Discussion thread.

Play PACG Play-by-Post? Feel free to use my custom Deck Handler. An index of my other Deck Handlers can be found here.

Evening all! Checking in.

I've got everything prepared except a character and starting deck; I'm looking to round out the team in whatever way I can. For reference, I own the following Class Decks:

Yewstance's current Class Deck options:
Class/Character Decks
  • Monk
  • Barbarian
  • Inquisitor
  • Alchemist
  • Oracle
  • Magus
  • Summoner
  • Hunter
  • Goblins Fight
  • Goblins Burn
  • Occult Adventures 1
  • Occult Adventures 2
  • Pathfinder Tales
  • Hell's Vengeance 1
  • Hell's Vengeance 2

Ultimate Add-On Decks

  • Ultimate Combat
  • Ultimate Magic
  • Ultimate Intrigue
  • Ultimate Equipment* (On order/being delivered)

I've got quite a list of characters I'd like to try, and I'm intrigued by the options of the Hell's Vengeance decks where I can play a little more directly with the Corrupted boons of the season, but I've got no shortage of other class decks I'd be interested in using!

Statistician 7.5 +/- 1.5 (95% Confidence Interval)

Checking in too.

Currently thinking I'd like to play Erasmus the Medium from Occult Adventures 2.

Deck Handler // Searching For: TBD

As tempted as I was by the Hell's Vengeance decks in a SotR game... I've also played a bit of both decks thanks to Season 4's 'substitute' character rules, and I'd like to try out as many of my decks as possible.

So whilst I'm not usually a big fan of the Druid/Ranger/Hunter archetypes, I'm picking the hunter Ukuja to play. Haven't set up my Deck Handler and such yet, and I won't start with any Ultimate Add-On deck, since I'll be waiting for the Ultimate Wilderness Add-On.

The Exchange

I'll be playing Amaryllis from the Sorcerer deck, with the Ultimate Magic deck as an add-on. Still working on building my deck, and I'm not sure how to make it look like I'm my character (or how to get the deck handler into the top of my post).

I had the same problem when I joined Outpost; I think explicit instructions aren't given because they assume most PACG players play normal Pathfinder play-by-post, which I've never done.

You achieve it by first making an Alias - go to your Account Settings, scroll down and press 'create new alias' - and give your alias a name (like "Amaryllis - Void_Eagle"). Pick your avatar image, then go to the profile of the alias itself after its made. (much like if you select my name, you're sent to Ukuja's profile, rather than my normal profile of Yewstance).

By selecting the profile tab whilst you've got your alias selected, you can modify its details like Gender, Race, Name, etc. Some of these fields show up underneath your character name, and you can even put links in them {url=LINK}Deck Handler{/url}, just replace the curly brackets with square brackets. You might have to play around to get them showing up in the order you want, or select someone else's profile to see how they've got it set up.

In my case, I use the "Gender" field for my Deck Handler link, which is the only real important information.

Regarding Avatar selection:
Annoyingly, there's some bug with the filters on the avatar selection database. If you use any of the filters, it seems to only pick out images that have been in there for years, and none of the ones uploaded in, say, the last 2 years or so. Probably an indexing issue that was never fixed, but I've already reported it.

If you don't see any pictures you want when you're looking at sorcerers or the like, try turning off all filters, sorting by Date (so it's newest to oldest) and dig through the pages one at a time until you find something you like. That was how I found this avatar, since I couldn't find one that was any closer to Ukuja that I liked.

Character Deck Upgrade Prefs: Spell 4 > Weapon 4 > Item 4/3 > Ally 3/2 > Blessing 4/3/2

That was a cool tip about sorting by date, Yewstance. I hadn't thought of that before and actually found a couple of cool avatars for some of my characters that I hadn't seen before.

You're welcome! Same for me. If you're playing a Hell's Vengeance character, for example, they're inaccessible via filters. Same with most Occult Adventures characters, even the iconic Estra. There's about 6 or 7 Estra pictures in the database (plus 2 for Honaire), but there's a grand total of 0 if you actually try to filter by anything.

Deck Handler // Looking for: Spell 3 > Spell 3 > Ally 3 > Blessing 3 > Spell B

OK, I think I have it set up correctly now, thanks for the help. I just need to actually decide what goes in my deck. :)

Deck Handler // Searching For: TBD

I think Amaryllis needs to link a shared/read-only version of her Deck Handler; right now we can't see it without signing in and requesting permission.

