Witterwils
Mr. Witterwils thanked them for coming by and checking on them, "The boys and I stayed inside. Too bad you are not staying."
He called over his older son and told them to bring out their horses.
They showed them horses only and then the youngest girl rode up on her pony. Mr. Witterwils told them, "The horses are not for sale. We raise cattle but since you have been so good to us, we will loan them to you."
He excused himself, "Will that do?"

As Zeljka moved around Pridon's Hearth, she couldn't shake the feeling that she was being watched. Since it was continuous, she had to conclude that they were being followed.
Min didn't notice anything out of the ordinary, but when Zeljka shared her conclusion, she replied in a low voice, "Probably Mr. Blackwell's men. He didn't seem like a man who would accept refusal lightly."
Before leaving town, Min intends to tell the sheriff about Blackwell's proposal, as well as clear up the ownership of anything found during their explorations for her own peace of mind. I'll also try to get her potion picked and gold spent tomorrow.

Zeljka took the reins of one of the horses. Stroking its nose she says, "That is most generous of you, Mr. Witterwil. These will do. I'm truly sorry that I can't stay yet but I will be back. Nsizi |
I'm down with Zeljka's plan. Smithy, then ship ASAP. Can we ride to the ship?
As they rode back from the Witterwills, Nsizi sat back and enjoyed being in the saddle again. He hadn't realized how much he'd missed travelling by horseback. Of course, their saddles were different here, but it didn't take too much to get used to them. Also, it was a completely different experience now that his leg was healed. Usually it was in agony after a few hours on horseback, but today he was able to enjoy it.
Adaela sighed, "I fear we have asked so much of you but yes, the sooner the ship is searched the better. It was last seen up the coast, maybe 10-12 miles on the coast, of course."
Nsizi shook his head. "Helping those in need is our duty as fellow souls. We shall go immediately, after we have collected our gear from the smithy."
Zeljka Greenfoot |
Zeljka kept looking around while they made their way to the smithy. "I know that we're being followed but every time I try to see who it is, no one's there. It's proving to be very frustrating. Maybe I'm just imagining it but my instincts are usually better than that." Not being very familiar with magic she asked the others, "Could they be using magic to be invisible?"

He likes going to the ship first.

Zeljka wrinkled her nose in disgust at the unnatural creatures. "Gross," she growled as she unleashed her new weapon. "This will be a good test of the smithy's work."

The well-made blade sliced through undead flesh, sheering off an arm. But the creature continued to shuffle towards the slayer OR The extent of the damage was enough to disrupt the magic animating the zombie and it slumped to the ground, unmoving.
Will study the zombie and attack.
Is the square in front of Zeljka/Nsizi a hole or can you walk on it? I assumed that the closest enemy to attack was the zombie.

I might have messed this up as I think I assumed Oz knew these creatures were undead and so did not use cold against them. That might be more than he should have known???

Okay, so if she were to step 'up' on the map, there's some sort of surface there and she wouldn't be plummeting onto the beach, then? Just wanted to know what's a valid move.

Zeljka was surprised at the force of the zombie's attack. She was expecting it to move slower and it had surprised her after she downed its companion. The smell was sickening within the confined space and it took much more concentration on her part to attack. Once again, the half-orc brought her falchion down on the second zombie.

I was so confused! I guess I cross-posted with you, so I didn't realize that a new round had come out. I was looking at the old round, trying to figure out why Oz was making a fort check.
Ok - ignore Nsizi's glib comment - that was meant for last round. He will not be so silly now that he's injured. Also, what can I know for a 17?

The stink of sea-water and death made Nsizi gag, but he managed to hold his gorge. For now. Never mind, figured it out
Seeing his iwisa practically bounce off his blubberous foe, Nsizi dropped his iwisa and pulled his spear around. The iwisa bounced and skittered across the deck, as if it had been kicked. Ignoring it, Nsizi adjust his grip on the spear and lunged forward at the smelly enemy.

Not that Zeljka is going to do anything different regardless of their DR...
With both the zombies taken care of, Zeljka turns her attention to the bloated and smelly undead. Still feeling somewhat sick to her stomach, she steps around Nsizi and drives her blade into the eaisge's gut and pulls upward with both hands.

If I understood correctly from the previous discussion, they should be susceptible to criticals so I rolled again. Adjust as needed.
There were no words to describe the putrid liquid that spilled out of the eaisge as Zeljka's blade punctured its abdomen. She almost gagged as the smell intensified but she managed to remain focused and steeled her insides.

As the last bloated body hit the deck, Nsizi backed immediately away, to get away from the smell. He bumped into Min, and noticed that the wizard had been badly pummelled. Taking her hand gently in his, he said, "Please, kiki Min, allow me to help. Spirits, heal her wounds." Taking a look at her, he shook his head. "No, come on spirits, you can do better." As he moved to retrieve his iwisa, something about one of the bodies made him stop. Squinting his eyes, he stared at it a moment, then said, "This one, he looks familiar. He was on the ship with us, I think. Hard to be sure..."
The smell of the body, combined with the memory of his nauseating sea voyage nearly made him throw up. Moving quickly away, he focused instead on finding his dropped iwisa. It took several minutes - somehow it had ended up inside a broken storage compartment. Shaking his head in confusion, Nsizi re-slung his spear across his back and took his iwisa in hand again. Now that he didn't need it as a walking stick, he wasn't really sure how to carry it. I will need to make a strap for it, maybe hang it on my neswambi...
Taking a look at the manifest she adds, "We should get that passenger list back to the sheriff."
Nsizi nodded, "Yes, let us leave this place. We can tell her also about the building supplies. Perhaps the blacksmith could use some of it, or even the Witterwills. We cannot take it back with us now, but it seems secure enough for now."
I'll claim one potion. Does anybody have a detect evil monkey spell? Unless I hear a compelling reason not too, Nsizi will tuck the little guy away in his neswambi.

Staggered by the slam to the head Oz saw stars. Blood ran down his face and into his eyes and he retched at the stink. "At least I provided it another target. I was worried that Min could not take any more." he said as he wiped the blood from his face. As Nsizi laid his hand on the halfling and his wounds closed he responded "You are a gift from the gods Nsizi. My thanks."
After the healing Oz busied himself helping to explore the ship. He looked with timid curiousity at the monkey shaped idol. "This thing bothers me. Why is it here?" Did one of the passengers bring it? Can anyone identify it or tell if its magical?"

Sorry; I was away from the keyboard all day. Trying to get caught up now.
Grateful to be healed, Min was eager to get away from the gruesome shipwreck and its undead cargo. As they rode back to town, she took a look at the bone idol at Oz's behest. "No magic here," she replied (I presume). "Just a little totem of some sort. If it was meant to bring good fortune to its bearer, I can't say it did much good. Nsizi, do you recognize it?"

"Anything else worthy of note out there?"
"Other than the fact that the the passengers and crew had turned into the walking dead?" Min asked, a little caustically. "I presume they were killed by the storm and something -- maybe the magic the shaman was using to conjure the lightning -- forced their bodies to reanimate. I would suggest you ask the Banker to examine the site and make sure there's no lingering taint. Pridon's Hearth certainly doesn't need a cursed shipwreck so near."
