Weehawk Warmonger |
Weehawk attacks the remaining shadow
DAMN YER FILTHY PRESENCE! He shouts...
Longsword: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19 if it hits sword damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
if Weehawk does not have to complete a move action to get the remaining shadow he will shield bash it otherwise disregard the following...
Shiel dbash: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23 if it hits shield damage: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Valen Stellori |
S'jeer attempts to protect the girl, drawing her weapon and saying, "What are these creatures?
Round 3
Valen - limbs weakened by the shadows attack - grimaces and tells her:"Undead spawn and their masters...the girl was a trap. Get her out of here quickly."
"Pharasma, I ask for your holy light once more."
Channel against undead: 3d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 2) = 8

Round 3
On 22, Vaghn continues to search the woods for the black robed casters. He sees only a single group of men, three in number, covered in glittering dust. He snaps his whip outward, attempting to trip one of the three blind men. 1d3 ⇒ 1 (1 hits the original caster). 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15 vs. caster's CMD. He hits what he presumes is the caster, connecting and pulling the man down. His mirror images follow suit, each falling prone adjacent to him.
On 21, Valen calls upon the Grey Lady again. a single column of light strike the remaining shadow, filling its incorporeal body with motes of silver light. The shadow attempts to resist the Grey Lady's power, however. 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20 Will save vs. Valen's channel DC 14. The shadow saves, taking 4 points of damage.
On 21, Alexa casts a spell, bringing a flaming sphere into being over the remaining shadow. It attempts to dodge her flaming sphere (1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16 vs. DC 17 Reflex). The shadow fails its save and is engulfed in the magical fire.
On 19, the remaining shadow, noticing Weehawk moving towards it, attacks him. 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7 vs. his touch AC for 1d6 ⇒ 3 points of strength dmg if it hits.
On 17, Weehawk attacks and hits the remaining shadow, dealing 5 points of damage to it.
On 14, Madeline takes a five foot step away from anyone threatening her and casts a spell. Her skin takes on the appearance of tree bark.
On 11, Smith moves away from the injured caster and defensively guards his master.
On 9, S'jeer picks up the girl with a quick nod and says, "She's not breathing. I think she's dying! Can you heal her priest???"
On 7, the first caster attempts to save against Vaghn's spell. 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23. The second caster, still unseen by the group, calls out to some unholy power and channels a column of negative energy into the center of the clearing, healing the shadow for 2d6 ⇒ (1, 6) = 7 points of damage.
Round 4 actions please....
Vaghn der Grafft |
Vaghn growls in frustration.
This Round (4)
Vaghn stays put and attacks the prone caster for lethal damage. 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15 vs. prone AC for 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3 damage if it hits.
Next Round (5)
Cast glitterdust on the other caster if he reveals himself; if not, trip the first caster if he gets up; if not, attack said caster for damage.
Valen Stellori |
S'jeer picks up the girl with a quick nod and says, "She's not breathing. I think she's dying! Can you heal her priest???"
Round 4
"I believe I can...,"Valen states considering the shadow and the girl's life. He calls on the holy light again- this time to heal.
Healing Channel: 3d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 4) = 14
Everyone within 30' should get 14 HP back - I think that's especially helpful to Madeline among our group. Hopefully that will help the girl as well.
'Smith' |
Round 4:
Smith nods at his Mistress command and seeks to destroy.
Perception:1d20 + 12 ⇒ (5) + 12 = 17
Moving towards the prone caster under attack from Vaghn, since this is the only visible target.
Att Roll:1d20 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13
Dam Roll:1d10 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
(If Smith can move to within range)
Weehawk Warmonger |
Round 4 Weehawk
Touch AC is 17 - that's a miss
Weehawk grimacing at this foul entity swings with his longsword at the shadow he hit earlier (the remaining one) and then attempts a shield bash
longword: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11 if it hits lsdamage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
shieldbash: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23 if it hits shlddamage: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
WHERE IN THE 9 HELLS IS THAT OTHER "FINGER WIGGLER"? Weehawk shouts - if he needs to he takes a 5 foot step so that the shadow will stay focused on him.
TheReplacementGM |
Round 5
On 22, Vaghn strikes at the image of the caster covered in glitterdust. He strikes true on a roll of 1. 1d3 ⇒ 1. He strikes the caster and hears the prone man curse. "Give us the books!!" Three images of this caster remain.
On 21 Valen channels the will of Pharasma, raining down healing light on all but the wounded (and visible) enemy combatants. Everyone, including the small girl, is healed. S'jeer remarks, "She's breathing!".
On 21, Alexa moves the flaming sphere with a flick of her wrist, forcing the shadow to dodge it again. 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18 vs. DC 17. It deals 1/2 of 3d6 ⇒ (1, 4, 2) = 7 if it hits. The shadow dodges out of the way. Alexa moves to the second prone caster.
