As a swift action Dortlin gains the Animal focuses Bull and Snake. (+4 to strength, +4 to and vs attacks of opportunity.)

in their hasted state Rambi easily makes it to one of the mounted kobolds and we both attack the rider.

Dortlin charges into the cloud, groping about until he spots the hazy outline of one of the kobolds through the dense fog. His no-dachi lashes out, striking a blow against the rider No crit - barely missed. Rambi's horn follows shortly after, but his aim is off due to the thick fog. Suddenly after a attacking, Dortlin notices a sound from above whoosh, whoosh, whoosh. It is the beating of wings, and shortly thereafter, a large form descends from above, lashing out with tail and wing and claw, attempting to purge his home of intruders.

I misunderstood the situation. I thought the blue ball was the cloud and the red area was just slippery ground. Dortlin had no way to know where an enemy deep in the cloud was. At best he could have moved around and maybe attacked the one at the outside of the edge.

I've moved you to the south kobold and added text clarifying the effects. You'll still take the crit from the bite as the dragon darts out and then retreats back into the fog.

Reaver's Roar

Dortlin adjusted his action based on a misunderstanding with the terrain - he is now up at 17 HP after attacking one of the kobolds.

I'm going to resolve it as if you had healed - Dortlin ain't out of the woods yet.

The two kobolds, sensing blood in the water both move in on Dortlin (well, the second one gropes around a bit then follows the sounds of his companion grunting in pain and the stomping rhino to find his foe). They both yell out challenges in draconic at Dortlin before attacking.

Attack, Broken Wing: 1d20 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 10 + 2 = 29
Damage, Challenge, broken wing: 1d4 + 1 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 1 + 7 + 2 = 11 7 damage

Dortlin catches the blade in his shoulder, a glancing blow. He uses the opening to completely eviscerate the kobold, who falls out of the saddle and lands on the ground with a satisfying plop. His mount, with no escape, follows the last command of it's master.

Attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20
damage: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8 4 damage

The final kobold, unable to reach any other targets without exposing himself to Dortlin, opts to just attempt to kill the wounded human.

The attacks of opportunity happen before the enemy's attack. They only get the attack in at +2 if they survive the aoos. So the 7 dmg from the mounted Kobold shouldn't happen.

Teric zips out of the passageway, following Crios in the air. He sees right through the mist and spots the waiting dragon. He smiles, knowing it believes itself to be safe. He draws a rod as he moves and points to the dragon. "Požiarne."

Fire blossoms throughout the cavern, catching kobolds and their mounts too.

Fireball. Orange template is my idea, but I don't know where the dragon is. Teric will definitely catch the dragon, but he'll also try to get as many kobolds as he can without harming Rambi or any of the party.

Also, using Persistant Spell metamagic rod. Each creature in the area needs two Reflex saves to make half damage

Reaver's Roar

@Dortlin - My initial reaction upon reading the feat was that the attack went off before you got your AoOs. Upon a re-read and thinking about how other things that provoke work, I believe you are correct. Please remove the damage from that attack if you haven't already.

@Teric - It is kind of hard to miss the dragon with a fireball in that cloud. It is however a full-round action for sorcerers to use metamagic rods as detailed here. Also, while Obscuring Mist does specifically say that fireball burns it away, there is no such text in Fog Cloud (which is what this is). Due to the fact that the two spells are pretty much exactly copy and pasted with only that and the origin changed, I don't believe fireball will burn off the higher level fog.

Kivuli and Dortlin work together to slay the remaining kobold. He dies with a weakly uttered curse. Dortlin then turns his attention to the mounts, felling one swiftly with help from Rambi. Rambi then whips his horn to the other side, impaling the final mount, leaving a grievous wound.

Teric scowls at the dragon. "If you knew what was good for you, you'd quit the fight while you still live." He holds out the rod and flexes his hand, turning it in the circle. Suddenly, a fiery sphere erupts near the dragon's wings.

"We need to work together now more than ever." Crios says going on the defensive, once again doing his best to stay apart from the group by quickly flying to the western wall of the chamber.

Crios took 4 less damage from the dragons attack because of his DR4 from the fey(hey every little bit counts!). This round he activates full defensive, making his AC 32 till his next action. Next round we need to all attack at once, so the dragon can't defend easily or focus on one of us. I will do my best to provide flank for Kivuli(assuming I can survive an AoO).

Reaver's Roar

Daniel looses an arrow as he moves. It flies straight and true, headed for the dragon's eye. At the last moment an ethereal flash of blue appears, knocking the arrow slightly off course, causing it to strike the bony plate on it's cheek, shattering and failing to do any damage.

Teric conjures his flaming sphere. It lands on the dragon's wing, but everywhere the flames touch him they distort, and wink out of existence, unable to overcome his innate magical resistance. Perturbed at the arcane caster that keeps lobbing fire spells at him, the dragon beats his mighty wings and flies over to Teric, closing his mighty jaws on the Sorcerer's legs nearly killing the man.

You may add an extra 1d6 points of damage to a single damage roll made against a true dragon at any time in the future. This damage stacks with other bonus damage such as sneak attack and is not multiplied on a critical hit. When this bonus has been used, cross Dragonkiller off your Chronical sheet.

