I feel a just woke up from deep slumber and suddenly understood the whole thing with organized play. I am also still into PF 1st edition. Apart from some old factions having been retired, are the faction journal cards (from season 10 that I have downloaded) different now compared to how they were for the earlier seasons? Another question: Can I just start GM:ing any adventure within the same season, no matter what fractions the players charachters belong to, and play until they have reached maximum level or is there any order they should be played (apart from the levels of the adventure)?

You can play any scenario from any season as long as it’s not a retired scenario (with a few exceptions called out in the scenarios themselves). You can complete the season 10 faction card regardless of what season the scenario is from, and that’s the only faction card you should use at this point (unless you have an old character that started one of the earlier faction cards when it was the most current). There are some story reasons why you might want to play some sets of scenarios in order, but it’s generally not required that you do so. So find a scenario you haven’t played and have fun!
Welcome to organized play!

Yes, but the most recent (season 10) cards are the only ones that can be assigned to a character at this point.

There is no requirement to only play adventures from one season, you can mix and match as you want.

The only relevance that factions have is to which adventures to play is that starting in Season 5 there are some scenarios that have special boons a character might be able to earn if they are a member of a faction featured in that scenario. It is not required that they be members of that faction; they just can't get the boon at all if they aren't.

Starting in Season 4, the seasons had a story that would play out over the course of a season. However the stories played out over chronological release, not necessarily character level. (In other words the events of scenario 7-21, a Tier 1-5 adventure, might have a bearing on the backstory of 7-26, a Tier 7-11 adventure. Or a 7-11 scenario might lead to a Tier 1-5 picking up the pieces afterwards.) The assumption was that the people who were really into the story would have multiple characters of multiple levels and play the season as it was released, not with the same character the whole time.
Having said that, it's not really that big of a deal. I wouldn't worry about it and just play scenarios of levels appropriate for your players. Of course if there is a Part 1, I would follow it up with Part 2 (3, etc.) before moving to another.

I started playing pathfinder in fall of 2017 when PFS was already mature. We would never play scenarios in any order let alone in the same season back to back. And it was always had to get a feel for the overall world.
Last year when everything turned virtual, my local VA decided to start going though season 8 in order because it was his favorite story arc. We are currently though #8-12 and I am really enjoying the story connections. Our local group has a range of character to fit all of the different tiers so that has helped too.So, you can play them in any order you want; it is fun to run them in a logical order, either by season of topic (like those about Blakros Museum).

Your VA has done a great job bringing the Lincoln lodge up with a dedicated player and GM base.