On 19 the remaining shadow, having missed Weehawk before, presses its unholy attack. 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13 vs. touch AC. It deals 1d6 ⇒ 4 strength damage if it hits. Weehawk, however, manages to dodge it again.
On 17, Weehawk swings his longsword and pushes forward with his shield, but neither strike the shadow.
On 14, Madeline casts a spell, then tells Smith to attack the only visible threat - the caster Vaghn has tripped.
On 11, Smith moves to the edge of the forest and attacks the caster Vaghn is focused on. He strikes true on a roll of 1. 1d3 ⇒ 3, dealing 12 points of damage if he hits. Smith, sure he had hit, lands a blow on the soft earth. One of the images of the prone caster disappears, but as soon as it does, the man (and his companion image) immediately blink five feet away from Smith, placing him just out of the reach of Vaghn. 2 images remain.
On 7, the prone caster stands, provoking an AoO from Smith and Alexa. 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25 vs. FF, prone AC. Smith potential hits (51% or higher). 1d100 ⇒ 57, dealing 1d10 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10 if he hits (Thunderstone is only the first attack). Both images of this caster remain. Immediately after standing (and assuming Alexa's attack doesn't drop him), he casts a spell. Alexa's attacks potentially hit the caster as he stands (51% or higher) 1d100 ⇒ 94. Both her attacks hit and the man, mid-spell, drops. One of the images of him disappears.
The second caster, still out of sight, casts a spell.
Alexa Grunwald |
Round 5
The flaming sphere continues to burn the Shadow.
Damage: 3d6 ⇒ (3, 3, 2) = 8
Alexa attempts to pummel the prone caster into submission.
Attack-FoB: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23

Attack-FoB: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19

Damage: 1d6+2Valen, call on your Lady to stop this accursed undead.
Alexa, the shadow moved away and I assumed you moved the sphere to follow him. He made his reflex save this round.
Alexa Grunwald |
I read the it was continuing to attack Weehawk. I did not see that it had moved.
If I have to move the flaming sphere, then I will move to be adjacent to the caster once more to provide flanking to Smith.
TheReplacementGM |
At the beginning of Round 6, two of the casters and one of the shadows have fallen to your skillful defense. The girl, thought dead, is now breathing. S'jeer hides at the edge of the woods with the girl in her hands, watching your battle with the shadow and remaining caster with wide eyes.
Round 6 actions, please.
Alexa Grunwald |
In Round 5, I would have move the Flaming Sphere -- you made the reflex save.
In Round 6, I did not see any movement by the Shadow, so the flaming sphere should continue to burn it. If I have to move it, I will. And I will move to remain adjacent to the caster to make him draw AoO and give Smith flanking.
EDIT - My rounds might be off. Last round, you moved me as I wanted so that I was next to the caster.
TheReplacementGM |
I read the it was continuing to attack Weehawk. I did not see that it had moved.
If I have to move the flaming sphere, then I will move to be adjacent to the caster once more to provide flanking to Smith.
I meant to mention that. Sorry. I'll be getting back to using a grid by Wednesday, when my CD reader arrives and I'm actually able to load CS5....
Alexa Grunwald |
Sorry for the confusion. I did not realize that you were still editing the combat post.
If I have not posted clearly, please bot me as necessary.
1) I want to make sure the flaming sphere is burning the shadow.
2) I will try to move next to any caster that is left.
Use the above rolls or roll for me if needed.
TheReplacementGM |
Valen Stellori |
S'jeer remarks, "She's breathing!".
WHERE IN THE 9 HELLS IS THAT OTHER "FINGER WIGGLER"?
Round 6
"Thank you, Grey Lady," whispers as he focuses on the battle.
"Let's see if Pharasma's sight can help that, Master Weehawk." Valen claps his hands and releases them wide - sending out a sphere of power in all directions.
Invisibility Purge - You surround yourself with a sphere of power with a radius of 5 feet per caster level (25') that negates all forms of invisibility. Let's hope he's still in range.
Alexa Grunwald |
Sorry for the confusion. Use what I posted above for Round 5, it was intended as round 6.
Round 6
The flaming sphere continues to burn the Shadow.
Damage: 3d6 ⇒ (3, 3, 2) = 8 -- DC17 Reflex negates
Alexa attempts to pummel the prone caster into submission.
Attack-FoB: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Attack-FoB: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Valen, call on your Lady to stop this accursed undead.
If there are no visible casters, she will instead cast Shillelagh on her club to grant it magic.
Vaghn der Grafft |
This Round (5)
Cast ghostbane dirge DC 15 on the shadow.
Next Round (6)
Trip the cultist if he reveals himself.
