By invitation at the moment.
Feel free to discuss characters, and what scenario you want to play!
DM Beckett |
Dot. I really have two characters I could bring.
Torrel the Sacred Exorcist |
This one, which Im more inclinded to for that scenario, or
DM Beckett |
I thought 8-05 might be interesting as at least 3 of us have military backgrounds in RL, which seems to be a lot of the root of the complaints for it.
(Not the military, but the set up in the scenario, I think)
DM Beckett |
I wouldn't mind, but I haven't actually run or played it, so I'm not sure that's what the issue a lot of folks had. Just assuming.
GM Batpony |
Both 8-05 and 8-16 are good options for me.
I'm in a relatively slow game of 8-05. So I'm not sure what the complain is, so far it's alright for me.
DM Snider |
i have a few characters but what will tier be
DM Beckett |

1st-5th, (probably low tier).
I'm in a relatively slow game of 8-05. So I'm not sure what the complain is, so far it's alright for me.
A lot of the earlier reviews suggested that it forced the characters to do things according to specific Skills and didn't allow entire class features (spells in particular) or you failed. It also suggested that characters got reprimanded and punished no matter what they did, and a lot of the challenges where essentially "do this one thing with only this one skill option or you fail. No, you can not use this, that, or the other instead."
I'm not really all that interest in this season's material, so I've just been reading the reviews before I purchase anything, but it seems like the later reviews suggest that this might not be the case for this one. So, I don't know. I'm personally okay with almost anything. The only one I've played from Season 8 is:
S8-07 - From the Tome of Righteous Repose
S8-01 - Portent's Peril (DM'd only)
Helgga |
Weee....new character!

Torrel the Sacred Exorcist |
It honestly does not matter to me.
8-06: Reaping what we sow, might be a better option for Helgga to try it out as Ive heard it was a bit more light hearted and investigation based.
GM Batpony |
It is indeed that from my experience. Although Turmoil has mentioned he has played it.
By my count we're at 4 players, Is everyone ok if I bring one more player into the picture?
DM Beckett |
Another player is fine by me. Id forgotten GM T said he had already played that one, so no big deal.
Anyone have issues with 8-05?
DM Snider |
I do plan on the bard. I also have a lvl 5 Rogue. I can play either and am fine with either. Jake might be down to play as well if we need another

Helgga is good for it, too.
GM Batpony |
Awenydd83 will be joining us! I'll post the intro soon, whenever you guys are ready we'll start!
Awenydd83 |
Hey guys! Glad to be able to join you. I have played for all of you I think.. its good to be alongside all of you for once!
Looks like we are going low tier.. any suggestions on what I should bring? I have several characters available from lvl 1 to 3, but I don't want to throw off the APL or step on Razzles toes.
Btw, Welcome to PbP Razzle!
Blood Eagle |
Im not sure us playing at high tier would be too bad, and my general idea is to embrace the PFS concept of a random group of agents showing up, so with that in mind, personally speaking at least, Id say play what you want to first and foremost.
Im guessing we will be light on Arcane. Ive heard its fairly skill heavy, but also not one that typical skill monkeys are good at, if that makes sense. However, because I dont want to have anything spoiled, I try not to read to much about it until Im actually going to run it, so I could be completely wrong.
Rogan Bloodaxe |
I think I'll try this guy out, still never played him. Unless everyone wants to play up, which I'm fine with, then I'll bring my swashtigator.
//Jazmine\\ |
Gm: I went ahead and listed both Jaz and Giggles on your dice template. I have played with a number of GM's that all have different views on Animal Companions and the mechanics.. Some place them under the characters roll, some give them their own roll. Some require the handle animal checks for trained skills (Attack, etc) some didn't. Just let me know what you want and how you want to do it, and I will adapt!
GM Batpony |
Jazmine are you of military background too? I'm not.. but most of the folk in here are!
With regards to animal companions, I prefer to keep player and animal on the same initiate block, unless player and animal have vastly different initiation (like +/- 5) then I'll give them their own. I don't require handle animal checks for most things, unless you are asking the animal to do something vastly complicated.
//Jazmine\\ |
Sounds good to me!
Re Military: Yea. That's cool though.. its not everyones bag.. nor should it be! I was a Navy Hospital Corpsman, stationed with the First Marine Division. I was laughing at the first comment about basic, and couldn't resist adding in my own two cents. Just out of curiosity, What other branches are represented here? Beckett, I seem to recall you are/were Army, correct?
Giacomo Casanova |
Becket and I are stationed together and turmoil just left us

Ya I met turmoil on Cq and got him into it then

lmao.. the closest that I had to this was there was one guy in my room that owned a Xbox 360 and bought the Elder Scrolls: Oblivion game. That game got passed around the barracks like.. well.. lets keep this PG! Anyways, seeing the interest that this game had, I tried to talk to a couple of people about starting a D+D group but it didn't go over well. It seemed that once you took the controller out of their hands and tried to make them think about something other than cars or guns, my Marines reverted to chimpanzees or something!
DM Beckett |
And happy to be back in New England, I did not love Texas.
Blasphemy!!!! Texas is the greatest country in the world.