Easiest way is, from the Deck Handler, press the 'share' button in the top-right, then copy that link (by default, it'll only share read-only permissions) to use in your profile.

Deck Handler // Looking for: Spell 3 > Spell 3 > Ally 3 > Blessing 3 > Spell B

That's what I thought I did, but I'll try it again.

Deck Handler // Searching For: TBD

Seems to work now, for the record. It certainly didn't earlier; weird.

Deck Handler // Looking for: Spell 3 > Spell 3 > Ally 3 > Blessing 3 > Spell B

I may have messed something up the first time. In case it's not obvious, I'm still fairly new to this. :)

Deck Handler // Searching For: TBD

Looks good to me!

As mentioned, I'd like one of the more charismatic members of the team go for the powerful Fortune-Teller ally before it slips through our fingers... but on the other hand, I don't have a strong stake in the matter, I now realize, since I'll be claiming the Weapon B I've already acquired before I look for an Ally 1.

I can't say I'm a big fan of the Promo boons, solely because they're one more AD0 boon to sift through when looking for good loot, but that's largely personal preference. It does add a bit of variety, and I like the Pig From Hell.

Deck Handler // Looking for: Spell 3 > Spell 3 > Ally 3 > Blessing 3 > Spell B

Because there's a bury required to move back to the Cloister, I'd prefer to remain here until it's closed, but I'll head over to the Fortune Teller as soon as it's closed. Or, if everyone would really prefer it sooner, I'll move there on my next turn.

I did omit the Character Add-On deck since there are only 3 players, so the lack of a C deck means you should run into 1s a bit more often. It also means you have one fewer Demonic Horde and Arboreal Blight to deal with.

Eh, I wouldn't worry about it unless Erasmus really wants an Ally 1. There's a risk we lose her (shuffled by a villain escaping, and/or then we're forced to close the location by fighting the villain), but it seems like you and I don't really care for that particular card upgrade.

Good to know, thanks!

In my case, the only real thing that is throwing me is the 'spacing' (extra newlines) between each spoiler, which leads me to being able to see less of the post from a given point when scrolling. I'm waiting on more back-end fixes to the online tool and database before I get caught up in the formatting, though.

I've adjusted the spacing for the location decks so that they're more together now, thanks for the feedback.

The backend database spits out rather poor formatting so I'm maintaining a separate .txt file with the full scenario update post that I update manually alongside the online db. This lets me fix some of the clunky formatting for the actual card spoilers, like having actual periods at the end of sentences and breaking up powers into their own individual lines.

So, since I've already done all of that conversion, performing further formatting tweaks to the scenario update format is rather easy.

Wow, thanks for going through all the effort! I appreciate it, and in turn I promise not to make any more mistakes for at least this scenario. :D

Character Deck Upgrade Prefs: Spell 4 > Weapon 4 > Item 4/3 > Ally 3/2 > Blessing 4/3/2

I haven't really thought too far ahead as to what Erasmus's preferred deck upgrades might be, but Ally 1 probably not at the top of his list for the moment at least.

Might head over to Wounded Lands at some stage if it hasn't been shuffled already, but with only a D8 Charisma anyway, would need at least a blessing or two to have a chance at it anyway so perhaps not a priority for us right now? Will continue on with the maze for the moment and try and close that place off.

Also, going to just banish the Rallying Cry for now and press ahead.

Deck Handler // Looking for: Spell 3 > Spell 3 > Ally 3 > Blessing 3 > Spell B

Sorry about burning all the blessings. Wasn't really expecting to encounter two banes in a row, since there were only two left in a deck of 7 cards. :( On the other hand, I can try for the Fortune-Teller now... :)

Character Deck Upgrade Prefs: Spell 4 > Weapon 4 > Item 4/3 > Ally 3/2 > Blessing 4/3/2

No worries. Worth it to close the location, and we've always got the Herald's healing when needed.

Deck Handler // Looking for: Spell 3 > Spell 3 > Ally 3 > Blessing 3 > Spell B

Oh yeah, I completely forgot about that. I'll have to do that next turn. Thanks for reminding me. :)

Deck Handler // Searching For: TBD

I'd be happy for Amaryllis to use the Herald at the end of her turn (she'll need to redo her hand redraw, however), personally!

