I previously read this thread but I'm still confused about this.
If I'm playing a Rogue and I take a Sorcerer Dedication at level 2 and then Basic Sorcerer Spellcasting at level 4 does this mean that at character level 4 my cantrips are scalled to level 2 (my character level / 2) or are my cantrips still at level 1 (my highest level spell slot)?

The rule text for the Cantrip Trait itself doesn't mention anything about highest spell slot level.
Looking at Wizard class currently, it adds the word 'usually' to the errata text that was quoted in that previous thread. That thread was from 2020, and we know that there have been stealth errata since then. Stealth errata being minor changes to the rules text that don't end up being listed explicitly in the errata documents in the FAQ.
A cantrip is automatically heightened to half your level rounded up—this is usually equal to the highest level of wizard spell slot you have.
And Sorcerer does the same thing - adding that word 'usually'.
So it is fairly clear that the cantrips are always heightened fully to half level rounded up. The mention of highest level of spell slots that is done in each class description is intended as an example to newer players. They can just look up the cantrip level on the spell slot table rather than doing math. Which is a shortcut that works for primary class spellcasters. Though that trick doesn't work for cantrips gained from an ancestry feat or through an archetype.

"For a typical spellcaster, this means its level is equal to the highest level of spell slot you have."
This does not mean you need spell slots to heighten cantrips, nor does it mean they are only the level of your highest slot. It means it scales at the same rate that a typical caster would gain spells, i.e. at every odd level.
