Arielle moves over the horse and trap that Egan is at. "I can try to see if I can cause the trap to break?"

Arielle holds her hand over each hinge of the trap and casts Acid Splash as many times as needed to eat through the bolts. Her hope is that by destroying that part, the mouth of the trap will fall open.

M Gnome - Alternalte Racial Traie Pryomaniac Oracle of Fire / 3 (Per: +1 Init:+1 HP 21/21 AC: 20/12/18 F: +1 R: +1 W: +2)

Seeing Arielle plan Egan stands by to both calm the horse and the heal it as needed.

To make this easy on the rules i'm going to rule that we need a handle animal check per 5 points of damage or the horse takes the trap damamge again. So 3 handle animal checks dc 20 will allow zero heals and failures will eat up heals. 3 checks per horse will be fair

As Arielle starts to cast the horses begin to panic, making the accuracy needed to melt the hinges much harder...

Cleric / 3 (Per:+4, Init+3, HP 18, AC: 14/13/11 F:+3 R:+4 W:+5)

Maksim looks on Egan's and Arielle's attempts to handle the situation with pity.

"I feel your pain Egan and Arielle, but unless someone can deal with those deadly traps, all you will do is inflict more pain on the horses. I'm willing to help. You tell me how, but I'll not heal just to have the horses suffer longer." Maksim say this sadly but firmly.

Maksim cannot help with the horses, his skill with animals is very low, he'd do more harm than good. Maksim is a community brother, not a shepard.

M Gnome - Alternalte Racial Traie Pryomaniac Oracle of Fire / 3 (Per: +1 Init:+1 HP 21/21 AC: 20/12/18 F: +1 R: +1 W: +2)

Can anyone assist in Handle Animal?

Maksim, stand ready with curing or channeling then.

Egan will use Guidance on himself and do his best with the animals.

Horse 1

Handle Animals: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 4 + 1 = 25

Handle Animals: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 4 + 1 = 13

Handle Animals: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 4 + 1 = 16

Horse 2

Handle Animals: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 4 + 1 = 24

Handle Animals: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 4 + 1 = 16

Handle Animals: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 4 + 1 = 14

Those are the odds I would have expected. Egan will have to use all his first level spells, unless Malsim is helping.

Female Changeling (Green Widow) Bard / 1 ||HP: 8, AC: 13/11/13, Saves: W+2/R+4/F+0, CMB/CMD: +2/+14, Init: +2, Perc: +4

After seeing how much the horse is injuring itself during their attempts, Arielle will change her mind and admit that it may be best to just put them down.

Cleric / 3 (Per:+4, Init+3, HP 18, AC: 14/13/11 F:+3 R:+4 W:+5)

Maksim sighs and puts his hand on Egan's shoulder. In a pain-filled voice he says, "I'm truly sorry Egan, but the horses will only know pain and suffering, with the healing spells they will know so much more, that even if their lives are not lost, they will be unable to work or know joy in life again. I've seen animals treated with brutality, putting them down is the greatest kindness. However loving the attempt, only more harm can come of it. Please, Egan, let them go." Maksim, tearing up, lets Egan go.

Female Changeling (Green Widow) Bard / 1 ||HP: 8, AC: 13/11/13, Saves: W+2/R+4/F+0, CMB/CMD: +2/+14, Init: +2, Perc: +4

Tearing up a bit herself, Arielle hugs Egan. "I'm glad that at least Sparky didn't get his leg caught as well."

Arielle is unable to watch the horses being put down.

Where do y'all want me to go from here?

A mount can be like a best friend, especially in Egan's situation. Erastil did not bring us this far to fail us now.

Silva whispers a prayer to Erastil and gets to work. I will not put them down while there is still a chance. He strains, but is only able to open the first two. He chose Egan's mount first due to the fact Egan has a strong attachment to sparky and Silva knew he would be the strongest at the beginning. By the time he gets to the third trap, he is just a little too weak to hit the trifecta.

Can you guys come up with a way for 1 more point? Maybe the acid damage gave a +1 on the last trap?

Paladin of Erastil-3/ Init:+1, Perception:-1, AC:18/11/17, CMD:19, HP:28, Fort:6 (11 vs cold), Ref:4, Will:4

Maksim doesnt your domain power give a +1 to a skill check? Can I use it all three times? Either the acid or the domain power would allow for the trifecta with my rolls.

