Westcrown - Vaneo vs. Vira

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

Scarab Sages

What’s the difference between a “vaneo” (as in Vaneo Drovenge) and a “vira” (as in Vira Oberigo)?

It sounds like one might be bigger than the other or one might have walls and the other doesn’t, or perhaps there are other differences. I don’t know for sure.

Can I get a little help with this?

Thank you.

Hell Comes to Westcrown and Cheliax, Empire of Devils describe vaneos as manor houses and viras as walled estates.

The Arthrugge family's vira is described in Hell Comes to Westcrown as having

Spoiler:
a caretaker's lodge with four custodians who maintain the estate's olive groves.
Vira Grulios is described has having multiple towers that dominate the skyline of Triam island.

The same work describes vaneos as single structures. Vaneo Drovenge is a three-story marble manor, and Vaneo Tilernos ("a comparatively small manor") is a single structure, if still large enough to be visible over the district's walls, so I'd presume viras are larger.

(There's also an exception that helps prove the rule:

Spoiler:
In Bastards of Erebus, Vaneo Arvanxi was a manor house that had so much money and work put into expanding and improving it that it became known as "Aberian's Folly", after its owner. Bad things then happened to it, and it no longer exists.)
