So awesome I had to share -- one of those One-in-a-Million moments at the table that will last forever:

In our campaign last night the 16th-Level PCs have briefly left their campaigns in The Abyss for a side-trek back to Golaria where they will collect the Blood of Ydersius (from 'Serpent's Skull' AP). Ydersius is the slain god of Yuan-Ti (evil snake-men) who was famously defeated with Aroden's Vorpal Sword at the end of the Azlanti VS Yuan-Ti war long, long ago. Ydersius' Vorpaled Skull is in a sunken, Underdark city (Ilmurea) deep beneath The Mwangi Expanse, in Paizo's AWESOME homage to Dwellers of the Forbidden City.

Why do the PCs want Ydersius' Blood for their campaigns in The Abyss? ....So, the Sorcerer-Succubus ruler of the Abyssal City of Broken Reach, Red Shroud (daughter of Pazuzu and the Succubus Queen, Malcanthet) is playing with Poison lately, and early research suggests that by using Yuan-Ti Blood she can make a pretty powerful Poison. Now, Red Shroud is a famous merchant-lord-like Ruler in The Abyss and she has possession of an Artifact the PCs WANT. The PCs agree to get the blood of Ydersius' skull for Red Shroud so she can use it to make a Poison that neither Baatezu nor Tanar'ri (Fiends of the Lower Planes) will be able to resist -- Poison of which they are NOT Immune. And the PCs figure that if Red Shroud is going to use the Poison-Blood-of-Ydersius to fight Tanar'ri and Baatezu and Evil Fiends of the Lower Planes, it won't be so bad -- and they get their Artifact.

So we leave The Abyss for Ilmurea.

Now, in 'Serpent's Skull' Ydersius' daughter Thelassica, a Marilith named Raviaza, some Elder Yuan-Ti, and a High Priest of Ydersius named Vyr-Azul are getting closer to Resurrect their slain god and return him to his home on the 134th Layer of The Abyss (my canon, that last part). The PCs take care of them, some escape to The Abyss, some are killed but the PCs *feel* they have Clones or what have you in The Abyss -- and now it's just the PCs and the Skull of Ydersius -- in a 2500 foot deep chasm on a rock protruding from Lava.

The PCs have to fly down 2500 feet to the lava and collect the blood from Ydersius' Skull -- when of course the Ghost of Ydersius attacks: A Colossal, Incorporeal, flying Ghost-Snake. One of the PCs dies, sadly (they can bring him back easily at 16th Level, of course), another is out of the fight for most of it -- it's a legit BBEG encounter.

Our Slayer though, DJANGO, has a +2 Vorpal Sword and, finally getting down to the rock on which the Ydersius Skull rests (the Ghost-Snake combat is mostly in the air, the hot chasm 2500 feet deep), focuses his attack not on the Ghost-Snake, but the Ydersius Skull.

Django, Vorpal Sword in hand, rolled a nat 20.
Against Ydersius' bodyless Skull.
I described the effect as though the Ghost-Head would be severed from the Ghost-Snake.
To confirm the Crit Django used a Hero Point to give himself a bonus before the roll.
Django rolled a consecutive Nat 20!

Aroden himself had to smile from Beyond.

Anyway -- I had to share. It was so awesome. Ydersius gets Vorpal'ed. Again!

Cognates

Haha nice. Sounds like the perfect ending to the combat.