I won't be posting for another 3 hours or so. At work.

Deck Handler // Looking for: Spell 3 > Spell 3 > Ally 3 > Blessing 3 > Spell B

I'd have to burn a card off the Blessings Deck, since I didn't have one at the end of my turn. But it should be OK, I'm only planning on trying for the Fortune-Teller on my next turn, so not like I'm going to need (much) help. Although I guess I only have about a 17% chance of acquiring it if I don't burn the blessing I have in hand. :/

Deck Handler // Searching For: TBD

I don't mind losing cards from the blessings deck; we're going to finish this with 5-12 blessings remaining, most likely, especially since burning a blessing deck card to heal 2+ blessings is probably overall accelerating us, as long as we use them well.

But there's no rush; there's no real risk of death.

Deck Handler // Looking for: Spell 3 > Spell 3 > Ally 3 > Blessing 3 > Spell B

Btw, Erasmus, I think there's a typo in one of your powers:

Erasmus's Power wrote:
[ ] Add 1d34 to another character at your location's checks that use any skill marked on the cohort Spirit Relatives.

Not sure that's supposed to be a 1d34, since I'm the only person that I know has one of those.... :)

Character Deck Upgrade Prefs: Spell 4 > Weapon 4 > Item 4/3 > Ally 3/2 > Blessing 4/3/2

Ha, thanks for the pickup! Yes, if we start using 1d34 we'll have blessings to spare every time!

Character Deck Upgrade Prefs: Spell 4 > Weapon 4 > Item 4/3 > Ally 3/2 > Blessing 4/3/2

Just realised going through my class deck that there was a card tucked away in there that actually has Erasmus as the owner (Item B: Harrow Deck). Should have taken that as part of my starting hand but will aim to take it as an upgrade instead at first opportunity.

Have posted deck upgrade prefs now.

Deck Handler // Searching For: TBD

And that's all she wrote, nice!

  • Ukuja chooses Wisdom [X]+1 as his Skill Feat.
  • Ukuja chooses Weapon B as his Card Upgrade; With it, Ukuja replaces Light Crossbow with the excellent Wendifisa Spear.

EDIT: Two things I noticed. Firstly, I can't actually replace Light Crossbow with the spear, because I chose to banish the Javelin during the scenario, and so have an empty weapon slot. Whoops. I need to find a way to banish a different weapon so I can get the Javelin back...

Secondly, by defeating the villain and closing the location, Erasmus gets to draw a random weapon from the box with the location power, which is Cold Iron Longsword (Weapon 1). Since the precise card upgrade sometimes matters in OP (Season 4; 4-P1 and 4-P2 rewards, for example), I guess I'll take that instead. I'll still use it for the Weapon B card, however, because the weapon 1s aren't nearly as impressive. So...

  • Ukuja chooses Weapon 1 as his Card Upgrade; With it, Ukuja replaces the previously-banished Javelin with the excellent Wendifisa Spear.

Wendifisa Spear:
Traits
Spear
Melee
Piercing
Magic

Powers
For your combat check, reveal this card to use your Strength, Melee, or Survival skill + 1d12+1; you may additionally discard this card to add another 1d12. If you fail this check, discard the top card of your deck.

Character Deck Upgrade Prefs: Spell 4 > Weapon 4 > Item 4/3 > Ally 3/2 > Blessing 4/3/2

Erasmus will:

-Take Item B as deck upgrade, swapping in Harrow Deck for Magnifying Glass
-Choose Charisma [X]+1 as Skill Feat
-Choose Spell as random card from box
1-Cure,2-Clinging Venom,3-Fan of Flames,4-Psychic Reading,5-Detect Thoughts,5-Searing Flesh,6-Spirit Surge: 1d7 ⇒ 3

Not taking the Fan of Flames.

Deck Handler // Searching For: TBD

Ukuja takes a random Spell from his box.

Bloodscent, Enchanted Fang, Fiery Glare, Aspect of the Falcon, Charm Animal: 1d5 ⇒ 2 -> Enchanted Fang, by far the worst spell in the Hunter Class deck and the only Basic amongst the remaining spells.

