So as we know since the first AP, messages can be sent cross-planet and cross-galaxy by sending communications through the drift (i believe there's been inconsistent statements as to whether said communications take the same number of days, or the number of days but by hours instead; i believe it's by hours since a radio signal can travel faster than a starship). However, one thing I'm uncertain about is: Can messages be sent within and received within the drift, or do they only arrive once you exit the drift? There's a few times in one AP where a message only pops in when you exit the drift, and I'm not sure if that's coincidence or if that's how the message relay system works.

I seem to recall having real-time communications with the SFS while we were departing some distant world in one of the season 1 adventures we played (would have been 3rd level or less), so I don't think there is any official consistency here...

Drift crisis added some more context ... after the crisis occurs, they have to build drones (some with tier 5 drift engines) to sustain communication with remote systems. This implies there is no non-drift to drift communications (in either direction) ... instead it perhaps used to rely on the drift beacons but (after the crisis) relies on drones for monthly updates (since during crisis all drift travel takes 10d6 days, averaging 30 days).

It's not on AoN, but pg 430 of the SF1 Core Rulebook states that the time for a message to get through the Drift is the same as the travel time.
So if the message can get through via Drift Lanes or are sent to Absalom Station, it takes just days, unless strong Drift Engines are used.
There was a SF1 ritual that cut the time in hours, but also has a 25 word limit (and is high level for SF1).
