When Draconic codex was revealed, many of us puzzled over the exact meaning of one line of the product description. "Statistics for over 20 types of dragons, including expansions on the dragons found in Monster Core and Monster Core 2!" Specifically, how many is over 20? And what does including expansions mean? There are 16 Dragons across the 2 Monster Cores, 10 Paizo dragons from Bestiary 2, and numerous brand new dragons we've heard about, so how many dragons will we see. People have asked if all of the old Primal Dragons will be included, or if the Imperial Dragons are included. Well, thanks to the New Store Page showing the Table of Contents, we now have an answer.
Forty. 40 Four tens. And that's terrible wonderful.
So that's "expansions" to the 16 Monster Core Dragons, the 10 Bestiary II & III dragons, and 14 dragons new to 2e. Are you excited? I know I am.
Sorry for the clickbait title and set up, but I have been delighted by the opportunity to use the forty cakes meme to tell people this.

It sounds like we will get a mirage archdragon! I wonder what level those will be and if there will be different levels among all other archdragons.
My guess is that they will be different levels. Archdragon sounds like the new Wyrm/Great Wyrm categories from the previous edition. Could also be something to do with mythic though; that'd be awesome.

40 is way over 20. Love it! That's so many dragons.
I know! It's almost like two 20s! And we all know that the likelyhood of rolling two nat 20s is a 1 in 400 chance (assuming fair dice), so that's even more impressive!
Jokes aside, I'm really looking forward to this book. Always love more dragon related content.

So the Ancient Resurrection Dragon was level 17 the Resurrection Archdragon is level 23.
That is a 6 level difference.
I know that won't be the standard for all Archdragons. As the highest level is 25 and an Ancient Diabolic Dragon is level 20 so a Diabolic Archdragon would not be level 26.
So I am curious to see how Archdragons are designed.

Yes Archdragons are the new Great Wyrms. And they are not automatically mythic.
Now Daralathyxl is a Mythic Cinder Archdragon.

With so many dragon species I'm wondering what an effective breeding population is for each of these guys and where they manage to fit them on the planet with enough uncontested space and food. Maybe the ancient spellcasters with Interplanetary Teleport or Teleport (9th) are doing intrasolar or interplanar matchmaking to keep the inbreeding down.
"Grandaughter, you're old enough for your debutante trip to Triaxus now."
"Triaxus? They look down on all of us Golarion dragons as backwoods hicks. Why can't I meet a nice boy on Sarusan?"
"Sarusan! No family member of mine is going near those weirdos!"

I really appreciate them underselling the total amount so people didn't think we were getting forty new dragons. This way, the reprints feel like an exciting bonus.
But whatever, none of that matters, vizier dragon? I need to see this...
It is decked out in red, has facial hair and it's followed by a familiar parrot named Iago.
... or at least my head cannon for this dragon will be, regardless of the actual lore.

Fourteen dragons to PF2? I'm only counting thirteen (barrage, bog, executor, mocking, oath, rime, sage, stormcrown, time, vizier, vorpal, wailing, and wish). Are you including dragonet in your count? If so that's in MC2.
You missed Delight. They (and time dragons) date back to PF1 (Although they used to be called Havoc dragons), but they're making their 2e debut.

A decent number of these dragons are native to other planes, at least.

Now I'm imagining a dragon version of Bridgerton.

Calm yourself, Iago.
A dragon am I?
Perhaps you'd like to see how dragon like I can be!
