Nergi Khalka |
"Maybe it's one of the lost aspirants, Kel.", Nergi interjects.
"Or was, rather."
Marduk Zhro'hysh |
"Oh, right. Newbies. Maybe some be still alive. No?" says Marduk trying to search around.
She finds the humanoid covered in goo.
"Maybe heal dis one. He say what happened." she says, asking for Anto's help.
Wizard of the Coast |
"Oh, didn't think of that.. it could be made of parts from one or more of them ... does that really count though?"
Nergi Khalka |
The halfling scratches her temples.
"Erm - you got me there. What about other vats?"
Antonella Schiavo |
“The big humanoid has done us no harm and certainly didn’t ask to be ‘born.’”
“S/he cannot help the way s/he looks, Good Kel. And like all sentient and unawakened creatures, is deserving of our compassion until they demonstrate otherwise.”
While she’s waiting for Rocky, the priestess slips over to assist Mutahir with his diagnosis of the fallen humanoid. "If this unfortunate requires more healing, I would be pleased to provide it, Marduk."
Take 10 heal: 10 + 5 = 15
Antonella then stands upright at peace in Tāḍāsana or Mountain Pose, attempting to generate some quan in an atmosphere charged with horror, uncertainty and green goo.
“I know of at least one Iroran who took a far greater risk to rescue an assuredly evil individual, with only the faintest chance of redeeming them.”
Rocky the Oread |
Rocky shrugs, Picks up Antonella and jumps up next to the large body. Then lowers a rope in case others wish to ascend.
"I'm not performing mouth to mouth on that thing even if it isn't evil."
Spend a ki for the jump. 1 left.
GM Rinaldo |
The creature in the vat, if it was ever "alive," certainly is not now. It appears to have been stitched together from parts of many humanoids, and the internal organs just were not capable of supporting the size of the thing.
The person on the ground turns out to be a human, and is alive though unconscious. There are no wounds, but it appears the tank was somehow drawing life essence from the person, which will take time and dedicated professionals to heal. While inspecting him, you find a wayfinder tucked inside a pouch.
When Nergi mentions the other vats, several of you remember seeing ghostly outlines floating in some of them as you ran past. With time to inspect, you can clearly see that four of them host figures.
Mutahir Hashem |
Mutahir nods at Antonella.
On this we agree... no one is ever to far gone to be rescued, and you should always try. Sadly, I think this creature is much to far gone for your healing magic to save it.
As they look over the downed person, Mutahir mutters softly...
Well, there is our missing newbie... which probably means...
Seeing the floating figures, Mutahir reaches into his pack and pulls out Trusty Buddy. He tests the heft a few times before winding up and smashing the glass on each to release the contents and release the captives.
GM Rinaldo |
Mutahir goes around the room, breaking each glass chamber. With each one, a flood of caustic liquid flows out, along with a pathfinder agent. As with the first, each is alive but unconscious and in need of care.
Each chamber deals 5 acid damage to you as it splashes you.
And that was the final thing I needed before moving into the conclusion ...
With Black defeated and the pathfinders rescued, you send word back to the Lodge. Venture-Captain Heidmarch brings a team to safely take the missing pathfinders to a temple to recover, another to secure the rogue golemancer, and has you scour the lab for any further information. You quickly uncover a dossier revealing ties between Black and the Aspis Consortium. The documents reveal details of the sabotage Black was instructed to perform on the angelic guardians, records of months of payments for the use of the Doll House as a front for smuggling and acquisition of information from the Golemworks, and a reference to an unnamed “Qadiran friend”. The documents are all signed by “Gold Agent Maiveer Sloan of Bronze House”, the Aspis Consortium’s head of operations in Magnimar. Next to the dossier is a pouch of newly minted Qadiran coins.
----
Over the next few days, Sheila Heidmarch presents the evidence linking the Pathfinder’s murders, the attack on her property, and the relic smuggling ring to the Magnimarian government in an effort to bring punishment down on the rival organization, but Lord-Mayor Haldmeer Grobaras and his ineffectual bureaucracy are unconvinced of the Aspis Consortium’s role in the murders. Although the evidence is substantial that they were at least involved in spying on the Golemworks, smuggling, and ordering the sabotage of angelic guardians, those in power are hardly motivated to get involved in a crime that seems to have already been solved, though the Pathfinders are paid lip service and promised that the Aspis Consortium will be watched carefully going forward.
And that concludes the adventure! Your primary success condition was to identify Black as the culprit at the Golemworks and locate the evidence linking him to the Aspis Consortium (which required a DC10 Perception check). Your secondary success condition was to rescue all of the captured pathfinders ... had you left without breaking all of the chambers, you would have missed your second prestige point.
I will get chronicles prepared either this evening or tomorrow morning. Is a link to a google drive document good for everyone?
It has been great fun running for you guys. I hope to see you again sometime!
Marduk Zhro'hysh |
Cool! Thanks a lot GM! It was a very interesting adventure! Google Drive is okay for me :)
Marduk is happy to return the pathfinders safely to the lodge but still feels deceived as she imagined living a great fight with the big golem.
Mutahir Hashem |
As the rescued newbies are carted off, Mutahir bows to his fellow pathfinders.
Thank you, my brothers and sisters, for your protection and power. May we see each other again sometime soon.
To Antonella he holds out his hand for a shake and a wicked grin.
Good, as always, to work with you godslave. Let's see if the decimverate and your god's sense of humor continue to pair us up in the future. Though hopefully for one with a little less... disturbing ramifications to our investigation.
He nods to the rest.
Same with all of you. Know that if you ever need help with taking down beings of evil, My blade is yours.
WOOHOO VICTORY! Look forward to the next game together, and google drive is peachy for me.
Antonella Schiavo |
Ashamedly exhilarated by the lack of control during the short hop with Rocky, Antonella eventually sticks her head out of the tank window to eyeball Mutahir.
"I'm not performing mouth to mouth on that thing even if it isn't evil."
“Stay upright, Mutahir. For those are words to live by.”
Let's see if the decimverate and your god's sense of humor continue to pair us up in the future.
Antonella smiles and grasps the proffered hand. “You’re making progress, brother. The Iro-shu most assuredly DOES do comedy.”
Great game, GM Rinaldo! I can see why this scenario is considered a classic.
Google Drive works for me. Oh and can I trouble you for a note on the Chronicle that says Antonella is spending 3PP and 240gp to re-train 1 hp, please?
I own a pdf of Ultimate Campaign, and can provide you with a screen shot of my downloads page if you require it.
Until next time, everyone!
Wizard of the Coast |
google drive is fine for me.... and it was great playing with all of you! fun scenario, rendered more enjoyable by the interactions. GM Rinaldo, you did a great job! I had a blast. Sorry for the confusions with spells... I really need to be more careful between my spellbook and my memorized spell lists... maybe put them further apart in the profile.
Rocky the Oread |
"If these were our missing Pathfinders then whose corpses did we find earlier? The sisters?"
This was fun. Made more so by the players and GM. And anything that lets me print out the chronicle is fine.
Wizard of the Coast |
speaking of printing out chronicles... please post in jpg or pdf formats ... my computer can't seem to print png formats in a readable size. thx
