Ha, Happy Holidays. Glad to see you covered all your bases their, Haladir/Lynnda.

Your humble narrator

I'm traveling for a few days starting tomorrow. I'm bringing my laptop, so I should be able to keep posting daily, but updates may be sporadic until the first.

Your humble narrator

I just received notice that I've been assigned as the GM of this campaign. I'm going to make a few cosmetic changes shortly.

Yes, I saw your name has finally been added to the campaign title.

Nice maps, btw! I like the reminders and markers added to show effects on creatures.

Thanks! The map is from the actual AP, modified slightly in MapTool to mask what you haven't yet explored.

Your humble narrator

This fight sure took a turn for the worse!

Pulling back the curtain a little...

As published, this encounter has 8 goblins plus Tsuto; Holden increased that number to 11. I decided to stick with Holden's higher number, but I'm kind of regretting that now!

Male Half Elf Investigator (Sleuth) 5 | HP: 28 | AC: 17/13/14 | Fort: +1 | Ref: +7 | Will: +5 | Init: +3 | Perception: 11 | Character Sheet

Well with 6 people, you can pump it up, but Tsuto shouldn't be fighting with them. Pulling a little GM knowledge, he's supposed to be by himself when we fight cause he stats are still a little high for level one parties to take on with all the other goblins.

Your humble narrator

Would everyone be sure to include their characters' Perception check modifiers in their character stat header? Thanks!

Male Human Techie 2 / Bureaucrat 6

Everyone: If you haven't already, please start thinking about how you will want to level up. You'll all have enough experience to be at Level 2 after this encounter is over.

Leveling Up
I'm not actually tracking XP; instead, I'm just going to tell you to level up after you've achieved specific goals in the campaign. There's no training or whatever; after a good night's rest, you wake up at the next level. As professional adventurers, your training is on the job.

Sources
Any options from the Core Rulebook, Advanced Player's Guide, Ultimate Magic, Ultimate Equipment, or the Inner Sea World Guide are fine by me. As is anything from Varisia: Birthplace of Legends.

If you want to take optitions from another Paizo PFRPG source, please run it by me first. I'll most likely allow it, but I want to be familiar with how it works before you use it.

I'm not that keen on most 3PP sources for character options, but if you're dying to use something, please send me a link and I'll consider it.

Rebuilding Characters
If you've come to the conclusion that your build choices aren't really working out, I'm fine with you changing things up. Just let me know what you want to do. I would ask that you not change the fundamental core of your character.

Statblocks
If you wouldn't mind, I would really appreciate it if you would all re-do your character profiles with statblocks in some semblance of the standard PFRPG statblock format. (You can use Lynnda's as a reference.) You don't need to hyperlink everything unless you want to. It'll make it much easier for me to reference your character sheets if I know where to look for things. No rush on that.

Home Rule (from my regular tabletop game)
Sorcerers gain their 3rd-level Bloodline spell at 2nd level instead. (L2 sorcerer really kind of sucks otherwise!)

Thanks!

Sorry, I forgot about Cerin's Overprotective drawback. I think it would only have affected his attacks since he went downstairs (which have both missed).

I have also been thinking about eventually taking the Master of Storms Prestige Class, if you will allow it. Do you think it would be a good fit for this campaign?

Male Human Techie 2 / Bureaucrat 6

Oh, yeah. I forgot everyone had drawbacks! You're right about it not making a difference in the combat. (Not that I would have retconned it anyway).

Master of Storms looks fine to me! Note that the prereqs include 6 ranks in each of two Knowledge skills, meaning that the soonest you could enter the prestige class is 7th level. You also lose your favored class bonus for character levels in a prestige class.

Yes, I just wanted to make sure it would work before I started taking the skills and feat for it.

Thanks!

I'll GMPC you through the end of this round, where the three of you can try to join the fight against Tsuto, and we'll pick it up there tomorrow.

