Scarab Sages

Trailer for the new Netflix show

Not what I was expecting, given the title. Still, it looks like it could be pretty cool, and I haven’t been terribly disappointed in any of the other Flanagan shows I’ve seen.

Yeah I agree. This is Mike Flanagan's love letter to not just horror, but Poe too. I love it.

Looking forward to it. But was caught off guard by the modern setting. Not saying it's a negative, but not what I was expecting.

I don't think any of us were expecting it...but the fact it is, I think highlights the fact it's less of an adaptation and more of a love letter by the greatest of the genre to Poe and the genre itself.

Started watching this last night. It’s not as clear cut supernatural so far, but still had a lot of Flanagan’s usual “creepy stuff in the background you’ve got to be paying attention to notice”.

The story is….interesting. Great acting. There’s very little redeeming about any of the characters so far, except Dupin and Fredrick’s daughter.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I binged the first four episodes, and am enjoying it so far.

Finished the series last night. It as good as some of Flanagan’s other stuff, but it was a solid story with great acting. I love how Flanagan doesn’t ever actually say what Carla Gugino‘s character actually is, just that it’s a very ancient being.

Anyway, other than some typical Hollywood tripe, the show was well worth the time to watch. I look forward to seeing what Flanagan comes up with next.

It was enjoyable. Nothing I'll watch again.

That sounds about right. Not like his Hill House show, which I’ve watched twice, and will probably watch again soon.

I'd watch this again. But then again I'm a fan of Poe more than Mike in some ways.

This is the first Flanagan show I haven't been that into. It was a struggle to get though, despite liking his other work, and Poe, and the cast. Overall just was very slow paced, which I didn't feel about anything else of his I've seen.
