I'm pretty woke and was on board with a lot of the changes prior, but this does feel like an overcorrection. An overly sensitive sensitivity reader, especially for the changed tables in the DMG.
But it's probably a sign of what 6e will look like, as WotC targets this new, growing audience of young players and softens the game from a risque PG-13 bordering on R to a soft PG.

It's very interesting to see folks running around complaining about extreme changes to the game when the changes indicated are not on the scale they are complaining about.
Removal of alignment from races in 5e is something that has been long past overdue, it's good to see them finally take a step in that direction.
Altering some of the horrible names for races/backgrounds is also not a bad thing.
And adding in some more lore to help GMs that are a bit more dependent on text versus being able to adapt on the fly to the changes is helpful, too.

Today is a good day to... halp |

Y'knows, I had this wee tinfoil-hat [well, more like a tin-foil hat mimic that somehow eats the brain whilst keepin' the skull intact... man, those cloned brain-replacements are expensive!] theory about all of this...
It has to do with the latest young-adult D&D novel offering, Dungeons & Dragons: Dungeon Academy: No Humans Allowed!
See, it has to do with this special academy and it only accepts just monsters as students and faculty, I'm guessin'.
But that's okay though, humans do get some representation in this book... well, sorta...
So it's really all just to get things in line for the latest iteration of 5e D&D cross-marketing for the younger demographics. ;)
