don't get bored doing the same thing over and over again.
Conspiracies in the Society! Should we report this, or investigate on our own?"
As I have played this one before, I'll follow the lead of those who haven't when it comes to these decisions.
Farlen Mizzul |
"Either way Drenge ain't getting any wine. We should let him know." "But maybe he knew that sending 5 people to fetch wine."
i have also played this on standard. I will defer also.
Althera |
Althera returns Farlen's nod. As the second spider perishes she takes a moment to smooth out her skirts.
As the group discovers the letters, she furrows her brow and speaks after a moment.
"Well, these letters must be quite old. Given that, the trail probably won't grow too much colder if we report back first."
"The gnome Fimbrik could still be among us. And perhaps we can find out about the masoleum or even the three folks named in the second letter. I can't say I have a strong preference, but if we're to visit leads first, I'm better at dealing with the living than the dead."
First thought, report back. Otherwise try to find Fimbrik.
GM Granta |
For the sake of keeping things moving, let's go find Fimbrik.
It takes a little while to find Fimbrik's house, and night has fallen.
Farlen Mizzul |
Farlen heads for the front door.
[b] "Let's see if he will answer the door." "I can always ask about admittance to the Arcanarium or such."
If no one objects, Farlen will knock sharply an listen.
Perception at door: 1d20 ⇒ 7
Farlen Mizzul |
"Let's look around outside of the place. Is there a back door or another way in?" " He may be away as the papers might indicate."
Farlen starts to walk the perimeter of the home.
Akter Phruse |
While Farlen went to circle the house, Akter advanced towards the door to exhamine it - first for traps, and then to check how complex it'd be to pick the lock.
Perception (Traps): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
Not sure what else to roll :)
Althera |
Althera hangs back a bit, waiting to see what results from the scouting of the house.
"I'm not sure if we should expect trouble, but once you've checked the place out I'm happy to speak to Fimbrik, assuming he's here."
Farlen Mizzul |
Farlen approaches the window and taps the pain waiting to see the guards reaction and to possibly communicate that they should go to the door. Farlen will mime talking with his hand in front of his mouth and point in the direction of the front door.
Kavor Doan |
Kavor Doan will cast Detect Magic and scan the area. This being a wizard's house, after all.
If any auras are found:
Knowledge Arcana: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Tahltria |
Tahltria looks as everyone moves about trying to determine if the house had been abandoned. When she sees Farlen trying to communicate to someone or some people through the window relaxes a little bit. Maybe this time she wouldn't need to stick her boot through the door. She thought that unlikely but just in case she started walking towards the door.
Kavor Doan |
"Althera, Farlen, there is a magical aura here I can't identify. Care to take a look?"
As to the other auras:
Knowledge Arcana: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16
Knowledge Arcana: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
Farlen Mizzul |
"I can see people through this window, but they don't seem to react to anything I do. One might even be Fimbrick." "This is odd. Did you just detect magic on the whole place?"
Farlen will detect magic at the window and the room beyond (if possible through the window).
Farlen Mizzul |
"I'm getting 3 auras. I will see if I can figure out their type."
spellcraft on aura: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25
Farlen will concentrate until he gets a shot at the aura type and strength.
Do you want 3 rolls or is the one for all three auras?
Althera |
Althera will cast detect magic and attempt to decipher any remaining unknown auras.
"Kavor, Farlen, tell me which one is puzzling you and I'll see if I can help."
Not sure if I'm better rolling on my own, or if we can even do aid another on this sort of check? I'll put a roll in - Either Kavor and Farlen can tell me an aura they don't know or I'll try to help them with one they're focused on.
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19
GM Granta |
Kavor has failed all Spellcrafts. Farlen succeeded on the bedroom. The other two are unknown, and Althera has failed at one of them.
Akter Phruse |
Sorry GM! I didn't notice the spoiler.
It seems rather simple to open. Maybe we should try entering through here. - he voices to the team, immediately signing for people to give him space as he tries to unlock.
Disable Device: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13 Untrained... Maximum DC 10
If he fails to unlock the door, he will look around for his companions for someone a little more... Adept... At such arts.
