Marooned on a barren isle...
The island of the mighty Sea King, Viledel, was sacked by a pirate army 60 years ago.
Its destruction was so complete that even the location of the island was lost and
forgotten. Despite the stories and rumors of immense treasures still hidden in the ruined stronghold, no one ever found the Sea King's island again.
Until now.
Through a cruel twist of fate, a small band of unwilling adventurers is kidnapped and then washed ashore on a small, barren island, where they discover what remains of Viledel's settlement. But they aren't alone; marauding orcs and vile goblins have found their way to the island, too, and are frantically searching for the lost hoard.
It's a race against time and monsters in this desperate treasure hunt, where the real reward, the greatest treasure, may simply be to survive!
*****
Treasure Hunt is going to be different from other adventures in a number of ways, the most important being that it was originally written for 0-Level AD&D.
If there's enough interest, I am planning on running this with NPC character classes (Adept, Aristocrat, Commoner, and Expert) with the goal of ending the adventure with everyone earning their first level in one of the CORE classes.
What the players choose to have their characters do and how successful they are at those tasks will help decide what classes they will be eligible to become when they've earned enough experience...regardless of which NPC class they start with.
If you already have an idea of where your character's headed, stick with what they know. However, if you want to end up as a spellcaster, and you're not an adept, then you'll have to attempt to use magic items and (possibly) even try to cast spells. Warrior type? Better get some melee or ranged combat in. Sneaking or picking locks? You scoundrel, you. You get the idea. Every character will have the chance to at least try ANY skill they wish...and we'll see how well it works out for you.
Some technical stuff:
15 pt build
Characters will keep any skills or abilities they have as NPCs when they reach 1st level as bonuses, even if they choose classes different than what they started out with.
Each NPC character will start with 1 Trait and 1 Background skill that will need to be representative of their backstory.
So, anybody interested in starting out at the bottom of the barrel? Less than first level...a lowly NPC?
Just an interest check for now...

The game would be run in Pathfinder 1st edition, set in Golarian with all that entails, though the isle could technically work in most settings.
My hope, if there's interest, is to continue into more adventures with the characters who begin their journey here.
As for the "classes", remember that the original module has NO classes. I'm offering the NPC classes more for roleplaying value and fun than necessity. Everyone who survives will end up in an actual CORE class by the time this adventure is done. This is definitely not a min/max setting.

Love it. I did something similar for the first PBP game I ran where players started with NPC classes then leveled up to heroic classes.
I see you didn't mention warrior in the list of NPC classes. Is that intentional or was it simply not an exhaustive list? I admit warrior is by far the most martial of the NPC classes.

Ok cool! I have plenty of interest and detail questions (like Ythiel's equipment question) but I can wait until you decide it's time for a legit recruitment. I don't want to barrage you with Qs for just an interest check XD.
Oops! Sorry if I ask too many questions. The hype is real :')
Forget about the equipment thing if you haven't got all the details figured out yet, GM! Just consider me interested in the game.

Wasn't trying to obliquely call you out! Just saying that I was interested and had a bunch of questions I'm holding in reserve. Probably too many questions, really. XD

I know, don't worry! :)

Currently there is interest for this game from 11 people.
1. I would pick characters from those who have already posted in this thread first before looking elsewhere. To that end, recruiting will be done in this thread. I won't be starting a new one.
2. I plan on taking 5 or 6 characters. Would love to take everyone, but 11 would be insane. LOL. And I dont have the bandwidth to run two tables.
Sorry.

DeJoker |

Hmm I went back to the top of the thread and I only find 10 players
1) friendly sauce
2) Chyrone
3) Ythiel
4) caster4life
5) Ridge
6) DeJoker
7) Cuchulainn
8) Taldo the Tanner
9) Beltin Benedict
10) fatmanspencer
Who did I miss? Also do let me know if I am accepted and I will get to work on the character.

I think I counted myself. LOL
Sounds fun, Imaginary Crayons. Should we start firing away with the questions?
Sure. Fire away, though I probably won't have time to post official recruiting details until Monday at the earliest. Sunday is Mother's day.

Ok fun. Here is an enthusiastically (or gratuitously) long list of questions that you can answer whenever:
1. What posting rate would you like for the game to proceed at?
2. How do you plan to handle maps? Theater of the mind, google slides, roll20, etc?
3. Are you ok with all Paizo materials for races, feats, spells, etc? Alternatively, maybe you want races to fall within a certain limits of power (say less than 15 race points) or theme (say Core races+orcs or whatever)? Or maybe you hate feats from certain sourcebooks or have specific ban lists?
4. Max of the hit die at level 1 is normal but idk for a low power, NPC game.
5. Do you have a specific formatting you want for a character sheet or other aspects of a submission?
6. What do you want in terms of backstory? Length? Some kind of tie-ins to being an NPC on a merchant vessel or something? Are there some specific backstory questions you want us to answer?
7. When will recruitment close?

Taldo the Tanner |
Caster4life covered the crunchy questions, let's talk a little about fluff. You said our characters were kidnapped. Can we get a little more information on that?
What circumstances led to their kidnapping?
Where were the kidnapped from?
Are they all from the same place or were they kidnapped from different places and have been held for different periods of time.
Would they know each other?
What circumstances led to their being shipwrecked?
You said no 'starting gear' would the items they normally carry on their person be near in the wreckage?
Would any of their captors be marooned with them?
Edit: I may have missed this question, but if so, I'm sorry.

Did you intentionally leave the NPC character class 'warrior' out?

Eventually, yes. Absolutely can't wait to run it.
However, there's going to be a delay in launching it, as some stuff has come up in real life that is currently taking priority. But I will get to it. Might be a month or so, but it will run.
All I care is that you take care of yourself. Come to us afterwards

This. Your own takes priority.

Been there, know how it is! RL comes first as the others have already said. So good luck and on your own time.
As for what to play, I'm actually thinking of playing a wastrel Aristocrat forced to do things on his or her own for the first time. The idea of zero equipment, and zero wealth for one used to a very privileged life amuses me.
But if someone else is hoping for the aristocrat, I could easily come up with another
