Magus spell Help

Advice

Two Questions

1: Well Being Human. Is there any way my Magus can get Demisonal Door as 3rd level Spell?

2: can I get some help with picking out spells to represent a high speed character like I know bladed dash and Haste but I am not sure what else

Summoner is the only class that gets it as a Level 3 spell so probably not

Dang. Oh well. thanks.

If you're going for a concept, the blade adept arcanist can use dimensional slide and be "ok" with a sword.

Storm step; it's a 3rd level close range teleport with a cute side effect.

Edit: you know what? A wand of dimension door with the wand wielder magus arcana works fine with spell combat. It costs a huge amount (21K) but you should be able to make those 50 charges last the 2 levels until you get the spell yourself.

That sounds like a good idea.

With 16 INT

I have

12 1ST Level Spells Know
6 2nd Level known
And 2 3rd level spells known
At 8th level right?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Add in expeditious retreat and Aldori Alacrity for some nice low level movement spells.

edit* At 8th level with a 16 int you could cast 5 1st level spells, 5 2nd level spells and 3 3rd level spells.

As a prepared caster you don't have a limit to the amount of spells you know.

The WBL of an 8th level character is 33k. Spending over 60% of your WBL on a wand seems excessive.

A Magus can use a Wand of Dimension Door even at Level 1.

If you take Improved Familiar at Level7, a Ratling Familiar can DimDoor you.

True I forgot but I Normally just chose a hand FULL of spells that reflect my character as I can't always remember each single spell

And there is also the Teleportation Mastery Feat. If you multiclass a lot, you could get that by level 4, and you would need any of a variety of magic items.

And again, the fastest way to get something like Dimension Door is to dip a level in Arcanist or Melkiador, you said Blade Adept? and take the Dimensional Slide Arcane Exploit. That isn't quite Dimension Door, in one way it's better, but it might do, and it's very easy to get.

I personally am a fan of Force Hook Charge as it helps you get into fights and still make a full round of attacks. The fact it provokes AoO isn't ideal but I still found myself using this spell fairly frequently with my most recent Magus.

BLADED BRUSH

Same thing but no AoO and it's a spell level lower. It's better 99% of the time.

Derp, I meant BLADED DASH (now with a working link)

So can I cast this move up to 30 Make Single Attack as part of this Spell and then make a full Attack?

Bladed Dash will be a part of the full attack so you

Cast the spell to move 30ft and make an attack
Make another attack as part of spell combat
make the rest of your attacks as part of full attack action *and* step back with a 5ft step so the enemy needs to follow you if they want to strike back.

Ah so if I count right at 8th level that's 4 Attacks Total right?

Three. One from the spell, two from +6/+1 BAB. Spell combat gives you a full attack, not a full attack + one. OK, it'd be four attacks if you were hasted.

Ok still Cool. Sorry it's hard to keep track of some times

You may have been thinking about the free attack the magus gets if you cast a touch spell, but Bladed Dash isn't a touch spell, it's just a spell that happens to give you an attack.

There is one option for cheap teleportation using 3rd level spell slots:

The prestige class, Esoteric Knight.

You can get access to an ability that allows you to sacrifice 3rd level spell slots to teleport.

If you want to get into the class through magus, then you should take the "Mindblade" archetype.

That said, there might be other options for getting into the archetype. Anyone have any ideas?

Sovereign Court

Pay a Cleric/Summoner of Asmodeus to gift you the spells with Spellcasting Contract? You would have to be 9 HD though to get Dim Door as a 3rd, though you could get two 2nd level spells as well. It would just be 1/day though if you choose the refreshing option. *and the fine print of the contract of course...

Alternatively, Jester's Jaunt if you weren't looking for Dim Door specifically. Limited classes, though not an 'early access' loophole with Summoner. And it doesn't end your turn like Dim Door does.

Esoteric Knight requires +5 BAB, and then 2 levels of it, so with pure Magus/EsKn you are looking at level 9th anyway.