Have fun in your IRL game tonight!

I'm in two IRL games...

Monday (weekly): I GM a semi-homebrew called Champions of Old Korvosa, which is a heavily modified version of TPK Games' The Reaping Stone, set in the city of Korvosa four years before the events of "Curse of the Crimson Throne." I've cut out a few chunks of that module (including the entire Part 4), grafted in some modified PFS scenarios and bits of other modules, and filled in the gaps with a liberal amout of homebrew material.

Stuff I've grafted into my Korvosa game...:

The Set Piece "St. Caspieran's Salvation" from Shadow in the Sky
A slightly-modified version of Rise of the Goblin Guild
A highly modified version of the encounter "Eel's End" from Edge of Anarchy
A highly modified version of the encounter "Hungry Are the Dead" from Seven Days to the Grave
A slightly modified version of Mists of Mwangi
a heavily modified version of the encounter area "Legacy of Wrath: Thassilonian Laboratories" from Shards of Sin
A particularly infamous trap/boon from Curse of the Lady's Light
And a whole bunch of traps inspired by/stolen from the "Mummy's Mask" AP.

The result is that my version of Korvosa has a few landmarks that are canonically in Magnimar, Riddleport, and the TPK Games' city of Maerh-Varza; my version of Korvosa's St. Alika is an amalgam of her plus the Maerh-Varzan historical figure St. Naratha. And, of course, Queen Ileosa isn't yet on the scene.

I'm a player in my other IRL game: "Skull and Shackles." My character is the first mate of the pirate ship Kraken's Breath. She's a gnome sorceress (elemental-water bloodline). That game meets on an ad hoc basis, usually on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon, about once a month or so.

Level 4 Tiefling Bard | Init +1 | HP 14/21 | AC 14 | S-/D+4/C+1/I+3/W-1/C+5 | Perc +0 | Insp [] | Bardic Insp 2/3 | 3/4x1st 1/2x2nd

My only RL game at the moment is AD&D2, where my Speciality Priest of Wee Jas has just finished the City of Skulls adventure.

I've taken the liberty of copying Lynnda's statblock and replacing it with Krissina's information (including Level 2 level ups), I'll replace it when we level up.

Your humble narrator

Hey,folks...

My posting rate may well be going down for the next few days. I've got a lot going on at work this week, and probably will end up working through lunch hour. Also, my IRL game is tonight.

Re: GMPCing...

Sorry for not being explicit about this...

If you've gone a day hours without a post, and everyone else has posted, I'll have your character take an obvious action, consistent with how the character has acted so far.

Please let me know if you feel I've been too quick to move your character for you, or if you think I didn't make the right choice.

Male Half Elf Investigator (Sleuth) 5 | HP: 28 | AC: 17/13/14 | Fort: +1 | Ref: +7 | Will: +5 | Init: +3 | Perception: 11 | Character Sheet

Eh, the only thing differently I would have done was add a little bit of background story element when Kyrian woke up, but it's fine. No worries there, you got his one liner pretty well.

Male Human Fighter 2; Init +1, Per +1; AC 21/12/19; HP 14/22 F+5, R+1, W+2 (+3 vs Fear)

You are just fine, Haladir. Been enjoying it. :)

Male Half Elf Investigator (Sleuth) 5 | HP: 28 | AC: 17/13/14 | Fort: +1 | Ref: +7 | Will: +5 | Init: +3 | Perception: 11 | Character Sheet

Feel free to GMPC me while I'm at work in combat to keep things moving forward if you need to.

Your humble narrator

Hey folks... thoughts on the chase mechanic?

Next time I run a chase, I'm thinking that I'll let a character having trouble with an obstacle take a full round action to overcome the obstacle and move onto the next card.

I've trawled through the Runelords board, and I haven't seen anyone else run a chase through the tunnels before! Congratulations on breaking new ground!

