Your Humble Narrator

Fenna, your mantle of moonlight ability will force him into his humanoid form- this will also suppress the rage and feeding desires. Effectively this will mean you will be dealing with the human Kundal, not his lycanthrope, for the duration of the ability. You don't think the city wizard knows any more than you do on the subject.

Yep, my plan is to get some masterwork manacles (I'm assuming that mithril ones aren't available on short notice) and have him put them on once he's in human form so that he's restrained when he turns back... 24 seconds isn't really enough time to secure him more thoroughly.

Casimir takes the ear from Fenna and turns it over in his hands.

That should be easy to ascertain, Little Mother.

He removes the ear-ring from the bloody lump and the wraps the remains of the ear in a handkerchief and places it in his pouch. Holding up the ear-ring, he says. Come, let us ask Marius and his girls if they recognize this. If it belonged to Saki, one of them will surely remember.

After questioning the innkeeper and his serving staff, Casimir accompanies Fenna outside to join the search for the werewolf.

I see your point Fenna. Being under a curse such as this or any other form of magical compulsion is surely extenuating circumstances for any crime. However, we should not be blind to the dangers that this man poses to all of us, nor to the fact that we have no means of curing him, or even holding him securely. Don't forget that he may pass on this terrible condition to those he bites. Killing him may prove a mercy.

With that, Casimir focuses on stalking the shape-shifting killer from the shadows.

Marius and the other serving girls confirm the ear-ring was Saki's.

Make that foul man burn... Marius whispers as you leave the Lonely Hippogriff.

Standing near his friends with his hand attached to his blade ,

What do you mean he can pass this along to someone it bites? Can it pass some kind of curse or disease to others?
Gods, this scourge of a beast could start an epidemic in the city under the right conditions! If it was going hunting in the Narlmarches, would it make sense that the beast would probably come back to enter the city from the West or the North? Maybe we should give it easier prey, like myself, as a lure? If I am walking around alone in town being followed by you from a distance, it will hear me from a mile away most like. Also get me some fresh mutton, I will walk around with a large leg in my hand and maybe it will smell me as well!

I will use my useless perception skill to try and help someone else spot it, most likely Fenna. Perception 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (11) - 1 = 10

As one of you has definitely met his stealth check (he got 25 so its a good thing Fenna has that Ioun stone...) i'll roll for Kalev. Only Fenna will be acting in the surprise round, unless Kalev's roll exceeds 24.

1d20 + 12 ⇒ (19) + 12 = 31

Ok, Kalev's acting too. The rest of you spot the beast when Fenna points it out, but not in time to act as quickly as the werewolf... My next post will be a surprise round to resolve with a map.

Moving around the city, the streets are eerily quiet as the curfew keeps everyone indoors. Once in a while you pass a guard post, lit by torchlight with nervous militia keeping vigil. Your very presence walking the streets reassures them, and the nervous townsfolk who dare to peek out of windows during the tense evening. After an hour of searching, a shadowy lupine figure is draped in an alleyway near Talamon's Taps- almost on the edge of the city. It's red eyes glow menacingly from the alleyway as the beast is spotted by Kalev and Fenna... Before it leaps to attack...

The werewolf charges forward at the Guardians, eager to slaughter and feast upon their flesh. The werewolf is larger even than Kalev, with thick layers of muscle all over. The werewolf stands upon two legs and is wearing hide armour and tattered remains of clothing broken when the change came over him- it seems that it prefers to hunt in its hybrid form...

Mere seconds after Fenna and Kalev point the wolf out, it surges from the alleyway at them, swinging its greataxe with gusto, howling to the moon as it attacks in a frenzy, frothing at the mouth and hacking with wild abandon. It moves to a position where it can attack both Malthir and Kalev and makes one gigantic swing to hit both of them, the strength behind the blows mighty.

Yanking his enchanted mithril dueling sword from it's scabbard, Casimir deftly circles the beast to get at it from behind. Confident that the silvery metal of his blade can overcome the werewolfs natural resistance, he swings at it's furry back.

Had his extra damage and attack roll penalty from power attack calculated wrong, but i'll fix it not to worry ;).

Roaring in pain from the blade that cuts through it, the werewolf steps up to Fenna and Kalev and makes a hefty swing to cut them both. Fenna is cut by the axe, but Kalev escapes unscathed.

I think you need a pair of touch attacks with that, since it's two rays.

Your Humble Narrator

Yup, two ranged touch attacks please. From where you are theres no cover but a -4 penalty on both touch attacks due to firing into melee.

Your Humble Narrator

Fenna you can go ahead and post your action- should both of Ilya's rays hit (quite likely) it still won't drop wolfie...

Fenna lets out a low hiss as the axe blade cuts into her, and stumbling slightly, she begins a prayer "let this beast's violent heart be soothed by the presence of the Last Azlanti."

As she finishes a soft silvery light begins to shine from her hand, which she thrusts towards the enraged wolf-man before her. The speed of the creature is to great however, and it easily twists aside before Fenna steps away from its onslaught.

Touch attack 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

Moonlight mantle touch attack, then 5' step to AE72.

Edit: Well, I'm guessing a 9 is a miss anyway, but he does seem to be using cleave...

Your Humble Narrator

Actually 9 is exactly a hit. Cleave + Rage penalty.

Fenna reaches out to touch the werewolf, her hand catching his snout as it retracts from her glowing hand. With a piteous howl, the werewolf claws and flails at itself furiously, shrinking into a half-naked Kellid man. The man glances at all of you in confusion, and at the bloody axe in his hands.

Wha... he stutters in confusion, looking down at the blood spilling over the cobblestones.

Is this a dream? he asks softly...

That was close. We take no chances with him.

We strip him of his equipment and lock him away in the Castle dungeon.(assuming we have at least a couple of cells we built with it) to be sure we knock him upside the head one more time to make sure he doesn't awaken before morning.

When they get back to the Castle, Fenna, do you think you can cure him before the next moon?
I guess we must find out how he came to be this way and make sure it didn't happen in Kardas. I would hate to think there are more of these things out there spreading this curse or disease or whatever it is. Next we must decide his fate. In a way he has slain 2 of our citizens. What do we tell our people, its okay, he didn't really do it, we have cured him? Is that justice? Is it justice to kill the man even though he wasn't in control of himself? I don't know the answer to these questions...

In my view, this man is as much a victim in this matter as those who have died at the hands of the beast confined within him. Sorry about those attack rolls, work is crazy.

I'm not so sure about a public trial, Fenna. Though we understand that this man did not act of his own accord, our frightened public may not know, let alone care. What if we bring him into the open and the families of the victims cry for his blood? Storm the stage and lynch him in the town square? Will our words sway them when their loved ones have been taken? I think the best thing to do is hide him until we find a cure. We can make declarations that the werewolf was killed in combat and use public funds to help comfort the families of the victims. As time passes and no new murders occur, everyone will start to calm down and be satisfied. Once he is cured, we smuggle him out of town and send him on his way."

"If we lie to them and they learn of the deceit, they will feel betrayed--and rightly so, we may rule over the lands of Kardas, but we do so based on the trust of its people."

Casimir lends Akrios his magical sword, so he will have a weapon that can hurt the beast if it should break free.

I am not one for deceiving our subjects in this matter. But I agree that a public trial is probably not the way to go about it. I say we let the council judge in this matter, and use the decision to set down a precedent for future cases of werewolves and other acts committed under magical compulsion. After we reach a decision, we can make a public deceleration.

After all, there could be a day when it is one of us who has done some unspeakable deed because of enchantments or other dark magic.

As for finding a cure, let us get our brightest minds to the books and see if they can work something out.
