Examples of using ability modifiers for creatures

Pathfinder Beginner Box

I see the creature stats have ability modifiers. But what are some examples of what I might use a creature's ability modifiers for?

Example: a creature gets knocked into a pit and needs to try to climb out. That creature does not have an Athletics score listed. The creature must then roll with only its STR score to make its check to Climb.

Example: a creature has an Innate Cantrip listed. Let's say Produce Flame cast at level 1 as an example. The damage listed for level 1 Produce Flame is 1d4+spellcasting modifier, and the spellcasting modifier for innate spells is CHA. We then need the monster's CHA mod to resolve the damage of the Cantrip.

Thank you.
