Four Flavors of Heaven
Ongoing Campaign and Recruitment: Here!
Setting Guide

"Every eighty-eight years, the Celestial Court graces Yuanzi with their presence. As their Garden on the mortal realm, it gives them great joy to visit their handiwork and mingle with those who reside there.

During their visit, they challenge all willing mortals with a contest of wit, skill, and courage. Winners are granted a most auspicious gift; a touch of divinity. This blessing grants longevity, strength, and wisdom and when the gift-bearer is ready, it also grants them a place at the Celestial Court's side as their champion.

For nigh eighty-eight years, Old Soeji has bemoaned losing the previous competition. Now in his early hundreds, he's convened his friends, family, and anyone he knows who he thinks might even be remotely interested in succeeding where he failed so many years ago. Whatever the Court's challenge, Soeji is ready to put his heart and soul into making sure he is a part of the winning team.

Amid the raucous celebration that accompanies the challenge, the players will face challenges both mundane and supernatural, make friends and foes, and discover what belief truly guides their heart.

Concept
In Four Flavors of Heaven, the PCs will journey across the micro-setting of Yuanzi. As the Celestial Court's Garden, the world draws heavy inspiration from Asian mythology, geography, and themes.

As friends, family, pupils, or simply acquaintances of Old Soeji, the PCs will aim to succeed where their sponsor failed 88 years ago. They will travel the breadth and length of Yuanzi to complete the task put before them.

For more details, you can check out the Setting Guide and read up on the adventures so far. It's been going for a slow pace for about a year, but there's great chemistry and we're looking to shore up our current party with one to two additional members. Currently we have a Ninja, Inquisitor, and an Oracle/Sorcerer, so we're looking for classes that can complement these characters.

Expectations

  • Four Flavors of Heaven is a module-length homebrew adventure designed to take characters from 1st to 6th level. The party is currently at 2nd level, almost 3rd.
  • I expect players to be able to post at least once a day at minimum.
  • I will be selecting no more than two additional characters for this adventure. I will try and pick a balanced party.

    Character Building
Please submit a character that follows the following conditions:

  • 3rd level
  • 20 Point Buy
  • Races: Human, Elf, Dwarf, Half-Elf, Halfling, Gnome, Tengu, Gillmen, Kitsune, Nagaji, Vanara.
  • Classes: All Base, Alternate, Hybrid, and Kineticist. Unchained Classes can be used, and must be used in the case of the Summoner.
  • Alignment: Any non-evil.
  • Wealth: Average wealth for 3rd level (3,000 gp). The players have not received much magical gear at this time but will be earning some soon.
  • Permitted Material: Official Paizo only, no 3PP. If using something from a splat-book, please include the link to d20pfsrd for ease of reference.
  • Domain Spellcasters: You may pick any two domains.

Hey Timespiraled, still a very interesting setting! I will read a little more of the game thread and see if I can put together a full BAB character that may fit well with the party.

I was reading in the discussion thread that the present characters do not have a lot of magic items. Would you consider the Automatic Bonus progression rules to supplement the lack of magical items instead of treasure ex machina?

    Sovereign Court

    Very Beautiful setting.
An Immortal cultivator Like setting and character encouragement as well.

I'd like to play this but I doubt I can as I may have reached max games.
I'd like to read and follow the story though.

I have considered it, but given we're already partway through I'm going to go with a short shopping trip. Maybe for the next run through xD

Full BAB is likely to fit perfectly, let me know what you got when you're done!

No worries! Feel free to read through the Gameplay section and the Setting guide. I hope you enjoy it!

Timespiraled, I've read through the game thread, very interesting. Would the Yokai Hunter archetype 'Favored Yokai' apply to the creatures found in the 'spirit realm'?

Absolutely! It'd be more than appropriate for the adventure. Outsider and magical beast in particular would be among the more commonly found "spirit realm creatures."

Is this recruiting still open? Thoughts on a Vanara Shaman?

I'll need to do some more reading but so far it looks very interesting!

Absolutely still is! Looking for 1-2 replacements, and you'd be #2. Feel free to ask questions in our Discussion tab if you want to chat with the other players or browse the Setting Guide!

Timespiraled, this is RH's Tengu Ranger Taicho Blackfeather, The crunch is finished except for a few more purchases. He is double archetyped: Tokai hunter and Trapper, so he has disable device for when Shiro is not with us. Are there Ioun stones in this world? Asking so to have an easy light. (Ioun Torch)

The back story, so far, is Taicho is a part of the Blackfeather clan who live in the deep woods of the Gangdao Forest. They see themselves as guardians of the shrines and hunters of any evil Yokai. The tribe owes a debt to Old Soeji and the Yuanzi clan. Not sure what that would be yet.

Is it possible that when they learned the sea food was ruined by magic, that Soeji sent for help from his forest dwelling friends?

Ioun stones are a fine fit with the adventure and that's a perfectly solid lead to have you join up with the crew in Shuishang as they return from their second foray into the sea caves.

Let me just get through Taicho's crunch, but the character sounds great!

There was another DM running a short Chinese-inspired adventure, in which I originally played this character; if you're looking for a cleric, I can tweak this to fit your current guides and I'd be happy to drop in!

Bō is an entertaining, happy-go-lucky priest who happens to worship a similarly jolly, happy-go-lucky god of disasters. Bō dedicates himself to helping communities with their spiritual problems, hunting down demons and evil spirits, and frequently cleaning up after his own accidents.

I'll work on getting this character altered to the standards of your campaign!

While I wish I could have a full three new players, I think sticking to no more than 2 would be the best.

Considering RH and AGM dotted in first, I'd prefer to give them dibs on the adventure first. If either of them don't end up taking the slots, I'd be happy to tag you in.

As a Cleric, you might have a bit of overlap with our Oracle and Inquisitor, but I'd be happy to work it out together.

No problem! I only just saw this recruitment and didn't realize you were going to just take the first two people to drop in!

If you prefer, I have a monk that I could use instead, though the point may be moot.

I'll get my character sheet put up tomorrow and post with that alias then. I'm on a tablet tonight and some functions are much harder than with my computer.

Was planning on being from Shuishang, so meeting the party there sounds great.

    I totally get it!

Being from Shuishang definitely makes things easier, yeah.