Ugh. Pass.

Ukuja offers to take the Cohort, by the way, given that he's the only individual who natively uses Divine magic. If Erasmus desires to pick the Divine Spirit Relatives, then he may take the Cohort if he wishes.

If everyone can let me know their PFS numbers for their characters, I'm trying to get a head start on producing the chronicle sheets so that I can get them to you shortly after we finish.

Deck Handler // Looking for: Spell 3 > Spell 3 > Ally 3 > Blessing 3 > Spell B

Amaryllis takes a random Spell from the box:

1 = Arcane Armor, Confusion, Mirror Image, Frost Ray, Good Omen, Illuminate, Acid Splash, Bit of Luck, Candlelight, Clinging Venom, Cure, Electrified Web, Fire Snake, Mind Thrust, Phantom Shield, Prophesize, Remove Curse, Skitter, Steal Book, Life Drain, Locate Object, Pyrotechnic Blast, Sphere of Fire, Warding = 24 (Yeah, there's a lot of spells in Ultimate Magic.)

Random Spell: 1d24 ⇒ 8 -> Bit of Luck. It's a Divine spell, so I think I'll pass.

For the upgrade, I'll take an Ally B, swapping Chronicler for Surgeon.
For my Skill Feat, I'll take Charisma +1.

I'm not super-interested in the Cohort, either one of you can have it.

My PFS number for Amaryllis is: 1756-1013

Deck Handler // Looking for: Spell 3 > Spell 3 > Ally 3 > Blessing 3 > Spell B

Ukuja, it looks like your stat block is missing your skill feat.

Also, I've tinkered with my speadsheet a little bit, so if anyone sees anything weird or unusual, let me know. Thanks :)

Quick question about the special rule for this scenario:

During This Scenario wrote:
When a character would play an ally, roll 1d6. On a 1 or 2, she instead buries the ally and, after resolving any check she is attempting, summons and encounters the henchman Demonling.

Even if we roll a 1 or 2, do we still get the effect of playing the ally? For example, if I play an ally to add to a check, do I still get the add? Or if I play an ally to explore, do I still get the explore (after fighting the Demonling, I assume)?

No, you bury the ally instead of playing it, so you never actually play it and therefore do not get any effects of playing it.

Yeah, that's where some of the confusion was coming in; it never says instead of what. I'd assumed it was instead of playing it, but it could've been instead of what you'd normally do with the card (discard, recharge, etc), but wanted to make sure before I artificially handicapped myself. :)

As an FYI, future scenario updates will include a new "Acquired Cards" spoiler directly below the "Reference Cards" spoiler. This spoiler will include the text of every card acquired during the scenario, so you can see at-a-glance both how you're doing in terms of deck upgrades as well as letting you reference the text of cards you've acquired without having to do a lot of scrolling or jumping to previous pages.

(Reference Cards is just a list of cards I feel will be useful for you to have on hand for quick reference; the villain and henchmen, any cohorts the scenario specifies, any named cards that locations have you summon, and any named cards that other banes may have you summon. If you have any suggestions for additional cards to list here that you believe will be useful, please let me know and I'll add them in)

Hello players!
We have received the final piece of our convention support, the special convention player rewards!
First off, if you are a BRAND-NEW player to the Adventure Card Guild (as in, the character you're using in your game is your #XXXX-1001 and you have not played any other characters in organized play) you can assign the Welcome to Pathfinder Reward to that character:
Society Initiate: You may only assign this reward to the first PFSACG character that you create. At the end of a scenario, if your character is dead, you may cross this reward off; your character is no longer dead. If you have a role card, you may instead cross this reward off to gain a card feat.

In addition, EVERY player AND box runner is going to have a 10% chance after each scenario of scoring a reward. These rewards can be assigned to any of your PFSACG characters... they don't have to apply to the character you were using. If you roll a 1 or a 20 on your d20 roll at the end of a scenario, you'll get to choose from any one of the following faction rewards:

Note about faction rewards: Faction rewards are a special type of benefit tied to the factions that use their considerable influence within the Pathfinder Society to pursue their own agendas. You may apply no more than one faction reward to a given character at one time. You may use no more than one power from a faction reward per scenario. Each faction reward specifies additional requirements that, once fulfilled, grant additional uses of the reward’s power. Once you have used all of the powers from a faction reward, including the powers that have additional requirements, you may assign another faction reward to that character.