Dortlin finishes his summon and a small air elemental appears. with a series of gestures Dortlin indicates clearing the fog.
And the air elemental would much prefer that over fighting a dragon so it forms itself into a whirlwind and gets to work.

Yogadragon says he is fine with the gestures and the elemental will be spending time clearing the fog.

"Mama didn't raise no coward."

Dortlin then casts Spider Climb on Rambi and hangs on while sending him forward.

Rambi uses a skirmish trick to move twice as a move action. Take 10 on climb for a 32. Hasted speed of 70 feet I think he can get all the way down next to the dragon.

You know the dragon has reach - you know this from when he was running around biting you. He is not dumb and will likely make his attack against the injured rider rather than the uninjured mount.

Also, you guys still have an aid token. The healing burst might be of interest to some of you. Alternatively, I'm not saying that the inspire courage effect would be the difference between all of Rambi and Dortlin's broken wing gambit AoOs hitting or missing... but it might be.

***OVERSEER ANNOUNCEMENT***

With the dragons defeated and their kobolds fleeing, the Pathfinders assemble in the deep cave. With her phantom Anok in tow, Medda approaches the frozen column and brushes away the outer layer of frost. Frozen within the column is a dwarven woman in steel armor, her body torn as if by immense claws. With her hand pressed against the ice, Medda pleads. “Ivvora, I have found you. Now what? Vildeis said to find you and that you would help me, but how can we help you in this state?”

“You look to me when you should look to the evil that stalks our homeland. It is not I who needs help,” declares a voice that is both sweet as music and powerful as a thunderstorm. The frost melts away from the column, revealing dozens of clear facets that dribble melt water as if from open wounds. The image of a wounded angelic figure reflects in each facet, simultaneously warming the chamber and judging all that the angel sees. “As you can see, I serve Vildeis more directly than before.” The images look to Anok. “I see you took your oath seriously, Anok. I was wrong to have doubted your conviction. How are our people?”

The red phantom’s hue turns rosier as he looks to Medda and responds, “You would be proud.”

With a nod, the angel addresses everyone at once. “Then why do you seek me?”

“Eshimka has returned,” Medda announces. “We fought off the horror once, but it shall return at the next solstice.”

The angel’s eyes flare with righteous fire. “Then you will need a weapon to defeat it, as I had. Vildeis granted me the blade that I gave your people, but only after I thought I had given everything to vanquish my greatest foe. Even now I can sense evil has returned to that land, far to the south in a forest where the Whispering Tyrant’s legions once ruled. Show our patron Vildeis the same dedication that I did, and I shall ask that she equip you in the same way.” With that, the angelic images fade from the melting column.

Medda addresses the gathered Pathfinders. “I believe I know the forests Ivvora mentioned. You have already done so much, Pathfinders, but I invite you to help more. After I give Ivvora the burial she deserves, I will set forth with all who are able and willing for the Fangwood.”

---------End of Part 4---------

The long journey south from the slopes of the Tusk Mountains to the edge of Fangwood took several weeks, during which many of the Twinhorns and Pathfinders exchanged ancestral stories and tales of daring adventures to pass the time on the relatively uneventful trek. By the time the Fangwood rises ahead in the brisk morning air, both groups are eager to confront whatever lies ahead.

Medda addresses the crowd gathered before her. “South of here lies a battlefield where the paladin Ivvora risked her life in a daring ploy to help her battalion defeat an undead horde. For her selflessness, Ivvora earned a token of Vildeis’s favor: the dagger she used to deal a terrible blow to Eshimka! For all the crusaders’ heroism, I can sense an undead taint lingered here, and that stretch of the Fangwood has expanded in the centuries since to absorb it. It is now our turn to earn Vildeis’s blessing, risking ourselves to end this threat so that in turn we might slay Eshimka once and for all.

“The terrain favors small groups over larger formations, so we shall divide into smaller groups to navigate the forest and identify the corruption’s heart. May Ivvora’s example guide us to victory!” With that, Medda and her phantom Anok turn and enter the Fangwood, followed by Pathfinder and Twinhorn teams that fan out behind her.

Table GMs, please narrate any unfinished business in Part 4 and move to Part 5. Once the PCs have cleared the brambles Area O is now accessible.

Reaver's Roar

The Pathfinders have surrounded the dragon, who suddenly seems over matched.

Foolish mortals! You shall not defeat me! You shall all die!

The dragon's taunts ring hollow as it bursts into the air and begins rising rapidly towards a hole in the ceiling. As it makes for the passage and escape, you all begin hearing the sound of another pair of beating wings, though this one sounds different - unnatural. As the white dragon is about to make his escape, an even larger dragon, but skeletal - all the skin absent from its form, descends rapidly from above.

Horralydax, Descendent of Grathatonhakis, Master of the Tusk Mountains!? WHAT HAVE THEY DONE TO YOU!?

The skeletal dragon smashes into your foe, dragging it to the ground. and savaging the white dragon with tooth and claw. It is a very short fight for the already injured dragon, who soon lays still and motionless. The skeletal dragon stands, now covered with blood, and regards you with cold, empty eye sockets before rising through the air and departing from where it came.

The necromancer at the 10-11 table really wanted to reanimate the dragon they fought... so we decided to use it for some dramatic exposition. You almost had it - I think those of you still standing after the dragon's full attack probably would have been able to kill it next round.