To Maksim: You must learn to not give up so quickly my brother. Erastil never said it would be easy, but he said he would strengthen us in the fight.

Female Changeling (Green Widow) Bard / 1 ||HP: 8, AC: 13/11/13, Saves: W+2/R+4/F+0, CMB/CMD: +2/+14, Init: +2, Perc: +4

I believe it was just Sparky's barding that was caught. Sparky himself should be fine.

We've forgotten aid another

Andrej, pessimistic, aids Silva, pulling at one side of the jaws while Silva pulls from the other.

Silvas check 2 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13
Silvas check 3 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4 Of course I fail on my horse :)

Cleric / 3 (Per:+4, Init+3, HP 18, AC: 14/13/11 F:+3 R:+4 W:+5)

Maksim is stunned at the favor shown Lord Silva who so easily opens a strong trap well beyound normal human strength. [b]"Your pardon Lord Silva, I've just ssen so many try to keep animals past their time and cause needless suffering. I did not expect such power as has been given you. Let me call upon Erastil's smaller favors for more help."[b]

Expend 3 uses of Touch of Good for a one rd +1 bonus to skill checks and more.

Lucky, lucky rolls there.

Nice rolls Silva, you made that look easy.

Silva strains with Andrej's help and Maksims blessing he wrenches the traps open freeing the horses. Pulling one of the disgarded traps from the ground you see some Initials scratched into it, "BO".

Anza returns to find you tending your wounded mounts, she carefully makes her way toward you leaeing her own horse with a bear trap in hand. "I see you found these, the whole area is littered with them. They've not even been marked!"

You might want to throw some healing at Andrej's horse, if you want to spend some time clearing the traps you can trigger them with a stick quite easily. Its just finding them and removing them thats hard.

M Gnome - Alternalte Racial Traie Pryomaniac Oracle of Fire / 3 (Per: +1 Init:+1 HP 21/21 AC: 20/12/18 F: +1 R: +1 W: +2)

Egan used one heal already. Maksim, you are up

Anza, as you pointed out, these traps were not marked. And they seem particularly difficult to open. This one is marked BO. Do you know this reckless trapper?

Egan will certainly want to spring AND remove all the traps.

Paladin of Erastil-3/ Init:+1, Perception:-1, AC:18/11/17, CMD:19, HP:28, Fort:6 (11 vs cold), Ref:4, Will:4

Thanks! Nothing wrong with a little luck!

There is nothing wrong with some trapping, but this is extreme. Silva helps Egan with the traps.

Those roll made it look way too easy, odds favored much horse suffering. That'll cause problems in the future.

"This is bad, this is not how to do this. Again why would someone lay traps like these if man-hunting wasn't his goal? Even the goblins rarely make traps like these, too likely to catch themselves in them." Maksim goes to Andrej's horse and drops a Shield of Faith for CLW.

Anyone else helping with the needs to make a roll, good luck. It may not be horses suffering you have to worry about...

Anza will help you clear the local area and set a camp in a safe spot with the horses tethered, "I have most of this area mapped but checking the entire forest for traps will take at least a day, and thats with all of us looking. 'BO' is probably Breeg, he's mean spirited and not above robbing travellers if he can catch them."

Anza helps the search: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21

"What's going to happen then when there is a steady stream of pilgrims heading towards the reclaimed temple? How many of them will find their own legs stuck in traps? Just because we disarm some now doesn't mean he just won't replace them with others later. Will he rob and kill those he traps? I doubt someone such as what you describe would waste any healing on those he traps. So even if he doesn't kill anyone outright, someone is surely going to die of injuries before reaching help."

"Perhaps we should seek him out and make sure he cannot replace his traps. Maiming and robbing people is banditry and you have your charter." Anza says while she searches the ground ahead of her.

Female Changeling (Green Widow) Bard / 1 ||HP: 8, AC: 13/11/13, Saves: W+2/R+4/F+0, CMB/CMD: +2/+14, Init: +2, Perc: +4

Arielle nods in agreement with Anza. "Yes, we should seek him out and soon. Do you happen to know where he may live? Or does he just move about alot, making different camps as he goes? Also I wonder if he has a map of where he puts all his traps? That could be useful for finding them all."

