Interest check: Ptolus (Path1e or D&D 5e)

Recruitment

Haven't decided which is which. Yet.

This is a general interest check in Ptolus yet again. I just haven't decided on the system. The pdfs for both 5e and the Cypher System is due out this month, and I already paid for my copy. So it will come when it will come.

Ptolus may get me to run a 5e game. My first, even though I don't like some parts of how it runs. Many people say it's easier than Path1e, yet you can customize better with Path1e.

Story. I've decided that roleplaying people who investigate murders is a bad thing. So I'm going for classic swords and sorcery (Conan would be at home in Ptolus). Ptolus is a late medieval city, not quite Renaissance, but there are Renaissance elements (guns, for example, exists). I may do something with Chaositech this time around, or maybe not. Depends on what feelers I put out there.

Races. With 5e you get dragonborn (most likely Monte Cook will mention them in the 5e release). With Path1e you get a choice of many other races from the ARG. Plus the Ptolus book mentions some interesting races of it's own. Monte was thorough in stating that his city was a fantasy city.

What I hope I'm Running. I'd like to run a Ptolus Game with two parties, one party Path1e, the other party D&D 5e. But the two parties actions can affect one another. Impossible, as it seems. But it ultimately depends on how many people are serious for swords and sorcery action by two different games.

Rule 0. There's Monte's city -- which is covered extensively in Ptolus. And then there is mine. My Ptolus can be different from what Monte said.

This is an interest check.
I'm just checking who would be interested in playing in Ptolus. This is a Swords and Sorcery campaign. Those interested in playing in a 5e campaign will have to wait until Ptolus 5e is released.

Character. You may submit characters with a Swords and Sorcery background. Read Ptolus 3e and see what sparks. You can come from outside the city, or from within. Clerics will find that there are many gods to choose from -- or they can make up one of their own.

Path1e Characters should choose their classes from the Core Pathfinder book. This is because Ptolus 3e mentions only the core classes. Although I admit that there are a lot of potential for the other classes as well (gunslinger is one class I can think of, right off the bat that fits in Ptolus). Just remember, the fighter is the class that is the most customizable (thanks to the feats it gets). And the archetypes allow for more customization.

Note: And I'm looking for well-rounded characters, not one trick ponies. And I'm looking for variations. One rogue has to be different from another rogue. One ranger is different from another ranger, and so on. Wizards should customize their spells (this is mentioned in the Ptolus book too). Plus everyone should use the profession skill to choose a profession suited to their character. Even if one wizard specializes in professional wine tasting (see Ptolus, page 35 for a list of possible professions).

This means we will use the background skills rule.

I'd be interested in a 1E version. I've had some fun in Ptolus in the past.

1e Pathfinder for me!

I'd definitely be in for the 5E version when released. I have pre-ordered as well.

Dark Archive

Ditto on 5E!

Hmm, so far neck and neck.

PF1E

I’d be down for either.

I vote for PFe1.

Neat. It looks like I can do two games here, but I'm not sure yet.

I would go with pathfinder 1e

I would be interested in a Pathfinder version as well.

Yeah, PF1 sounds good to me.

I see. A lot of people want PF1.

Well... it is a Pathfinder forum...

True.

Perhaps when Ptolus 5e comes out there would be more interest. Who knows?

Maybe you could go ahead and start the Pathfinder group... get it going, then recruit separately for the 5E group, and start them maybe a week later. I'm pretty confident if you recruit for a 5E Ptolus game alone you'll find enough players for a second group. The 5E players on here are not a big group, but pretty active... and I be you'll find a couple ready to dip their toe in when ready to go.

You're right. I'll recruit for the PF1e game first.
