Gael García Bernal to Star in Marvel’s Werewolf-Focused Disney+ Halloween Special

I hope it’s Jack Russell, or that the story at least has more Jack Russell elements. I bought one issue of the newer version, and thought it was….disappointing.

I’d prefer taking the story from the four issue series they did a few years ago. Great horror comic. That this will probably be in Disney+ tells me that might not happen. I guess we’ll see.

As I am a huge Werewolf The Apocalypse fan, I LOOOOOVED the new one.

I'm down for a Werewolf by Night series/special. But I also accept it will be VERY VERY NICHE

A-zombie,

This one is more about that one four issues you were talking about since Gael is portraying Jake Gomez, (at least that's how it seems to me.)

2022 has some interesting shows for Disney+

Liberty's Edge RPG Superstar 2008 Top 32, 2011 Top 16

Trailer released at D23 today. Love the 70s creature feature vibe, as well as the homage to the 70s "TV Special Presentation" intro.

Wrong trailer.

Here’s the correct one.

I have to admit….this might have potential. And according to IMDb they will have Jack Russell. So that’s a step in the right direction.

Oh man I kind of love the look of this. When I was a kid I always stayed up late on Friday nights to watch the classic Black and White horror films on CBC and this takes me right back there.

I love that they are using the steaming stuff to experiment with

Scarab Sages

Yeah, when I was younger it was either AMC or TCM who used to show old horror movies on Friday nights. My dad and I would watch them.

Scarab Sages

I didn’t realize it before, but there’s a quick shot of Man-Thing head and shoulders. And I think it’s his arm they show grabbing someone as well.

I'm just wondering how Else will do in this. She's a favorite.

Yeah, this I'll watch. Man-Thing is in this! :)

COOL

Scarab Sages

Well, that was pretty damned cool. Bordering on awesome. As of now, I think it’s the second best thing they’ve put out since Endgame - right behind Spider-Man: No Way Home.

The shorter, special presentation format worked well. I think it forced them to keep the script tight. Yet they still managed to work in some great characterization, especially on Elsa and Jack.

Speaking of, I don’t usually like Elsa when she shows up in the comics - she always comes across to me kind of an a-hole. In this, however, I really liked her. Maybe the live action is all the difference.

Jack was great. His relationships with the other two main characters was cool.

And now I can see there were maybe two reasons to go black & white: (a) to get that awesome, classic monster movie atmosphere, (b) to keep the rating down with all the blood spatter.

My only real problem was I wish we’d gotten more of the werewolf. Still, what we did get was pretty great. Loved the practical effects.

Overall, I highly recommend this.

Scarab Sages

I feel I should clarify….

Of all the MCU stuff I’ve seen since Endgame (which ends at Multiverse of Madness and Moon Knight) I think it’s the second best thing they’ve put out - right behind Spider-Man: No Way Home.

If this creative team is put on more projects it could possibly improve things.

All I know is when you have Man-Thing in a show, things get better.

Scarab Sages

Since this was billed as a “Halloween Special”, I kept wondering why they weren’t releasing it close to Halloween. I think I have my answer.

The last two nights have been a full moon.

I think it's more they want to have something to run against Hulu's Hellraiser 'light"

Don't they own Hulu?

I don't believe so... or if they do, Disney certainly hasn't do much to promote their stuff on it...

Did a quick google, apparently Disney owns two thirds of it and there is a plan to get the remaining third from Comcast sometime next year.

Ah. Well I guess when that happens, it might disappear into Disney+

Disney's growing monopoly aside

This was a really fun little special. Was great seeing the Man-Thing, and I just loved the whole classic monster movie look of the it. right down to the music and the burn marks on the "film"

The shot that really stands out to me

Spoiler:
was the hallway scene as the werewolf is killing guards and the steel door is slowly coming down while the camera keeps closing in while getting splattered with blood. creating this growing sense of claustrophobia and being trapped with the beast. fantastic work

Man-Thing rules.

Man-Thing, like Manwich, makes it better.

I would agree that we could've used more time with the titular werewolf, but I also enjoyed this... special? IDK what else to call it... mini-film, show, spectacle?

I only read a few of the very old comics from the 70's when they were a quarter at the local shop, so I didn't know there was a whole "wolfpack" around the character involving the Bloodstone family and such. Now that I've seen the show and learned some of the lore online, I kind of want to to find some of the "supernatural" stuff in the comics.

I think if Sony gets to do another crossover though, I think the Morbinator should get thrown against Jack and the team.

In the run up to the Moon Knight series, they reprinted the first three volumes of the Moon Knight Epic Collection (and have since put out volume 4). I was kind of hoping to see similar treatment for Werewolf by Night, but no such luck.

There are some collected volumes of Werewolf by Night, but they seem either out of print, just hard to come by, or somewhat expensive. I’m hoping that changes soon, and that they start putting out more (like Tomb of Dracula).

They do have at least two volumes of Morbius. Those are pretty cool.

I think i missed this because my reaction to being stuck in the room with a werewolf is "PUPPY!" readies belly rub

Not sure I agree with that part (I hate Manwich) but yes.
