What do Thrusters Actually Do?

Rules Questions

I couldn't find any more information on the issue highlighted in the post here: https://paizo.com/threads/rzs42r11?Error-in-Tier-2-Pegasus-SF-Society-Stars hip

Basically when you add up the build point values of the Starship examples (or at least the ones I have tried) you only get the correct number of Build Points if you assume they have no Thrusters. However the examples do have a speed so where does that speed come from?

So in the example of the Starfinder Society Pegasus if I 'add' M10 Thrusters I am now at 80 build points but the stats of the ship (i.e. Speed and Turn) are exactly the same as they were before. Am I missing something?

What you're probably missing is a long, long history of society pregens having errors. They aren't good examples.

Pre-generated ships are very likely to have incorrect build points for their tiers. Some just have more BP than their tiers allow. Others were finalized before the errata to ship module costs. Some are affected by both.

Also, as long as the BP differential doesn't bump them up or down a tier, no one is likely to care very much.

Ah OK. Thanks for the clarifications everyone. I thought I was missing some secret rule somewhere :)