Interesting, my last deployment was with a team of Corpsmen and Marines. I had attempted to start up a PFS group out of our clinic, (work hours just made it not work), but I heard that the marines on post had a D&D 4E game going of "Marines vs Dragons", where essentially half the world had been taken over by dragons, and, . . . surprise, surprise, the other half was run by Marines fighting back, similar to a Warhammer 4k setup.
Awenydd83 |
Turmoil: Oh.. you wound me to the quick!!! Lmao! Although I now live in the Midwest, I will always be a Texas boy. Spent most of my life in and around San Antonio. However, I will agree that both Ft Hood and Ft Bliss are very high in my no-go list. I haven't spent enough time out that ways to be able to say that they are worse than 29 Palms and its environs, but I hear that the competition for worst would be pretty close.
Becket: Glad to see another Texan!
I am rolling.. that is so typical of Marines!! I heard of a few gaming groups on base, but never got hooked up with any. I just never crossed the right paths, I guess.
GM Turmoil |
Texas had some parts I liked, but it just wasn't home, and Killeen is an absolute dump. I really enjoyed hill country, especially down around Fredricksburg. And I had some fun in Austin and San Antonio, the riverwalk is amazing on a summer night. But I'm born and raised in New England and I need four seasons and mountains and snow. I've actually passed up a couple really good job offers recently just because my wife and I insist on staying in the area.
Blood Eagle |
Sorry, I was trying to be funny. I just meant that the general idea is that Pathfinders are suppossed to be trained and treated like dirt for a few years before their Confirmation if they are not Field Comissioned. And that different VCs are known for certain things; Dreng waking you up at midnight for a briefing, Shela withholding information, Shane ignoring you.
I was nit implying I am bored, only that my character was with the hours of menial labor. :p

Sorry for the long delay. Wife had surgery friday and she didnt get released when anticipated and I have been with her. She is home now and all should be on a track back to normal
//Jazmine\\ |
I believe that I owe all of you an apology for my erratic posting this week. It has been a rough couple of weeks on the homefront, and this week has seen a number of upsets to my normal schedule. Hopefully, things will have settled out and I can return to a more normal pace, both in life and in my gaming.
Blood Eagle |
Same here. I've been working really long hours preparing for a deployment, and the wife is just finishing up this semester. I have not had a lot of time to help her with posting, but hopefully we should be freed up more in the near future.

Does NL mean negative levels?

As mentioned, its referring to Non-Lethal damage, attacks that are designed to knock someone out rather than kill them. Normally, most people have to take a -4 to their attack roll and specify they want to deal mon-lethal damage, because they are purposefully holding back and using their weapon in an inappropriate way, such as the blunt flat side of a sword to hit.
In this case, because our weapons are training weapons, they automatically deal Non-lethal damage with no penalty. Non-Lethal damage works similarly to Lethal (normal) damage in many ways, but instead of dying when yiur HP drops too low, you get knocked out instead. Non-Lethal also heals much faster.

I'm just mentioning this OOC, because I don't want it to ruin the game.
I'm kind of getting the impression we are supposed to be suspicious that someone has been making things more challenging for us, (adding poison to the area fight, rocks on top of the wall, a mud pit to (maybe) mess with swimmers, oiling the log, etc. . .), except that's kind of what you do with real obstacle coursed.
Present something that seems simple and add things to it to make it more challenging, people think of alternate solutions, or work together to achieve the goal.
If that is the case, I guess I just don't see these things as any way wrong or abnormal in the overall circumstances, (a bunch of new recruits that already have some training and expertise), and I imagine that the PFS did exactly the same thing when we went through.
Thoughts? And again, I'm not trying to ruin the game here, just sort of thinking out loud. :)
GM Batpony |
I don't think it would ruin the game if you mentioned it in character actually.
I'll keep quiet on this discussion as I don't want to spoil anything, but feel free to take your time to discuss this all you want. :)
DM Beckett |
Just wanted to give everyone a head's up. I'll be leaving to "the field" on the 3rd to approx. the 25th. I don't expect this to change my availability before then, and during that time, minus a day for travel back and forth, I expect to have posting capabilities. BUT, I will not know until I get there just what sort of internet access I will have. Possibly none, and possibly a great deal.
I tend to have fairly good internet, but, like I said, I really will not know until I get there. We are going out to the field to train for the upcoming deployment, and so I do expect to be rather busy, but no more than I have been the last few weeks, and likely even less so.
Just in case, please feel free to bot me if needed, and I'll let you know when I arrive if I am able to post.