I like it! Though that may be partly due to the fact that Cerin has ranks in every skill that is involved so far... ;)

Money and Treasure

Here's how I tend to run money and treasure...

Buying and selling equipment
You can buy and sell items normally as per the Settlement rules. Unless I say otherwise, you can buy equipment at prices in the book, and sell equipment at 50% value. Selling at 50% book price takes a negligible amount of time.

You can try to sell a specific item for more than 50% sale value by finding a specific buyer. This takes time and some skill rolls. We can flesh it out the details if it comes up.

Gems, jewelry, art objects, trade goods, etc
Other items of intrinsic value will be listed at the price you can sell the item for. So, if you recover a pearl (100 gp), you can sell it for 100 gp.

If you want to buy items of intrinsic value for ease of transport, you would pay a 10% markup. So, if you wanted to buy that 100gp pearl, it would cost 110 gp.

For ease of bookkeeping, converting coins from one type to another doesn't cost anything. (Economically, there there should be a small transaction fee to convert, say, 50,000 cp to 50 pp. Assessing such a fee that always feels petty to me, so I don't bother.)

Coin weight
Coins are smaller than they are in the rules-- 150 coins weighs a pound. Normally, I'll say not to bother with tracking coin weight unless you need to transport a vast number of them.

Coin names
In my version of Magnimar, coins have the following names...

Platinum noble
Gold ducat
Silver shilling
Copper penny (plural "pence")

Most coins in circulation in Sandpoint were minted in Magnimar. It's not uncommon to see some foreign coins in circulation-- especially those of Korvosan or Chelish minting. All the lands of the Inner Sea have settled on the old Taldan Standard of coin size and value, and most coins are accepted at face value regardless of where the coin was minted.

Very old or exotic coins may be worth more than face value to a collector.

Hope her tattoo is someting awesome!

On an unrelated note, I'm having a hard time concentrating on work today while I wait for the announcement of who made it to Round 2 of RPGSS!

I know my item made it through the cull, so I'm somewhere in the running!

I've started sketching out my map submission on the outside chance that I made it to the Top 32... and even if I don't I can use the map in my other campaign.

It's pretty cool looking. Had to stop last night after 3 hours (they got started really late) and she'll have it finished here in a few weeks. It's a celtic band with a rose on top of it, with her mother's name and birthday (which was yesterday). She got it in memory of her as she passed away last year.

As to RPGSS, that's awesome and good luck!

Your humble narrator

Thanks!

I don't have any tats myself, although I do have both a design and an artist in mind. I even had her draw it on (no needle) a few years ago. The ink faded in about three weeks, and I thought it looked pretty cool while it lasted.

Maybe before I turn 50. We'll see.

Congrats and Good Luck! I didn't realize that we had a Star running this game. I haven't really followed the RPGSS in the past, is this your first submission?

Your humble narrator

Thanks!

This year was my second submission to RPGSS. Last year, my item landed on the unofficial RPGSS 2014 "top 100" list. Mine was the mantle of butterflies. At the same time, I see where that item had some problems and it really wasn't as good as any of the Top 32. I think I learned a thing or three from the excellent feedback I got on last year's entry.

Male Human Techie 2 / Bureaucrat 6

Alas, I did not make the RPGSS 2015 Top 32 or the alternates. Congratulations to the winners!

I'll post a link to my item tomorrow when I submit it to the "Critique My Item" thread.

Here's Mark Seifter's feedback.

What're we going with for health again?

Male Human Techie 2 / Bureaucrat 6
Kyrian Linwood wrote:

Oh, right!

I don't like rolling for hp. It's a "Yahtzee!" moment if you roll max, but really sucks if you roll a '1.'

Let's do "average roll, plus."

At each level, add a number of hp equal to your hit die's aveaage roll, rounded up. (Or, half the number of sides on the die, plus 1.) Then add your Con bonus, as usual.

So, that would be...

d6 = 4
d8 = 5
d10 = 6
d12 = 7