Player Reward 1: Concordance Faction Reward
[ ] [ ] Elemental Scholar (The Concordance Faction Reward): You may check a box that precedes this reward to reduce Acid, Cold, Electricity, Fire, or Poison damage dealt to you by 2.
You may use this reward up to 2 additional times if you fulfill the following requirements. When you fulfill the requirement, check the box that precedes it; when you use the reward, cross that line off.
[ ] Exceed the difficulty of a check to acquire a card that has the Acid, Cold, Electricity, Elemental, Fire, or Poison trait by 6 or more.
[ ] Exceed the difficulty of a check to defeat a monster that has the Elemental trait by 6 or more.

Player Reward 2: Dark Archive Reward
[ ] Collector of Wonders (Dark Archive Faction Reward): On your turn, you may check the box that precedes this reward to draw an item that has the Alchemical or Magic trait or a spell from the box.
You may use this reward up to 2 additional times if you fulfill the following requirements. When you fulfill the requirement, check the box that precedes it; when you use the reward, cross that line off.
[ ] Acquire a boon that has the Book trait, a boon that lists Knowledge in its check to acquire, or a spell.
[ ] Succeed at a Knowledge check to defeat a bane.

Player Reward 3: Grand Lodge Reward
[ ] [ ] Society Agent (Grand Lodge Faction Reward): You may check an unchecked box that precedes this reward to automatically succeed at your check to temporarily close a location.
You may use this reward up to 2 additional times if you fulfill the following requirements. When you fulfill the requirement, check the box that precedes it; when you use the reward, cross that line off.
[ ] Acquire an ally that lists Diplomacy in its check to acquire.
[ ] Close a location on the first turn of a scenario.

Player Reward 4: Liberty's Edge Reward
[ ] [ ] Freedom Fighter (Liberty’s Edge Faction Reward): After you roll on your Charisma check, Diplomacy check, or check attempted before you act, check a box that precedes this reward to add or subtract 1 die; take the new result.
You may use this reward up to 2 additional times if you fulfill the following requirements. When you fulfill the requirement, check the box that precedes it; when you use the reward, cross that line off.
[ ] Defeat a monster that has the Captain or Gnoll trait.
[ ] Succeed at a Charisma or Diplomacy non-combat check to defeat a villain or a henchman.

Player Reward 5: The Exchange Reward
[ ] Master of Trade (Exchange Faction Reward): After the roll on your check to acquire a weapon, an armor, or an item, check the box that precedes this reward to add 1d6; take the new result.
You may use this reward up to 2 additional times if you fulfill the following requirements. When you fulfill the requirement, check the box that precedes it; when you use the reward, cross that line off.
[ ] All of the cards offered by a trader you visit have an adventure deck number lower than that of the current scenario.
[ ] Succeed at a Craft non-combat check to acquire or defeat.

Player Reward 6: Silver Crusade Reward
[ ] [ ] Cleanser of Abominations (Silver Crusade Faction Reward): On your turn, you may check an unchecked box that precedes this reward to banish a scourge or a card that has the Curse trait.
You may use this reward up to 2 additional times if you fulfill the following requirements. When you fulfill the requirement, check the box that precedes it; when you use the reward, cross that line off.
[ ] Defeat a villain or henchman that has the Demon, Fiend, or Undead trait.
[ ] Play a card that shuffles at least 1 card from another character’s discard pile into his deck.

Player Reward 7: Sovereign Court Reward
[ ] [ ] Lawful Citizen (Sovereign Court Faction Reward): You may check an unchecked box that precedes this reward to evade a monster you encounter or to ignore a power that would move you.
You may use this reward up to 2 additional times if you fulfill the following requirements. When you fulfill the requirement, check the box that precedes it; when you use the reward, cross that line off.
[ ] Succeed at a check required to move.
[ ] Bury or banish an armor to reduce all damage dealt to you to 0.

Since you’ve already completed a scenario, go ahead and roll now for that one. Scenario 1 reward?: 1d20 ⇒ 1

Looks like you'll still need to choose which of the 7 you want, though, even if you aren't assigning it right away (I need to report on which reward was chosen).
