Can a trap be a significant enemy?

In short, does a significant enemy have to be a creature, or could be be a trap?

The way it is written in the rules mentions creatures with a low CR as not being a significant enemy - but there are other cases that might be a threat (high CR traps) that people might want to use abilities gated by this criteria.

Thoughts?

If you are in an encounter (trap, hazard, skill check, etc.) that gives xp, it is a significant encounter and abilities that function off that should work.

Significant enemy is slightly different, but I would err on the side of allowing a character's abilities to work. At least as long as it isn't something asinine. Especially if it's the kind of trap than can be affected by an attack roll.

Agree. The point of significant enemy restrictions is to avoid spamming certain beneficial abilities against scrubs. If the trap is tough and you're not using an exploit, like trying to get HP/stamina back in "combat" against a static foe, I'd allow it.
