This is the discussion thread.

Hello everyone. Please roll 1d100 so that we can get teams set up. If you roll the same number as someone before you then roll again.

Once everyone has rolled, we will split off into teams and make characters (in new, separate, discussion threads).

If you want to secretly start your character now, make an alias and please use this statblock. It's already formatted for Paizo forums, so just copy+paste it into your alias's profile and then fill in the fields. I need to have a standard statblock for everyone so that I can put them into the program I'll be using and can find everything quickly. It will also help me ensure everything is legal, since this will be a PVP game that's going to be important.

If you have another statblock that's very similar to mine, I might allow it. But start work using another statblock at your own risk, because I might make you redo it into my format.

During combat, I will roll intiative for all the PCs and creatures involved. Then I will average the rolls of each team to create a team initiative. Then all the members of that team act on its initiative, in whatever order they post in. This has an impact on strategy, so remember that if you want a buff from the cleric, not to post that you charge away from him before he posts. Or to at least say "I delay until X goes, then..."

I'd like combat posts to be formatted as follows:
==========================================================
Grigory charges across the field, his platemail clanking. He raises his greatsword in two hands above his head, and lets out a battle cry. Today the Lord in Iron will view me and be pleased, he thinks as he closes with the orcs. Swinging the blade down, he cuts through the first greenskin's shoulder, shattering its clavicle and tearing a lung in half. "HaHA!" Grigory cries in triumph as a line of warm orcish blood splashes across his face.
______________________________________________

Full round action; Charge the closest orc.
Attack on Orc #1 (charge, power attack, furious focus): 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 8 + 2 = 14
Damage: 2d6 + 6 + 3 ⇒ (4, 5) + 6 + 3 = 18

===========================================================

That is, 3rd person narrative "fluff/RP" description of your actions first, then a line of underscores, then OOC description of your actions and the accompanying dice rolls. Notice that speech is bolded, and thougts are italicized. That's pretty standard for PBP here. Also, please try to follow the rule of three: I want to know what your character is thinking, saying and doing. This just makes things more interesting than endless shitty one sentence descriptions of "I attack X".

Note on the statblock: If you want to add a segment for spells, or hexes, or whatever class feature that's fine. If you don't have a reference image that's fine too, just delete that. Here's and example of one of my characters that uses this statblock.

1d100 ⇒ 31

And stat block : I have herolab

Herolab should be fine, it's pretty similar to mine if I'm not mistaken.

I don't want to play with people who don't post, so I'm going to give 24 hours from now for the other people to check in. If they don't, I'll open up recruitment again and get some other people.

(Not saying you need to have character done in 24 hours, just a simple check in post is fine)

1d100 ⇒ 85

Checking in

Just need Ashe now.

Language and two other things are from a different book which HL does not accommodate at the moment. When making my character i will link the option

so rolled a 71 over on the other page, as my post wouldn'g post here trying again with this one.

cool working now. Jelani did you get my PM?

Hey, the gang's all here!

So, a few questions. First, in the recruitment writeup on gear, you wrote:

Recruitment OP wrote:
Wealth: 3,000 GP each. No more than 2,000 on one item. No crafting other than consumable items. Partially charged wands are okay.

Does this mean anything that's "consumable" (i.e. is used once then gone/destroyed) can be crafted for cheaper? If so, will you need to see rolls for the attempts for each separate item?

Similarly, I'm assuming if we purchase/craft consumables and use them in a round, that expense is forever held against the character's budget? Basically, we're not going to be refunded the price of our used consumables, correct?

Thirdly, how will wealth work in general? If we switch up gear from one round to the next, will we be able to sell-back at full value? Or is the usual 1/2 price sell-back in effect?

And can we loot stuff from killed opponents? If so, does it remain on our character sheet after the round is over? Or is it PFS style where we can use it in the game, but once the round is over, it reverts back off our character sheet?

If you want to craft something, you have to be able to do it by taking 10 on any necessary rolls.

You will not regain the expense of your consumables, no.

Sell back will be 50%, but items can be upgraded by paying the difference. Even things like composite bows or whatnot.

Yes you can loot from foes, but it will be PFS style. The loot taken from killed PCs will disappear between each round.

Team 1: Eben, Sarpadian, Ashe

Team 2: Seth86, Wondering_Monster, Whack-a-Rogue

I will be PMing everyone shortly with links to their team's discussion thread. Once there you can start discussing characters.

Cool. Cool.

Oof. Heating up now, fellas. :D

We have our first fallen gladiator. I think I'm going to maintain a list of the fallen in the campaign info tab. For posterity/reference sake.

Ouch. No one could have withstood that one-two of ice and flurry. It had to be someone, man. :/

As to the Fallen entries, can I suggest that their name, class, and the manner in which they died be included (as well as who killed them)?

For instance for Zinkov, it could be:
Zinkov the Antipaladin. Frozen by Isaac Kohl, shattered by Jing Long.

