Leveling is as stated in the players handbook for 5e. At levels where you get a stat boost, you may opt to take a feat instead.

Posting to all my games
Just wanted to inform you all that I am currently wading through a veritable swamp of work, obligations, and schooling. As such, for the next two weeks of I do not guarantee my usual posting rate but will attempt to update games when I am able.
Happy Holidays.
Galador Imrael |
The funeral rites are simple, and with the late Burgomaster laid to rest, Donovich offers his silver goblet to Galador.
"The only possession of value I have, once brought to your lips will let you drink deeply of wine. Not the best kind, but the alcohol is real. Perhaps you'll need it.
Sorry, I was going over some old posts and just noticed this. Did Donovich actually give Galador the silver goblet?
(To my head he just offered it but didn't really give it, since it wasn't stated explicitly, but now I see that I may have been wrong about that. ^_^)Vasilios Teras |
I've nearly tapped all my resources and we still haven't downed the first hag... only me thinking the encounter is a bit... hard? We might think about running, you know...
Victor von Gladden |
See I knew we should have just burned it down!
Victor von Gladden |
It most likely is/was protected from that Victor.
Although I did call that going there was a bad idea. I'll do my 'I told you so' in the discussion, cause Casdin is far too politic to say anything =P
Quite possibly but that does not mean we can't try :-)
Galador Imrael |
*nods* Mind you, I thought about this, and we really can -not- run. If we run from this, then we'll never fight again.
Think about it. This is just a random encounter, and if we can't handle this, then every time we face a foe, the DM will just be like "Yeah, well, these guys are Level + 1 of you, so you can't take them."
Now, I'm not even touching the rightness or wrongness of having a 4th level party face 3 5th level monsters, I'm just saying that if we can't handle this tough encounter, we'll all become pacifists, because apparently we're always outclassed. (srsly, we haven't had a normal, winnable fight since this kicked off.)
DM Default |
To be fair, this isn't a random encounter at all, You've had a couple random encounters already which just happened to be non-combat when I rolled for them. The raven was specifically there to warn you guys that this is a bad, bad place but it was decided you would approach anyway.
For the most part, I'm following the adventure book pretty accurately. Its just that unlike an MMO, the areas you visit aren't necessarily level dependent and you can encounter creatures/enemies that are out of your current league.
Add on the fact that this is Curse of Strahd (the spiritual successor to Ravenloft) and its supposed to be kinda grim.
Does anyone want more clarification? I can pull back the DM veil a bit more if you think I'm being unfair or kinda brutal....
Vasilios Teras |
No, I didn't think so. I just thought we might have stepped where we shouldn't have to and, though we had no way to know (seriously, no one believes an NPC raven :P), now we do have a way to evade (or so I think). But Vasilios will leave no one behind - we all run or we don't run at all.
Galador Imrael |
With that said, they -are- child murderers. I'm not sure how Galador could mentally justifying taking such a beating and then running like whipped dog, tactically disadvantageous as it is.
Also, who are we waiting on? Is that the round?
Victor von Gladden |
Fine for me not all battles go well for the PC's!
If one does not fall this round I say we beat feet!
Sheva Callister |
I'm with Galador on this one. Sheva's not going to just let them keep murdering children without some kind of retribution. I say we keep fighting unless we're backed into a corner.
DM Default |
Just so I'm not misleading, I'll usually hint at when you gotten an enemy down below half health by describing how wounded or tired they look.
Rascal "Raz" Stormshadow |
We all run! We can ALWAYS choose to come back later! Maybe even leading a mob of peasants with pitchforks and torches.
Not every battle is winnable - even if we drop one? We will be close to dead and needing to fight two more. Please? Lets just run.
Victor von Gladden |
Meh. At this point I feel like we've taken their best punch and have them on the ropes even more than we are.
...And if someone wanted to wake me up, that would be great right now. =)
I would agree if Razz were not at 1 HP and you were not down to 20. One hag is not even harmed yet, I think we flee and come back better prepared to fight these hags!

Sorry for the lack of updates, my schedule has me out of the house (and away from my source books) largely from 8:30am - 11:30pm. Goes on for another couple weeks, but should be able to sneak in an update here or there in the meantime.

Yay! More orientation shifts at work for me! (sarcasm) But in all seriousness, you will see some slowdown on my part in updates, but please but assured I will not go dark on you or abandon any games. I'll update when I can but between schoolwork, internship work, and work work, I'm gonna be a bit swamped. Should hopefully have more consistent breathing room sometime between one and two weeks.
DM Default |
Updates tomorrow, if I don't collapse. (joke, but seriously glad I have tomorrow off-ish)
DM Default |
Just to keep you all in the loop, during the no-new-notification incident (where forum games weren't alerting folks to updates), I had a member of my family pass on.
As such, I feel it fair to inform you that I updates might take longer than usual (which I know, is plenty long of a wait already) and if you feel the need to drop out of a game I'm DMing or drop me from a game I'm participating in, I understand.
That said, I do hope to update within a couple days as I could use the distraction as the usual business of these events tend to warrant. Thank you for your understanding.
Life moves on eventually. I just need some time.
