Why striking spell is the most PF2 mechanic ever designed, and how I've come to love it.

It worked for me if I toss away playing it like a caster or a magus and play it like a martial with free temp hp/healing by throwing away an action to cast message.

Its disheartening to see that the most effective way to use one synthesis is to throw away everything the class kit gives you except that synthesis's bonus.

That is fair, I was just suggesting that there are ways you could test out having 1 action offensive spells if you wanted to see what the class mechanics felt like with it.

Hmmm... I don't really think I have to: I'm satisfied with the synthesis so it's down to the Striking Spell mechanic and I've played around enough to get a feel for it. I can't see how 1 action spells would improve the experience for me on it's own. One action spells improve flexibility for actions outside Striking Spell/Spell/Strike but it doesn't improve the actual feel of Striking Spell's mechanics.

Well, I don't mind it SO much as that means it's not a hard fix to get it up and running: if they make some 1 action Magus cantrips, it's all gravy to me and it'd make it feel more like a magus. And it wouldn't have to be anything exciting: like Int [insert elemental damage] damage is fine to start to trigger vulnerabilities and such for a start.

That is my experience and the existing striking spell mechanic contributed a lot to the fun I had, in a way that felt unique to this class and very Pathfinder Second Edition. I really hope we end up with a magus that preserves those feelings of uniqueness and fitting squarely in with PF2.

I’m also quitting this thread because I think that all has been said on both sides.

I could be fine with the crit rider and action economy.

Although I’m really for doing away with the two rolls, I could live with a moderate accuracy boost or a way to replace the spell attack with a second weapon attack that only the Magus had. MCDs could get the current striking spell

We shouted "Hey!",
and "That's not fair!"

"Oh no you don't!"
and "How could you dare?!"

But then in the end,
We all were guilty

Ourselves to blame,
Our hands were filthy

In the mud our feet quite froze,
We looked upon our hated foes

And saw the mud on them just the same,
And realized it's just a game

And then we smile, and say "Alright"
"How 'bout we call it for tonight?"