Madeline Peshtussle |
Madeline continues to watch the chaotic flow of battle as intently as possible. Using what she knows of magic, she tries to pin point the elusive second caster.
Perception:1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
Spell-craft:1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17
She then begins to move around, trying to 'flank' the enemy magic user(s).
Though, with those roles, I fear Madeline's tactis will be lackluster at best.
Weehawk Warmonger |
apologies I mistaken which round we are on earlier
ROUND 6 Swinging at the shadow again
longword: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11 if it hits lsdamage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
shieldbash: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19 if it hits shlddamage: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
Weehawk will continue to attack the shadow
Alexa Grunwald |
The problem is that you keep hitting with your shield which is not a magic weapon, so it is not doing anything. You would be better just attacking with the sword. Heck, attack 2 handed with the sword since incorporeal are attacking your touch AC, which the shield does not help with.
Alexa Grunwald |
No, two nat-1s in a row is just sh*t luck. However, it is better than two nat-20s with the shield only to do no damage.
Ok, same net effect, but I think it would psychologically suck more if you rolled dual nat-20s and got nothing.
TheReplacementGM |
All, as Vaghn pointed out, I skipped round 4. Sorry. Honestly my mind has been elsewhere.
Round 5b
On 22, Vaghn casts a spell, targeting the shadows. The shadows attempt to save against its effects. 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15 vs. DC 15.
On 21, Valen casts a spell, attempting to reveal the final caster. The caster, with his holy symbol held high, is revealed!
On 21, Alexa moves her magical ball of fire toward the shadow, which attempts to dodge it 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10. The shadow does not, taking 4 points of magical fire damage.
On 19, the remaining shadow attacks Weehawk 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9 vs. touch AC, dealing 1d6 ⇒ 3 strength damage if it hits.
On 17, Weehawk attacks the remaining shadow, but both of his attacks fail to strike it, passing harmlessly through it.
On 14, Madeline moves to flank the newly revealed spell caster.
On 11, Smith follows Madeline and strikes the only remaining caster. Is Smith using the gnomish war maul two-handed? He heals 8 points of damage to the man.
On 9, the last caster standing (and currently not bleeding to death on the ground) steps five feet away from Smith (but stays adjacent to Madeline) and channels to harm everyone in the clearing. 2d6 ⇒ (6, 3) = 9, DC 12 Will for 1/2.
Valen Stellori |
No worries on the round thing. Assuming this is now Round 6:
Will save: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15
Valen grimaces a little at the use of the dark light, but immediately calls on his own bright light to blast the shadow.
Channel to damage shadow: 3d6 ⇒ (5, 1, 2) = 8
Vaghn der Grafft |
Vaghn snarls a curse at bad luck for the spell not affecting the shadow, then moves to deal with the remaining cultist.
This Round (6)
Move however much is needed to put the remaining cultist in whip's range, then attempt to disarm him of his unholy symbol. 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (14) + 10 = 24
Next Round (7)
Attempt to disarm him again if he still has his symbol, otherwise trip.
Madeline Peshtussle |
Round 7:
Madeline grimaces as the enemy caster's magic affects her. Though it does not prevent her from swinging her sword at him in return/reply.
Att Roll:1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22
Dam Roll:1d8 ⇒ 1
Crit Con:1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
"YIELD!" She declares, having marked the foe.
Edit: Will Save:1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5(Ouch)
'Smith' |
Round 7:
Smith steps slightly to one side in order to flank with his Mistress. While his Mistress obviously uses dexterity, flair and panache...Smith has none of these things and simply 'brings the hammer down' upon the foe.
Att Roll:1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 9 + 2 = 22
Dam Roll:1d10 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
Indeed, smith is using the Gnomeish piston maul two handed
Edit: Will Save:1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
TheReplacementGM |
Round 6 - The Indiana Jones Round
On 22, Vaghn dashes across the clearing and sends his whip out. He manages to catch the caster's holy symbol and pull it from his hands! The man screams, "You, professor, will pay for that."
On 21, Valen channels again, lighting the whole clearing and healing all of you.
On 21, Alexa moves her magical ball of fire toward the shadow, once again trying to burn its undead essence from the face of the world. It will take 1/2 of 3d6 ⇒ (4, 4, 3) = 11 if it fails its save 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6 vs. DC 17. Alexa moves to aid her companions against the final caster, moving around him in a wide circle, looking for an opening.
On 19, the remaining shadow turns to Valen and attacks him 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15 vs. touch AC, dealing 1d6 ⇒ 3 points of strength damage if it hits. As it moves away, however, Weehawk takes an attack of opportunity! 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (17) + 10 = 27, dealing 1/2 of 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7 if he hits.
