Being ignored, Jez reaches over her shoulder to loosen the sword hung there, just in case it became necessary to use it.

Incredulous the Jarl looks at Attalas

Uh? What? You want what? My sword? What if I don't want to give you my sword?

even though the answer might be quite obvious, the Jarl does either underestimate Attalas stupidity or greediness^^

"Then we get all the treasure, simple as that. You like one bit per person, you do it first. Don't get upset now that I see the true value here, I'm no really dumb ogre. Sword. I will be a Jarl"

Mobo stops jingling for a moment to pull out Boomstick.

She may not be the sharpest, but being the ignored token female (ok, there is another female but she has been really quiet recently), Jez carefully watches the Jarl trying to pick up on any tells that he may give as to his response.

Luckily the pesky monsters don't concentrate on one of you but disperse and each of them attacks a different member of your party.

Ignoring the mephits, Jez once more swings at the Jarl hoping to distract him and allow Attalas to get in a good shot.

On his turn, Kosti tries to ignore the mephit and scorch the Jarl. He casts defensively, and I added one more concentration check in case Kosti is hit.

Mobo is furious at the mephit jamming his gun, gnashing his teeth and spouting several Goblin obscenities he brandishes his dogslicer.

Ah well, I really have to think about upping the EL levels by 10 or something...;)

The jarl goes down after two masterful strokes of Ragnvald, Jez and Attalas...6 gashing wounds is too much - even for a being of his power.

With an unearthly scream of pain and anger, the Jarl transforms into a gaseous red vortext that disappears within heartbeats...the mephits, shocked by their master's death quickly scatter and flee.

Suddenly silence is everything on the plains, only broken by the cracking of the ice behind you.

"I'm Jarl now!"

Attalas looks dead pleased with himself, and gathers up the loot.

"Wot way to town?"

Looking around nervously, expecting a restored Jarl or something worse to show up at any moment, Kosti gathers the book and the magic trinket.

Sure, go on, up the antes, I don't feel useless enough during combat yet ;-)

Ragnvald allows the ogre his celebrations as he turns to the elven thief. "Retrieve your mate if she yet lives. Tell this tale of the jarl's fall to all you meet. Tell how his armies were turned against him, how he was freed to take one last glimpse of the sun, before the wrath of his would be saviors cut him down for valuing wealth over the freedom he so desired."

Scooping up the dropped and forgotten vernal key off the ground he wipes it off and sticks it in his pack. "Gather the loot and let's head back. We have tales of our victory to spread and wealth to throw at ale, and women and sharper weapons against our enemies."

Can we get a full tally of all the gold and everything we dragged out? BEaring in mind we'll probably come back for the rest...

As for the encounter thing. The reason we're crushing them so hard is because it's one guy versus 3 guys with big strength scores, buffs, and very big swords. It's a lot of damage to come down on one guy.

Yep, easily replicated by most parties. My Ranger (Bloodless) isn't that hardcore, but an Enlarge and a couple of buffs and he destroys things. The joys of Martials at the early game!

I wonder where the Jarl's three big strength buddies are...:)