"I do not know the man but he has a reputation, i would guess he would be somewhere nearby to check his traps but exactly where i do not know." Anza pauses as she speaks before resuming the search.

Andrej smiles to himself at Anza's statement.

Local opinions to the rule of law seem to be changing already, he thinks.

Looks like four of you searching, it'll take you the best part of two full days to clear the entire space. However when the worst happens you have regained spells.

Over two days you trek through the woodland springing traps, there are tens of them scattered across the area with no markings or warnings at all. Several have been triggered by local animals, you find a starved wolf laying dead in one and the mostly eaten carcass of an elk in another.

Survival or knowledge nature to guess how long they have been dead.

As Egan triggers yet another trap with a branch there is an early snap and a scream, Maksim has missed a trap in a hollow and stepped into it...

Maksim screams as the teeth of a steel trap shreds his leg. Egan quickly comes by and heals Maksim somewhat. Maksim knowing that he is being punished for his lack of faith, accepts his pain as his due and starts praying for forgiveness.

I wonder if the really great rolls will repeat themselves. No wait they won't repeat; they'll be bad, very bad! (Player looks at the dieroller to roll high in order to prove him wrong again.)

Not having the strength to help pry open the trap, Arielle moves to Maksim's other side, opposite Egan. With his help, she'll try to help hold him steady as the bigger people work on freeing the Maksim's leg.

Egan stands ready with Guidance. Grab that shovel Silva.

Lay on Hands: 1d6 ⇒ 1
Let me heal you first and then see what I can do about the trap.

Strength: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9

Silva attempts to open the trap. Just when he thinks he has it, his hand slips and it closes harder.

You must have faith my friend. He says a little prayer and tries again.
Strength: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28
This time the trap not only opens, but is damaged beyond repair.
See. Erastil will guide us if we believe.

He heads over the the gnome. You are next little one.

Strength: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27
He uses all of his strength and easily removes it from the sorcerers leg.

The first attempt on Maksim didn't even budge the trap so it does not deal any more damage. I've not trapped Arielle as yet but you can keep your impressive roll.

After releasing Maksim you tend his wounds and carry on clearing the area, as you are completing what you expect to be the last few traps Arielle stumbles into one.

To hit: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (11) + 10 = 21 damage: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (5, 2) + 3 = 10

Arielle is quickly freed by Silva but still needs her wounds tensing to, Anza finds you a secure place to make camp for the night while Egan and Maksim get to work.

Female Changeling (Green Widow) Bard / 1 ||HP: 8, AC: 13/11/13, Saves: W+2/R+4/F+0, CMB/CMD: +2/+14, Init: +2, Perc: +4

As they finish their sweep of the area, Arielle give out a cry of pain as a trap closes on her upper thigh. I imagine from the height difference that is where it would hit her at.

She is very glad that Silva is able to free her so quickly and that the trap doesn't slip back shut on her leg.

Well the reverse pychology on the die-roller worked. Silva still rolling very, very well.

Maksim is glad at Erastil's forgiveness as the trap is pulled away after only one failure. He feels fairly good after the healing done, but as Arielle is still injured and worries about scaring, he calls upon Erastil's grace to heal them both.

Finishing up the the traps you make an early camp amd settle in for the night, the weather is still holdkng pleasant though Anza is predicting rain in a few days time. You each perform your camp tasks and settle around the fire as the sun begins to dip below the horizon. "So why did you all come here? I was inconvenient - it was either make a new life here or likely spend what was left of my life looking over my shoulder.

With a wry smile Anza will feign surprise, "A silver tongued charmer like you Andrej, who could possibly dislike you? I would think most villages would be pleased to count a swordsman of your skill among their number though, i for one am glad that you are here." She finishes seriously.

I mostly came here to meet the fey, and like Andrej to start a new life. He risks a quick glance towards Arielle. And I must say I like the fey I have met. Hoping to meet more. [b]Few things would please me more than to ensure they have a place in this land as we help to settle it.

After sharing tales around the fire everyone settles in for the night with Egan and Arielle on the first watch, everything passes uneventfully until Anza and Andrej take over after midnight.

Handing over to Silva and Maksim in the early hours of the morning Anza mentions she heard some strange noises coming from the north west around an hour ago, like a large animal moving but quite far away.