And just as the shadow is about to drain the last of Valen's strength from him.... Weehawk lands a critical blow and ends the shadow!!
On 17, Weehawk follows his first attack with another, driving his sword into the place where the shadow is unraveling....
On 14, Madeline moves to flank and attacks the last caster standing. She hits him, but only knicks him.
On 11, Smith pivots and steps to the side, attacking the caster again. He hits the man, landing a solid blow that brings him to his knees with a soft thud.
Combat is over...
Three unmarked vials, etched with small daggers on them.
Six glass vials filled with a golden-hued liquid that you've seen before many times. These are potions of cure light wounds.
Six magical scrolls.
Three finely wrought war razors.
Each man wears a black, leather breastplate studded with steel. The studs are carved to look like tiny skulls. The armor glows very faintly.
Three unholy symbols of Zon-Kuthon.
...and approximately ninety gold pieces, minted in Chelix.
TheReplacementGM |
S'jeer, with the girl in her arms, walks to the center of the clearing and gently lays her at Valen's feet.
"You, sir, are blessed by the Grey Queen herself! You have healed young Aleece and returned her to us. I cannot but thank you and her in kind. She truly is as merciful to the meek as some say she is. May her judgement always be fair and swift." Then, S'jeer bows her head for a moment, taking a knee in front of Valen. After a moment, she picks up the young girl and moves to the clearing.
"I will wait here until your group is ready to return to the caravan."
Madeline Peshtussle |
Madeline quickly moves to search first the bodies, thence moving slightly further afield to check for any enemy camp-site and any goods or information kept within.
Perception:1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
She instructs Smith to stay close and also help with the search.
Weehawk Warmonger |
will save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15
edit-
I save for half damage but from the order of combat Valen healed that damage
What foul creature was dis? - were me eyes playing tricksie? I swear by Torag's balls I hit de ting and me sword passed tru it!
Weehawk moves around the perimeter to make sure no foes remain before returning to Valen
Are you okay priest? Doze tings seemed ta want yer snuffed....at any rate tanks to you and your goddess
Valen Stellori |
S'jeer, with the girl in her arms, walks to the center of the clearing and gently lays her at Valen's feet.
Distracted in assessing the fight's damage, Valen turns unexpectedly at the sudden praise, and nods in thank you to S'jeer. "Pharasma finds us all - great or small - worthy of the path of life, and judges all as you say - fairly. I am just glad that she did not deem it necessary to take this young one so soon."
As the woman moves back to the clearing and Valen relaxes, the fatigue of the shadow's attack rushes back and he sits down to recuperate. He takes out the Wand of Lesser Restoration. "Alexa, Weehawk - were you wounded by the shadow creatures? If so, I can use this wand to alleviate the fatigue." He will use a charge to alleviate the shadow's effects on either of them.
Lesser Restoration: 1d4 ⇒ 4
The ability drains are healed at one point per day, but don't know if anyone felt that would take too long. Valen's down 2 points, so no big deal assuming this is our only event for now. But I was under the impression Alexa took a bigger hit than that; not sure about Weehawk.
Valen Stellori |
What foul creature was dis? - were me eyes playing tricksie? Are you okay priest? Doze tings seemed ta want yer snuffed....at any rate tanks to you and your goddess
Knowledge(Religion): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25
Valen nods in acknowledgement at Weehawk's thanks. "A little winded from the shadows' touch. Shadows are a servant of undeath and apparently these priests. The remnants of greedy, petty souls that avoid Pharasma's final judgment; I am sure that the holy light of her touch made me their preferred target."
Alexa Grunwald |
We got lucky, I only got hit once for 3 strength. I thought that Weehawk was hit more. I also have a potion of lessor restoration, but think that the wand is better to use. Do you have any spells memorized?
RGM - how many days to the next town? Just wondering so that we can decide whether to use more healing.
Alexa's shoulders sag as the combat finishes.
Those were ghosts or something like that. Creatures of this world, but not. Some like them require weapons of cold iron, others magic, and still others weapons of silver. Your sword seemed to damage them Weehawk, so I would assume that whatever they were is hurt by magical weapons.
She then sits on the ground and looks around.
Is the girl okay? I really feel drained, as though that thing just sucked the strength out of me.
Alexa will also cast Detect Magic. She will then point out the magic items and allow one of the others to discern what exactly they are while she catches her breath.
Also, Vallen could memorize Restore, lessor tomorrow as second level spells to save the wand.
Valen Stellori |
Don't have the Restoration spell memorized for the day, but I could wait and do two castings tomorrow after resting and recharging. Thereby save the wand. LOL - just realized I am repeating what you said - so we could go that route.
Valen Stellori |
When the time presents itself - possibly back at caravan camp - Valen will also try to decipher the items for their ability with Detect Magic.