Just a thought. :)

Meh. I prefer to just keep a list. I'm lazy.

Lol. no problem.

Also (assuming the game keeps rolling, cuz i'm having fun) I really hope I don't have to roll against Jing Long. O.o

Vitals:
HP: 27/27 | AC: 21; T: 21; FF: 17; CMD: 15 (+5 vs grapple) | Fort: + 4; Ref: +7; Will: +8 | Init: +4; Perc: 21; Stealth: 25

Same here. He seems to be like me: some crazy multiclass build. Rage + I assume FoB = awesome power. Now to see if Team 2 can pull off the impossible and steal the ultimate come-from-behind victory!

Oof. That would be a feat at this point.

So William Dienow got taken out with a freaking net before I could do anything. I hate a real oh Sh** moment.

Those bastard goblins! It is a rough way to eat it. Then again, that was mostly just a stalling tactic to get Jing (the explode-inator) into melee with you.

Also, to have them on-book if I need another character for rd 2...
3d4 + 5 ⇒ (4, 2, 4) + 5 = 15
3d4 + 5 ⇒ (2, 4, 4) + 5 = 15
3d4 + 5 ⇒ (4, 3, 2) + 5 = 14
3d4 + 5 ⇒ (1, 1, 4) + 5 = 11

Sczarni

M

3d4 + 5 ⇒ (2, 3, 2) + 5 = 12
3d4 + 5 ⇒ (4, 3, 2) + 5 = 14
3d4 + 5 ⇒ (2, 2, 1) + 5 = 10
3d4 + 5 ⇒ (1, 2, 2) + 5 = 10

The dice god hate me.

Yah, it'd even the playing field more if these were rolled or pre-determined stat arrays.

Bah! It'll make less and less difference the higher level we go. The difference between the two sets of rolls is not going to change any outcomes when you're guaranteed a 20 in one stat with racials if you want it. Build strength, and the items you purchase/use will have a much greater effect. That and the luck of the initiative/perception dice in many cases I suspect.

Round 1 has concluded! Team 1 was the winner. New teams will be formed and round 2 will commence as soon as everyone has posted with their main message board alias and rolled a 1d100 to confirm they are ready to proceed. Then we will split into teams, and I will review characters in each team's discussion thread. That way character builds stay as secret as possible until you're on your team (unless you don't care if the competition has your stats, then it matters less).

For some reason it's not allowing me to roll dice in this post, but I got a 96.

1d100 ⇒ 96

nvm ... was able to edit it back in.

Apparently, you have to have some text and not just a die roll for posting to work.
1d100 ⇒ 62

Sczarni

M

I am ready to die gloriously for the honor of my team.

1d100 ⇒ 91

Rolling 1d100 ⇒ 43

Male (he/him) Aberration (bodysnatcher)

I'm updated and ready to go. Hopefully it'll go better for my team this time.
1d100 ⇒ 25

Whack, you the rat?

Male (he/him) Aberration (bodysnatcher)

Yeah

EDIT: sneaky Scout/Sniper doesn't do so well when the rest of his team's dead. :-(

Sczarni

M

Yea that went not as planned.

Yah, but sheesh. I don't know what i'd have done in yall's shoes, either. My teammates just hit SO HARD.

I was just around to futz with you guys while they one-shot you.

Sczarni

M

I am the one that got netted. That shut me down completely before I could even do anything.

I will take credit for that. :)

Male (he/him) Aberration (bodysnatcher)

Yeah, it kind of sucked. I can hit pretty hard, but it involves Kirin Style, so I need a couple rounds of prep whenever combat starts. Unfortunately, our tank got one-shotted. I'd hoped that I'd be able to escape the ropes and track down the monster while your team went flag-hunting, but silk rope's rather nasty. I'll do a bit more pre-buffing next round.

Character is finished!

1d100 ⇒ 35

In case it's helpful for Jelani:

Eben theQuiet 96
Wondering Monster 91
Sarpadian 62
Ashe 43
Crustypeanut 35
Whack-a-Rogue 25

Yah, i like the idea of Kirin style, but 2 rounds to see the offensive benefit? That's a bit rough for me. Not undoable, but it's hard to count on.

And yah, Jing's a beast. And while you didn't get to see it as much, Isaac also packs quite the punch.

Male (he/him) Aberration (bodysnatcher)

Hence the scout role. I can activate it before combat starts, then make the Knowledge check on Round One. I succeed on a 5+. The problem during our match (besides Jing and the net) was I rolled a 3 and wasted a round. Normally, I'd be using offensive cantrips (1d3+13 damage) to disrupt spellcasting.

Can you? I was unaware you could adopt a stance outside of combat.

Male (he/him) Aberration (bodysnatcher)

Surprise Round

EDIT: You can also make the argument that combat has started but one party doesn't realize it yet (aka setting up an ambush). The "can't adopt a stance outside of combat" rule was made so people wouldn't do munchkiny things like run around constantly in Dragon Style to ignore difficult terrain.
